After the Bronze Door was fully opened, the torches inside the palace suddenly ignited, illuminating the vast space with a bright glow.
"Why are there so many corpses here? It's really an eyesore!" muttered a Grave Robber to himself. He saw the bodies of Mercenaries slaughtered by the Zombie Legion scattered across the floor. Although the corpses were torn to shreds, with bloody entrails and chunks of flesh strewn about, and the air filled with a nauseating stench of blood, the Grave Robber merely shrugged, showing no sign of fear.
As the saying goes, people die for wealth, and birds perish for food.
These Grave Robbers were solely focused on plundering treasures from the ancient tombs. With other Grave Robbers competing around them, they had no time to ponder the bizarre circumstances. After all, who among them hadn’t encountered strange occurrences while raiding tombs? The sight of dismembered bodies seemed perfectly normal to them.
"Hey! There's a Jade Coffin over there! We're going to get rich! We're going to get rich!" The Jade Coffin in the center of the palace stood out prominently. The group of Grave Robbers quickly noticed its presence, their eyes gleaming with greed as they hurried toward it.
Wu Jingye and his companions had encountered the Zombie Legion shortly after entering the palace. Strangely enough, despite these Grave Robbers having been inside for quite some time and already surrounding the Jade Coffin, no Low-level Zombies had appeared.
Even though the Jade Coffin was right in front of them, none of the Grave Robbers made an immediate move to open it. Instead, they each took out a candle, lit it, and placed it beneath the Jade Coffin. Due to the palace's vast size, they didn’t place these candles in the corners.
After setting up the candles, some Grave Robbers sincerely bowed toward the Jade Coffin, while others knelt before it and knocked their heads against the ground vigorously. Despite their different methods of showing respect, they all spoke in unison: "Disciples are forced to come here; now without a penny to my name, I seek funds to pave my way. If I prosper in the future, I will surely repay this kindness! I humbly request blessings from the Deceased!"
This ritual expressed respect for the Deceased and was a unique custom among Grave Robbers that everyone adhered to.
Suddenly, a strong gust of cold wind swept through the palace. The candles beneath the Jade Coffin were extinguished entirely, with some even knocked over onto the ground.
Among Grave Robbers circulated a saying: Before raiding a tomb, light a lamp! Pay respects to the deceased; watch the wick! If it’s steady, strike hard! If it goes out, retreat!
As all the Grave Robbers witnessed this scene, their faces darkened instantly, and an eerie silence fell over the palace.
“Damn it! I don’t believe in this nonsense! What can a dead person do? If you’re too scared to open it, I’ll do it myself! Don’t you dare get jealous of what’s inside!” One Grave Robber spat on the ground and approached the Jade Coffin with an iron rod specifically designed for prying open coffins.
"Damn it, such a Jade Coffin is a once-in-a-century find. I can't let this kid have it all to himself; I want a piece of the action too!" A few Grave Robbers gritted their teeth, wielding iron rods used for opening coffins, as they approached the Jade Coffin, ready to work together to pry it open.
The remaining Grave Robbers stood still, afraid to disturb the moldy aura and hesitant to open the coffin. However, they quietly watched from a distance, curious about what treasures might lie within the Jade Coffin.
Outside the Bronze Door, a group of Yin-Yang Masters observed the actions of the Grave Robbers, muttering under their breath, "What a bunch of fools! Can't they see there's a Ghost General standing right behind them?"
A Millennium Ghost General, an Eternal Ghost King! The Ghost General was one of those spirits with a thousand years of cultivation, belonging to an elite class of supernatural beings that typically only appeared in the Underworld.
This particular Ghost General looked peculiar; its aura was unstable, and its form appeared unnatural. Upon closer inspection, one would notice that its towering figure, over two meters tall, was actually composed of chunks of Black Ghostly Aura. Hidden within that Black Ghostly Aura were numerous ghostly faces—over twenty in total.
This Ghost General was actually formed from all the Evil Spirits contained within the three Demon Sealing Staffs of Wu Jingye. After being forcibly shattered by someone, they had been reassembled into this form. Such a method was terrifying; creating a Ghost General like this was not something an ordinary person could achieve!
It seemed that some events had transpired in the graveyard earlier, likely related to the missing Zombie Legion. However, all of this awaited revelation.
Once the Ghost General appeared, its ghostly faces twisted into grimaces as it emitted silent wails. It stealthily grabbed one of the Grave Robbers by the shoulder. As its body drew near, the ghostly faces on it immediately erupted into greedy cries, eagerly opening their mouths to devour the Yang Qi from that Grave Robber.
"Ugh~" The flesh of that Grave Robber shriveled at an observable rate; his originally dark hair turned completely white, and his smooth skin became wrinkled as if he had aged decades in an instant.
"Ssss~~" After seven or eight seconds, the last trace of Yang Qi was consumed from his body. He trembled and kicked his legs before collapsing lifelessly. This Grave Robber died with his eyes wide open, filled with unwillingness and unable to close them. Until his last moment, he never saw the true face of the Ghost General.
The Ghost General discarded the body of the Grave Robber onto the ground and repeated its actions. After two or three minutes, all those who had not attempted to open the coffin were drained of their Yang Qi, dying on the spot.
"Burp~ I'm feeling a bit full!" The Ghost General let out a satisfied belch as its aura stabilized further. It licked its lips and cast a resentful gaze toward the group of Yin-Yang Masters outside the Bronze Door, growling, "Taoists! Another bunch of Stinky Taoists! I became what I am today because of these Taoists! I will devour them!"
With that, the Ghost General flickered and floated toward the outside of the Bronze Door, ignoring the remaining Grave Robbers in front of the Jade Coffin.
"Not good, the Ghost General is coming! We're doomed!" The group of Yin-Yang Masters had already started to flee the moment the Bronze Door opened, but they were being pressured by the aura of the Ghost General, making their movements sluggish. They hadn't even reached the Passage leading to the graveyard.
"Haha! Die, all of you!" The Ghost General roared ferociously, his body swaying as he transformed into a mass of Black Ghostly Aura, enveloping all the Yin-Yang Masters within.
"Finally back to my true self; this feeling is exhilarating!" Within the Eerie Aura floated a dozen powerful ghostly faces, emitting sounds of delight.
"Please, no! Great Ghost General, we beg you to spare us!" The Yin-Yang Masters cried out in despair, their limbs tightly bound by the Eerie Aura, rendering them completely immobile. They could only watch helplessly as the ghostly faces drifted behind them, opening their mouths to consume the Yang Qi within them.
In front of the Jade Coffin, the group of Grave Robbers was just about to pry open the coffin lid when they heard a faint sound from inside. To their surprise, a gap appeared as the lid of the Jade Coffin opened on its own.
"Haha! Who would have thought such good fortune would come our way? It's a feast delivered right to our door; we can't let it go to waste!" Some Grave Robbers laughed excitedly as they rushed over, preparing to push the coffin lid fully open.
"Really noisy!" A commanding male voice emerged from within the Jade Coffin. Suddenly, a strong arm reached out from inside. The fingers of that arm were adorned with sharp nails, which quickly jabbed into the foreheads of those Grave Robbers, piercing through their skulls.
"Bang!" The bodies of the Grave Robbers fell stiffly to the ground with a soft thud. White brain matter mixed with crimson blood flowed from the wounds on their foreheads, pooling into a murky red and white liquid on the ground.
