On the second morning, just as dawn broke, Wu Jingye and his group of over twenty people, equipped with tomb raiding gear, ventured deeper into the mountains.
“Captain Mike, still no contact with your men?” Dillingchar glared angrily at the leader of the Mercenaries behind him. Last night, the Mercenaries were supposed to report in on time, but suddenly they went silent, and even by this morning, there was still no response.
“Mr. Dilling, I haven't received any word from them so far!” Captain Mike replied gravely. He knew his men well; they wouldn’t just fail to report without reason. The current situation could only mean that something unexpected had happened on their end, and it was likely serious.
“Dillingchar, you don’t need to worry too much. Now that we’re setting off, even if those Grave Robbers got in first, we can still reach them before they come out! That Tomb hides the Nine-Dragon Cauldron; it won’t be easy to steal!” Wu Jingye said casually as he walked at the front of the group with four other Yin-Yang Masters. Ever since Wu Jingye learned that the Mercenaries had lost contact, a sense of foreboding settled in his heart.
The Mercenaries numbered over ten, each one a trained warrior armed with firearms. If they had merely encountered Liu Yunchong and his gang of Grave Robbers, they would have been fully capable of fighting back or even wiping them out. But now that they had lost contact, it was likely they faced something far more terrifying.
“Hmph! We better catch up!” Dillingchar scoffed at Wu Jingye and fell silent, quickening his pace to follow the others into the depths of the mountains.
Meanwhile, Liu Yunchong had already reached the mountaintop where the Tomb’s entrance was located, carrying his own pack. He was accompanied by five men—Grave Robbers he had summoned yesterday and also his fellow disciples.
Among these five men, the oldest was about Liu Yunchong's age; he was Liu Yunchong's senior brother known as Earthwalker Dragon. The other four were in their thirties and were Liu Yunchong's junior brothers who had yet to make a name for themselves.
Following the treasure map’s guidance, Liu Yunchong and his companions found this mountaintop. However, after nearly an hour of searching, they still hadn’t located the entrance to the Tomb.
Most Grave Robbers learned some Feng Shui techniques and had skills for locating burial sites. However, these skills could only determine a general area for the Tomb; they couldn’t pinpoint its exact entrance.
Earthwalker Dragon held a compass in hand and moved closer according to its direction. Suddenly, he stopped and looked ahead, taking two deep breaths through his nose.
His expression turned serious as he glanced back at Liu Yunchong and asked, “Cloudwalker, do you smell a strong scent of blood nearby?”
Upon hearing Earthwalker Dragon’s words, Liu Yunchong quickly inhaled deeply through his nose and faintly detected the metallic scent in the air. His expression also grew grave as he pulled a dagger from his pack and said, “Brother, I fear that the entrance to the Tomb is just ahead; let’s go take a look!”
Earthwalker Dragon nodded in agreement as they all drew their weapons. The six of them shared a tacit understanding as they quickly approached the Tomb’s entrance while keeping a watchful eye on their surroundings.
The smell of blood in the air grew heavier, so strong that even without trying to sniff it out, one could clearly sense it. Liu Yunchong and the others' expressions darkened; they guessed that many had died ahead, yet they were not deterred.
Earthwalker Dragon, the highest-ranking among the six, turned to the others and said, "Everyone, stay alert! If things go wrong, split up and escape! Don't act recklessly!"
"Don't worry, Senior Brother!" Grave Robber replied. He was used to living on the edge, and Liu Yunchong and the others nodded, knowing what to do if the situation turned dire.
After walking for a few more minutes, they finally saw the entrance to the Tomb, but they stopped there, not daring to approach any closer.
Outside the Tomb lay a pile of blood-soaked camouflage uniforms, scattered with bits of internal organs and many bones still clinging to strips of flesh. The bloody stench in the air emanated from this gruesome sight.
"What on earth happened here?" Liu Yunchong was completely shocked by what lay before them. They often dealt with dead bodies and immediately recognized that those bones belonged to humans. Over a dozen Mercenaries had perished, reduced to nothing but bones—how terrifying that was.
Earthwalker Dragon crouched down and picked up a thumb-sized piece of copper. This piece had fallen from one of the armored Zombies and was stained with thick Corpse Qi. He extended his tongue to lick the copper piece, and his face instantly paled. He spat out seven or eight mouthfuls of black saliva before he stopped.
"They must have encountered something foul inside the Tomb! This Tomb is no ordinary place; we six can't handle it!" Earthwalker Dragon handed the copper piece to Liu Yunchong and spoke gravely.
"It's a pity to just give up on such an ancient tomb!" Liu Yunchong believed Earthwalker Dragon's words without question. However, each of them carefully observed the patterns on the copper piece and its unique patina, beginning to form their own speculations about the Tomb before them.
Liu Yunchong gently rubbed the copper piece with his fingers, his eyes flickering as he spoke, "Senior Brother, why don't we wait here for Wu Jingye and discuss collaborating again?"
Earthwalker Dragon frowned and replied, "Cloudwalker, you deceived Wu Jingye once; do you think he'll trust you again?"
Liu Yunchong let out a hearty laugh. "Haha! Senior Brother, this Tomb is no simple matter! Even we Grave Robbers can't handle it; how can a spell-casting Taoist like him manage? Without our help, even if he can eliminate whatever foulness lies within, he will surely fall victim to hidden traps in the Tomb."
"Then let's wait a bit longer!" Earthwalker Dragon nodded. In their line of work as Grave Robbers, it was crucial to come away with something; returning empty-handed this time would bode poorly for their future endeavors.
After more than an hour had passed, Wu Jingye and his group approached with great momentum. Upon seeing the pile of body remnants on the ground and Liu Yunchong standing not far away, the atmosphere suddenly became tense.
Dillingchar's face darkened to the extreme as he pointed his right hand at Liu Yunchong and the others, shouting in English, "Surround them! If they dare to move, break their limbs!"
"Yes, Mr. Dilling!" The group of Mercenaries armed with Submachine Guns moved in, aiming at Liu Yunchong's limbs. The moment Dillingchar gave the order, they would open fire.
Despite their bravery, Liu Yunchong and his companions felt a lack of confidence under the threat of so many Submachine Guns. Liu Yunchong raised his hands and shouted to Wu Jingye, "Wu Jingye, your people weren't killed by us; you should know that! We're here to cooperate with you. Tell these Americans not to shoot recklessly!"
"The Corpse Qi here is so thick!" Wu Jingye looked at the pile of Skeletons on the ground, his expression turning serious. He could sense the lingering Corpse Qi in the air and knew that Liu Yunchong and his group were not responsible for attacking the Mercenaries.
"You didn't kill them, but you will die!" Dillingchar suspected that his men were not killed by Liu Yunchong's group, but he was merely looking for a scapegoat and didn't care whether they were murderers or not.
Wu Jingye shook his head and approached Dillingchar. He said, "They are professional Grave Robbers; this Tomb is not simple! We need their help. Have your men lower their guns!"
Dillingchar met Wu Jingye's gaze defiantly and did not instruct the Mercenaries to lower their Submachine Guns. The atmosphere grew even tenser.
"Don't you want to obtain the Nine-Dragon Cauldron?" Wu Jingye whispered into Dillingchar's ear. Dillingchar's body trembled slightly, and after a moment, he waved his hand at the Mercenaries and said in English, "Lower your guns!"
Liu Yunchong and his companions let out a long sigh of relief and quickly stepped forward to Wu Jingye, smiling as they said, "Pleasure doing business!"
