I returned to Uncle's house and saw Jiang Bao still watching TV, so I called out to him, "Jiang Bao, come with me for a moment."
Jiang Bao turned off the TV and followed me, asking, " Brother Jiang Ling, what are we going out for at this late hour?"
"Stop talking nonsense; you'll find out when we get there!" I walked straight into the bedroom and pulled out the Seven Star Mysterious Dragon Sword from under the bed, slinging it across my back. Just in case, I also grabbed my waist pouch.
Seeing my preparations, Jiang Bao immediately guessed something. Leaning against the doorframe, he said somewhat nervously, " Brother Jiang Ling, you’re not going to confront those ghosts from the school at the village entrance, are you?"
"Eh? How did you know?" I looked at Jiang Bao and suddenly remembered that a sorcerer had come to rescue them before. I approached him with a mischievous smile and said, "Jiang Bao, have you been there too? Did that Liu Boss give you a beating and scare you away?"
Jiang Bao scratched the back of his head awkwardly and insisted, "I wasn’t scared off! I just didn’t want to hurt those ghosts; I chose a strategic retreat because I had no other option."
"I believe you!" I patted Jiang Bao on the shoulder and said, "Now that those ghosts have been sent to the Underworld by me, there’s no one to stop you. You can act boldly now."
Upon hearing this, Jiang Bao wore a look of despair. He shook his bandaged hands and pleaded, " Brother Jiang Ling, please! I'm injured right now; I can't handle this kind of work!"
"Stop whining; let's go," I said as I grabbed Jiang Bao's shoulders and pulled him outside.
We arrived in front of the Abandoned School, which had become desolate; not a single ghost was in sight.
Jiang Bao looked at the scene before him in disbelief. " Brother Jiang Ling, how could you possibly send those ghosts to the Underworld? That Teacher Liu is quite formidable; how did you deal with her?"
"I didn't encounter any Teacher Liu!" Ignoring Jiang Bao's question, I walked over to where I had previously set up the Yin-Yang Path. Looking around on the ground, I couldn't find the copper coins I had used for the setup. Frowning, I muttered, "This doesn't make sense; where have my coins gone?"
Something was off; there must be something behind it!
As I continued searching for signs of the coins while keeping my head down, I called out to Jiang Bao without turning around, "Jiang Bao, help me look for any copper coins on the ground."
"Okay!" Jiang Bao replied and began searching as well. Neither of us noticed a figure standing coldly on a tree behind us, watching intently.
I walked a little further into the school and finally spotted the copper coin lying on the weeds.
"Finally found it!" I bent down to pick up the coin, wondering how it ended up here. However, just as my fingers brushed against the coin, it suddenly fell away.
"What’s going on?" I pushed aside the weeds in front of me and discovered a rotting wooden plank covering the ground. The plank was in tatters, riddled with holes, and I could clearly see a large black hole beneath it that resembled a well; the copper coin had fallen into it.
"Something strange is going on here!" I lifted the wooden plank and leaned over to take a look into the well. It was pitch black inside, and I couldn't see anything at all. Just then, I felt a chill rising from the bottom of the well, causing me to instinctively step back a few paces.
"What a heavy Grievance!" As soon as I moved away from the well, a cloud of white mist floated out from its opening. I could sense that the Grievance within that mist was intense.
Furrowing my brow, I quickly thrust my hands forward towards the mist to cast a Seal while reciting an incantation.
"Supreme Three Pure Ones, divine spirits of Taoism, restless souls of Grievance, disperse!" After finishing the incantation, I directed the Seal towards the Grievance in front of me. The Seal struck the mist directly, eliminating the Grievance within it, causing the entire cloud of mist to fall back into the well due to the absence of any lingering Grievance.
"The whole village is out of water, yet this well still has mist rising from it. It seems likely that the Drought Demon is hiding down there." I drew my Seven Star Mysterious Dragon Sword from my back and cautiously eyed the well's opening.
"Jiang Bao, something feels off here; come help me!" I turned to look for Jiang Bao but found him lying motionless by the roadside. Calling his name yielded no response. What sent chills down my spine was that a woman stood beside him, though I couldn't tell when she had appeared.
The woman looked to be in her thirties, dressed in a black work uniform and holding a baton that made her seem quite intimidating. Strangely enough, I couldn't sense any aura from her; it was impossible to tell whether she was human or ghost.
I tightened my grip on the Seven Star Mysterious Dragon Sword and hesitantly asked, "Are you Teacher Liu?"
The woman nodded slightly and slowly approached me while saying, "My name is Liu Xin; I teach at this school. You can also call me Teacher Liu."
I felt speechless; this Liu Xin was quite something. This place was clearly an abandoned school with not a single Living Person around—was she teaching those ghosts?!
Liu Xin stopped three steps away from me and glanced at the well behind me before coldly asking, "What’s your name, and why are you here?"
I didn't directly expose Liu Xin; instead, I tentatively said, "My name is Jiang Ling, and I am a Yin-Yang Master specializing in dealing with ghosts. Just now, I sent a group of spirits to the Underworld for reincarnation."
Upon hearing my words, Liu Xin's expression twisted into a snarl. She lunged at me with both hands outstretched toward my face, shouting, "What?! You sent my students to the Underworld! I will kill you!"
"Liu Xin, don't force me to take action!" I saw Liu Xin charging at me and furrowed my brow, quickly stepping back a few paces while using my Seven Star Mysterious Dragon Sword to deflect her hands. I wasn't sure yet whether Liu Xin was human or ghost, so I held back.
"You die!" Liu Xin, sensing my hesitation, became even more reckless in her assault. At that moment, I felt a fluctuation in the aura surrounding her, which immediately revealed her true identity to me.
"I didn't expect you to be a Paper Spirit!" I swung my Seven Star Mysterious Dragon Sword at Liu Xin's left arm. The sword cut a long gash into her arm, but strangely, no blood flowed from the wound. Instead, it became clear that Liu Xin's arm was filled with nothing but pieces of paper inscribed with vermilion talismans.
A Paper Spirit is a Puppet created by evil sorcerers using talismans. Since a Paper Spirit lacks the vitality of a Living Person and does not possess the Eerie Aura of a Corpse, I initially failed to recognize Liu Xin's true form. It was only when she activated the power of the talismans within her body that I began to suspect her identity.
Seeing that I had murderous intent, Liu Xin hesitated to charge forward. Instead, she let out an eerie laugh and said ominously, "Stinky Taoist, if you think I'm just an ordinary Paper Spirit, you're gravely mistaken! Now let me show you my true abilities!"
Liu Xin stripped off her clothing, revealing her true form. Her body was covered in bizarre runes that filled me with unease; this Liu Xin was indeed not an ordinary Paper Spirit.
I took a deep breath, feeling uncertain about how to deal with Liu Xin. From my waist pouch, I retrieved three talismans and looked at Liu Xin in shock as I exclaimed, "I can't believe you're actually a Human Skin Paper Spirit!"
