The sky was clear and the river calm, appearing devoid of any danger. However, the captain and three crew members on the boat wore tense expressions, not daring to let their guard down. 0

At that moment, the captain approached me and pointed to the left front of the fishing boat. "Master, we have entered the territory of the Water Monsters. Ahead is that solitary island!" 0

I looked in that direction and could vaguely see the outline of the island ahead. A few sparse trees grew on it, giving it a desolate appearance. The lowest point of the island rose about a story above the water's surface, and its area seemed relatively small, roughly comparable to a standard football field. 0

"That's it?" I said, somewhat disappointed. The island before me was not as expansive or grand as I had imagined; it resembled a large rock more than anything else. 0

As the fishing boat adjusted its course and continued toward the island, I began to see it more clearly. 0

When the boat was less than a hundred meters from the island, sunlight illuminated a cave that came into view right at the water's edge. It was easily noticeable. 0

My gaze shifted to that cave when suddenly, out of nowhere, figures rushed out from within and jumped into the water without hesitation. 0

"Wait? How could there be people in that cave?" I furrowed my brow and asked in confusion. 0

The others on board had also witnessed this scene; they became increasingly anxious. Only the captain beside me remained somewhat composed. He took a deep breath and said with a trembling voice, "Master, those are not people; they are Water Monsters! The clothes they are wearing were stolen from our fishing boat!" 0

"Which ones are the Water Monsters?" I found it hard to believe what the captain said and looked again. This time I examined more closely and noticed that although those Water Monsters wore human clothing, their walking posture was awkward. Some even crawled on all fours like animals. Seeing this made me realize that what the captain said was indeed true. 0

"They're coming this way! Everyone, throw the food overboard!" The captain shouted as he spotted clear water trails nearby; over a dozen Water Monsters were swimming toward them at high speed. He quickly directed his crew to toss prepared pork, beef offal, sheep heads, and other items into the water one basket at a time. 0

The Water Monsters in the river were attracted by the food; they rushed over to snatch it up instead of immediately trying to overturn our fishing boat. 0

Once all the food was thrown into the river, the captain bowed deeply to me along with his three crew members and earnestly said, "We humbly ask you, Master, to drive away these Water Monsters so we can fish here in peace! Master, please!" 0

"Master, please!" the people on the boat shouted in unison. 0

"Captain, take them away! I'll handle this! I will definitely drive these Water Monsters away, so you can rest assured!" I said, helping the captain and the others to their feet, patting my chest with determination. 0

"Master, we have prepared food and drinks on the shore, waiting for your good news!" The captain smiled at my decisiveness, showing absolute trust in me. With that, he and three crew members jumped into the river and swam towards the fishing boat behind us. 0

Seeing the captain and his crew safely climb aboard the fishing boat brought a sigh of relief to my heart. I turned my gaze to the Water Monsters in the water and muttered to myself, "Sigh, these Water Monkeys are not so easy to deal with!" 0

The Water Monkeys were the true forms of these Water Monsters. When I heard Xiao's description earlier, I had already vaguely guessed their identity. 0

Water Monkeys had limbs similar to humans and yellow fur covering their bodies. They moved through the water with agility surpassing that of humans. Water Monkeys were a common type of water spirit, usually hiding deep in reservoirs or in crevices along riverbanks, quietly cultivating themselves and rarely appearing in front of people. 0

In a stretch of river, there would typically only be two or three Water Monkeys at most. Now, suddenly, there were more than ten of them here, and they were brazenly disrupting human life—there must be some hidden secret behind this. 0

"Bang bang!" Just as I was lost in thought, those Water Monkeys had finished eating whatever food was in the water. They rushed over and surrounded the fishing boat, slapping against its bottom repeatedly. 0

The fishing boat rocked violently from the relentless slaps of the Water Monkeys. I stood at the bow, gripping the edge of the boat tightly with my left hand, unwilling to let go. If I released my grip even for a moment, my body would sway with the boat and soon I'd fall into the river, at which point I'd be at the mercy of those Water Monkeys—something I did not want to see happen. 0

"Just over thirty meters left; if I can hold on for a few more minutes, it will be close enough for me to jump ashore!" My eyes were fixed ahead. Even though my left hand was becoming numb, I refused to let go. Only by jumping ashore could I have a chance to fight those Water Monkeys; this was my only opportunity. 0

"Oh oh~~" The group of Water Monkeys had noticed my presence. They let out furious howls, and a few even poked their heads above water, baring their teeth at me in an attempt to intimidate me. 0

The appearance of Water Monkeys was similar to that of ordinary monkeys; however, their skin was pale due to lack of sunlight—almost like a dead face. Their tactics might work against ordinary people, but they clearly underestimated me. 0

"You think you can scare me? You're still too green!" Having seen even the ugliest corpses before, how could I possibly be frightened by them? My childish spirit stirred within me as I made a grimace with my hands and glared back at them. 0

"Oh no~~" The Water Monkeys were furious, letting out angry howls. Two agile Water Monkeys climbed onto the fishing boat and lunged at me. 0

"Monkeys, what are you thinking? You’re out of the water now, and I can handle you with just one hand!" I said calmly, watching the two Water Monkeys as I pointed my Demon-Subduing Staff at them. Sensing that I was not easy to deal with, the two Water Monkeys exchanged glances and darted towards me from both sides. 0

"Here we go again!" I clearly underestimated the intelligence of the Water Monkeys. As they charged at me, I had no choice but to release my left hand and prepare to take them seriously. 0

I lunged forward, swinging my Demon-Subduing Staff at the Water Monkey on the left. Just as I was about to hit it, it dodged and jumped off the fishing boat. 0

"Oh no~~" The other Water Monkey let out a triumphant roar and quickly followed suit. Suddenly, the bottom of the fishing boat shook violently as all the Water Monkeys gathered on one side, pushing against it with all their might. 0

"This is bad; I've been tricked!" A sense of foreboding washed over me. Cursing myself internally, I rushed to the front of the boat, using my momentum to leap forward and reach for the shore. 0

The shore was still about five meters away from the bow of the boat. I exerted all my strength to jump across, throwing my Demon-Subduing Staff onto the shore ahead of me and grabbing hold of it just in time. 0

"That was close!" I exhaled deeply, quickly climbing onto the shore and picking up my Demon-Subduing Staff while glancing back at the fishing boat. Just as my body left the boat, all the Water Monkeys pushed with a loud crash, flipping the sturdy fishing boat over and sending up a massive splash. Seeing this made me break out in a cold sweat; thankfully, I had escaped in time. 0

"How fun! So much fun!" Suddenly, a clear voice belonging to a girl came from behind me, startling me into a stiffened posture. I remembered that there had been no one there when I jumped up! 0
