"What is happening!" I looked at the girl's face, which had regained its features, feeling somewhat puzzled. Logically, since Wang Xinyu's soul had been extinguished, this girl should have died.
The girl opened her eyes and turned to look at me. I noticed that her eyes were hollow, as if there were no eyeballs inside, giving her an exceptionally eerie appearance.
"Die!" the girl shouted, extending her hands towards my neck and forcefully pressing my head against her chest.
"What the hell, why does this feel so wrong!" My head was pressed against the girl's chest, and the sensation on my face was not what I expected. It should have felt soft, but instead, I felt that her body was very hard, unlike that of a living person.
"This can't be a Paper Man!" I reached out with my left hand and touched the girl's arm, discovering that it felt more like paper, giving me the illusion that if I squeezed too hard, it would break.
"Die!" The girl's head swayed as her long hair seemed to come alive, wrapping around my head tightly and preventing me from breathing.
I felt a wave of dizziness wash over me and quickly summoned the Buddhist Power within me. I struck the girl with my right hand while chanting: "Buddhist Teachings to Save All Beings, ferrying humans, demons, and spirits! Since you are Undead, reincarnate and forget the mortal world! Buddhist Transformation Palm! Namo Amitabha Buddha!"
I wasn't sure if there was a soul within this girl; I just thought I'd give it a try by unleashing the Buddha's Palm of Salvation from the Buddhist Sect.
"Ah!" The girl let out a scream as her facial features twisted in a manner similar to what Wang Xinyu had experienced earlier.
In Wang Xinyu's house, He Naixing stood before the altar. He saw smoke rising from the Puppet's head as if it were about to catch fire. His expression remained unchanged as he muttered incantations and pulled out a completely black rooster from beneath the altar.
"Rooster crowing at dawn, witchcraft reveals the Demon God! Daoist magic breaks the spirit body; Evil Spell binds the true soul! Black crow serves the underworld; Puppet harbors blood and soul!" He Naixing grasped the rooster's head with his right hand and yanked it forcefully until its head was torn off. He casually tossed the rooster's body aside and crushed its head into pulp with his grip before letting its blood drip onto the Puppet.
"Sizzle~~" The rooster's blood dripped onto the Puppet like cold water hitting a red-hot iron block, producing a hissing sound.
After five or six seconds, the Puppet on the altar was stained red with the blood of a chicken's head, and the green smoke rising from its head was extinguished. The features that He Naixing had drawn on the Puppet became obscured by the blood, rendering them indistinct.
He Naixing tossed the remnants of the chicken head onto the ground. Holding the Puppet in his hands, he took a handful of Black Powder from the altar and sprinkled it over the Puppet's head, then placed the Puppet's head over the candle flame on the altar to burn.
After a dozen seconds, the Black Powder seeped into the Puppet's head, and a blurry ghostly face appeared on its surface. He Naixing placed the Puppet back into the bowl on the altar and ominously declared, "The black crow caws, witchcraft kills!"
Inside the car, while He Naixing was performing his ritual, I had already freed myself from the girl's grasp, tearing out strands of her hair with my fingers.
"Damn it! Once I smash your head into pieces, let's see how you move!" I spat out the hair that had gotten into my mouth and raised my Demon-Subduing Staff, swinging it toward the girl's face.
The Demon-Subduing Staff struck her features directly, smashing through her skull. I was momentarily stunned as I pulled back my staff.
"Indeed, it's a Paper Man! Is this Western Sorcery?" I saw that her shattered skull was hollow inside, containing only a bundle of hair tied with a red string. I began to piece together her origins.
Furrowing my brow in confusion, I thought, "Western Wizards excel at Puppet techniques. Most sorcerers worship Demon Gods and are practitioners of Evil Cultivation! It's rare for Western Wizards to appear in our Great Dynasty. Could this Western Wizard have been specially invited by Wang Xinyu to deal with me?"
"Caw caw caw!" Just as I was lost in thought, the Paper Puppet before me emitted a rooster's crowing sound, and its features began to shift again. I watched as blood started to seep from its broken skull, revealing a black ghostly face emerging on the Puppet.
"This is bad!" A sense of foreboding washed over me. Gripping my Demon-Subduing Staff tightly, I swung it once more at the Puppet's head. If I could destroy that bundle of hair inside its skull, this Puppet would break free from the sorcerer's control.
I had some understanding of Western Sorcery and knew that those wizards would insert something from a Living Person into their Puppets; that was both a catalyst for their Puppet Technique and its core essence. The wizard controlled the Puppet from afar using that connection to the Living Person.
"Caw caw caw!" The ghostly face let out another cry as a sharp beak sprouted from its mouth and lunged toward my head. It ignored my attempts to smash it with the Demon-Subduing Staff and seemed intent on causing mutual destruction.
"Dare to fight me? Who's afraid of whom!" A fierce light flashed in my eyes as I swung the Demon-Subduing Staff towards the Puppet's head. At the same time, I secretly mobilized the Buddhist Power within me, summoning the Buddha Manifestation from my Dantian.
I controlled the Buddhist Manifestation and unleashed the Buddhist Transformation Palm once more. The Buddha Manifestation raised both palms and struck towards that ghostly face. I chanted, "Buddhist Teachings to Save All Beings, saving people, demons, and spirits! For the Undead, reincarnate and be free from worldly attachments! Buddhist Transformation Palm! Namo Amitabha Buddha!"
"Ah!" The ghostly face let out a terrible scream as it was struck by the Buddha Manifestation's transformative palm. Its features blurred, and in an instant, it was scattered into nothingness. Just as the ghostly face vanished, a burst of Black Blood shot out from it, splattering onto my left arm.
"What is this cursed thing!" I screamed, feeling a scorching heat on my left arm as if it had been scalded by boiling water. I hurriedly smashed the Puppet's head to pieces and discarded the Demon-Subduing Staff, looking at my left arm.
"Why won't this Black Blood come off!" My expression turned grave as I tried to wipe away the black filth. To my horror, I found that the Black Blood had already seeped into my skin and couldn't be removed, resembling a dark Birthmark.
"This can't be Voodoo!" A cold sweat broke out on my back, and my face turned pale. After the burning sensation on my left arm faded, it became numb and completely powerless. I realized I might have fallen victim to the Voodoo of the witch who created this Puppet.
