I sat alone beneath the Corpse Pit outside the palace, reciting the Buddhist Scriptures for the Departed over and over again. I had lost track of time and didn’t know how many times I had chanted the Rebirth Sutra; all I knew was that my voice had grown hoarse.
“All Things Have Spirits, All Things Have Souls. All Things Have Fate, All Lives Have an End. Do Not Be Attached to the Mortal World. Born in the Mortal Realm, Return to the Underworld. All Things Have Causes, In the Next Life, There Will Be Consequences. Namo Amitabha Buddha!” I closed my eyes and silently recited the Buddhist Scriptures for the Departed in my heart.
Suddenly, I felt a sharp tearing pain in my Dantian, as if something was trying to break free from within. I instinctively pressed my hand against my abdomen and focused my consciousness into my Dantian, only to discover that the Buddhist Relic inside had been completely refined, transforming into a powerful Buddhist Power that surged wildly within me.
I attempted to control the Buddhist Power inside my Dantian, but my interference only made it more agitated, intensifying the tearing pain I felt.
Sweat broke out all over my body from the pain, and I could no longer focus on chanting the Rebirth Sutra. Clutching my stomach, I rolled on the ground in agony, thinking to myself, “I can’t be going mad!”
“Ah!” After several seconds of enduring this torment, I reached my limit and gritted my teeth, letting out a hoarse scream. A beam of Golden Buddha Light shot out from my Dantian, followed by an increasing amount of Buddhist Power bursting forth and floating in midair, forming a golden orb about the size of a basin.
As the Buddhist Power surged out of my Dantian, the intense pain dissipated. I got up from the ground and stared at the golden orb hovering above me, muttering in confusion, “What is this thing? How did it come out of my Dantian?”
The orb radiated pure Buddhist Power. Little did I know that it was actually the embryonic form of my Buddhist Manifestation. My current Buddhist Power had already reached the level of Buddha Manifestation within the Buddhist Sect, equivalent to a True Master in Daoist Sect.
However, compared to Yu Yuanhang’s Buddha's Dharmakaya, my Buddha Manifestation was like a child compared to an adult; it was still smaller than a Furious Vajra's palm. This was due to my shallow foundation and limited understanding of the Buddhist Sect. As I deepened my comprehension in the future, my Buddha Manifestation would grow stronger.
Namo Amitabha Buddha!” Suddenly, a voice reciting the Buddhist Scriptures for the Departed emanated from above me; it was crisp and sacred, striking at the hearts of Undead beings and easily washing away their Grievance—far more effective than my own chanting of the Rebirth Sutra.
“This thing can chant scriptures? What on earth is this?” I still hadn’t recognized the origin of this golden orb and looked up at it with fear in my eyes. The sound of Buddhist Scriptures for the Departed continued to resonate from within that golden orb as its originally round shape began to distort; gradually revealing its true form.
I saw a Buddha statue manifesting from above me; it had its hands pressed together and wore a benevolent smile that radiated holiness. The statue seemed familiar to me; as I focused closely on it, I immediately recognized its origin. My eyes widened in shock as I stared at it blankly; finally realizing what it was, I stammered out loud: “This... this Buddha statue is... Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva! Could this be my Buddha Manifestation?”
Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva is the supreme existence in the Buddhist Sect, holding a status comparable to that of the Supreme Old Lord in the Daoist Sect. Yu Yuanhang's Buddha Manifestation is merely a Furious Vajra, while my Buddha Manifestation is far more powerful than his. However, a higher-level Buddha Manifestation does not necessarily equate to greater destructive power.
For instance, Yu Yuanhang's Furious Vajra can obliterate a group of cat demons with a single strike, yet my Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva Buddha Manifestation cannot achieve that at all. The strength of a Buddhist Manifestation is influenced by many factors; the higher the level of the Buddha Manifestation, the greater its potential.
"Ha ha! I never expected that in less than a month, I would cultivate a Buddhist Manifestation! I truly am someone with great affinity for the Buddha!" I laughed heartily as I looked at the Buddha Manifestation above my head. With a wave of my hand, that Buddha Manifestation transformed into a beam of golden light and surged into my Dantian. As I sensed within my Dantian, I discovered a golden Buddha Manifestation, about the size of a thumb, floating inside.
"Oh oh~~" Suddenly, ghostly wails erupted from the Corpse Pit. Those Undead who had been partially transcended expressed their dissatisfaction with angry howls due to the interruption of the Buddhist Scriptures for the Departed. I glanced around the Corpse Pit and noticed that only a dozen or so Undead remained untranscended.
"Let’s test the power of my Buddha Manifestation!" My eyes sparkled with excitement. I quickly pressed my palms together and summoned the Buddha Manifestation from my Dantian while reciting the Buddhist Scriptures for the Departed. A half-meter tall Buddha Manifestation appeared above my head, its hands joined in prayer as it chanted along with me.
"All Things Have Spirits, All Things Have Souls. All Things Have Fate, All Lives Have an End; Do Not Be Attached to the Mortal World. Born in the Mortal Realm, Return to the Underworld. All Things Have Causes; In the Next Life, There Will Be Consequences. Namo Amitabha Buddha!"
After reciting the Rebirth Sutra just once, those Undead at the bottom of the Corpse Pit became transparent and instantly vanished into the Underworld.
"This Buddha Manifestation is indeed powerful!" I retracted my Buddha Manifestation and couldn't help but feel amazed. If it were just me reciting the Rebirth Sutra, I would need to chant it at least a dozen times to transcend these Undead. However, using the Buddha Manifestation was also quite taxing; after using it for a while, I felt somewhat drained. I estimated that if I continued for another two or three minutes, I would reach my limit.
"My body is still too weak; it seems I can't fall behind in physical training either!" I shook my head and sighed inwardly. As I put away the Longevity Lamp on the ground, I suddenly noticed a fist-sized bronze artifact lying beside me.
"Huh? Could this be an antique from an ancient tomb? I've struck gold! I've struck gold!" I picked up the bronze artifact; it felt heavy in my hand and was covered in a thick layer of black decay, making it difficult to discern what it was.
"Run quickly! Those Zombies are coming after us!" I heard a commotion from deep within the ancient tomb. My brow furrowed as I placed the bronze artifact into my bag and grabbed my Demon-Subduing Staff, climbing toward the top of the Corpse Pit.
I had been fully focused on transcending the Undead and was unaware of what was happening inside the ancient tomb; even the tremors prior had gone unnoticed.
"What is going on!" I climbed up from the Corpse Pit and looked deep into the ancient tomb, where a group of people was running out in a panic. Behind them, a synchronized sound of footsteps echoed, growing closer and closer.
