As soon as the lid of the stone coffin was pried open, a cloud of black Corpse Qi wafted out, filling the entire stone chamber with a foul stench.
Earthwalker Dragon's expression grew serious. He stepped back a few paces from the coffin and took out a fresh Mugwort from his belongings. With swift hands, he kneaded the Mugwort into a suitable size and stuffed it into his nostrils.
The visible Corpse Qi emanating from the coffin was something Grave Robbers often encountered. This type of Corpse Qi not only reeked but also dulled the mind; inhaling too much of it could easily lead to hallucinations.
To combat this situation, Grave Robbers always prepared fresh Mugwort before venturing into tombs. By stuffing Mugwort into their nostrils, they could filter out the foul Corpse Qi in the air, while the pungent scent of Mugwort helped keep their minds alert.
Seeing that the four Grave Robbers were merely covering their noses with their hands, Earthwalker Dragon quickly shared his Mugwort with them, saying, "You all need to stuff this into your nostrils!"
"Thank you, Senior Brother!" The four Grave Robbers gratefully accepted the Mugwort and hurriedly stuffed it into their noses, relief washing over their faces.
After a while, all the Corpse Qi from the coffin dissipated into the chamber. At this moment, Earthwalker Dragon and the others gathered around once more.
Inside the coffin, as soon as the corpse made contact with air, it began to rot away, leaving only a pile of white bones. Judging by the size of the bones, it appeared that the owner of this corpse had been an eleven or twelve-year-old child.
"This child must have been very noble in life!" Earthwalker Dragon observed that the corpse was dressed in a robe embroidered with Gold Thread and wore a palm-sized jade pendant that was entirely emerald green at its waist. To its right lay an exquisitely crafted ancient sword. The items adorning this corpse indicated its extraordinary status.
In addition to these personal items, there were also numerous gold and silver treasures within the coffin. There were over ten gold ingots weighing one kilogram each, along with many exquisite Jade Artifact ornaments.
Any single item taken from within the coffin could fetch hundreds of thousands in value. If they could claim everything for themselves, it would amount to an enormous sum—enough to last even a lavish spender a lifetime without running out.
Suddenly, the atmosphere in the stone chamber turned eerily quiet; even the heavy breathing around them became audible.
Earthwalker Dragon glanced at the four Grave Robbers beside him and noticed their eyes had turned bloodshot; they were on the brink of losing their sanity. He admitted to himself that he too felt a surge of greed for these treasures, but ultimately his reason triumphed over his desire.
Shaking his head, Earthwalker Dragon called out loudly, "Everyone stay calm! With so many treasures here, even if we split them five ways, each of us will still gain plenty! We are all brothers; let’s not do anything foolish!"
Upon hearing Earthwalker Dragon's words, the four Grave Robbers trembled slightly and took deep breaths, regaining a bit of their rationality. After a moment of silence, one finally spoke up: "Senior Brother is right; we should divide these treasures among ourselves as brothers rather than turn against each other over wealth!"
The five of them exchanged glances, nodding at each other, and Earthwalker Dragon let out a long sigh of relief.
"Senior Brother Earthwalker Dragon, you're the oldest among us, so you should choose first!" one of the Grave Robbers spoke up. In the profession of Grave Robbers, there was an unwritten rule: when dividing up the loot, the one with the highest seniority would select a treasure first, and the others would follow in order of seniority to choose equivalent treasures until everything was distributed.
"Alright, my junior brothers, I will go first!" Earthwalker Dragon nodded. He walked over to the stone coffin and reached for the jade pendant hanging from the waist of the corpse. The most valuable item inside the coffin was actually an ancient sword, but since it was a weapon associated with danger, it would be difficult to take. Thus, Earthwalker Dragon chose the jade pendant instead, which was valuable yet easy to sell.
After taking the pendant, Earthwalker Dragon quickly stepped back behind the stone coffin. The remaining four Grave Robbers then took turns selecting equivalent treasures. The ancient sword inside the coffin was taken by the second Grave Robber who stepped forward.
Liu Yunchong stood outside the stone chamber, feeling somewhat anxious. He pulled out a cigarette and took deep puffs. As he exhaled a smoke ring and leaned against the wall, he thought to himself, "If it weren't for being down here digging graves with my brothers, I wouldn't have given up on those treasures inside. Who knows what good stuff Earthwalker Dragon and the others have found!"
"Roar! I smell flesh! I want to eat!" The growling from within the Corpse Pit interrupted Liu Yunchong's thoughts. He saw countless corpses awakening, clawing at the walls of the Corpse Pit with their limbs as they desperately tried to climb up.
At this rate, in another two or three minutes, some corpses would be climbing out.
Liu Yunchong threw his cigarette on the ground and shouted loudly into the stone chamber, "Senior Brother! You all need to come out quickly! In two minutes, those corpses in the Corpse Pit will crawl out!"
After shouting, Liu Yunchong turned and ran towards the exit of the Tomb. He had already informed Earthwalker Dragon and his group about the situation; whether they managed to escape or not was no longer his concern.
As the saying goes, people die for wealth just as birds die for food. It was not uncommon for Grave Robbers to miss their chance to escape due to greed for riches and end up dying in a tomb.
Inside the stone chamber, upon hearing Liu Yunchong's words, the faces of Earthwalker Dragon and his companions darkened. However, no one immediately left the chamber.
Earthwalker Dragon glanced at the coffin where seven or eight gold ingots and over ten jade artifacts remained. He touched his own treasures: a palm-sized exquisite jade pendant and two shiny gold ingots.
Looking at his four fellow Grave Robbers, his eyes flickered as he sighed internally and ultimately decided against making a grab for more treasures. He shook his head and said, "My junior brothers, I withdraw. You four can divide up the remaining treasures!"
Earthwalker Dragon turned and ran out of the stone chamber only to find that Liu Yunchong's figure had already vanished. Shaking his head, he glanced down at the Corpse Pit and saw that those corpses were almost half a person high from crawling up. Earthwalker Dragon's expression turned grim as he shouted into the stone chamber, "If you don't want to die, get out now!"
As the voice of the Earthwalker Dragon faded, he discarded his heavy pack and hurriedly ran towards the exit of the Tomb.
Inside the stone chamber, the four Grave Robbers had lost their sanity. Their eyes were bloodshot as they continued to divide the treasures, completely ignoring the warning from the Earthwalker Dragon.
After about a minute, the four Grave Robbers finally finished distributing the treasures from the sarcophagus. Excitement lit up their faces as they began to fantasize about a future filled with indulgence and pleasure.
"Roar! There are still four Living Persons here! I can finally feast on human flesh!" At that moment, a Corpse burst into the stone chamber, clawing and lunging at the four Grave Robbers.
"Seeking death!" the four Grave Robbers shouted in unison, drawing their daggers and stabbing at the Corpse's head. The daggers were enchanted and specifically designed to deal with the filth found in graves.
The daggers pierced through the Corpse's skull, scattering its lingering soul. The body trembled violently before collapsing to the ground, transforming into a pile of rotten bones and a pool of foul-smelling corpse water.
"Roar! Here! Living Persons are here!" Just as the four Grave Robbers killed one Corpse, more Corpses rushed in. Soon, the stone chamber was filled with them, all clawing and lunging at the four Grave Robbers.
"Ah! No!" The chamber echoed with the pitiful screams of the Grave Robbers as their bodies were torn apart by the Corpses. Blood flowed freely across the floor, and their intestines hung outside their bodies, bitten in half and stuffed into mouths by the Corpses.
After three or four minutes, the Corpses left the stone chamber. The ground was a scene of devastation, with warm blood pooling around, scattered bits of flesh and entrails, and a multitude of human bones littering the floor.
