Hearing the Old Witch's words, a flicker of fear crossed Jiang Bao's eyes. He turned to me and asked, " Brother Jiang Ling, she isn't really going to turn us into Zombies, is she?"
"It should be true!" I replied nervously, knowing that if the Old Witch wanted to kill us, she could easily command those Evil Spirits to do it without all this trouble.
At that moment, the Old Witch pushed her staff aside and looked at us with a sinister smile. "Before I turn you into Zombies, it's better to let you suffer a bit first!"
She pointed her staff at us and commanded the nearby Evil Spirits, "Strip them of their filthy skins! I don't want anyone recognizing them after I turn them into Zombies!"
Upon hearing the Old Witch's orders, the Evil Spirits glimmered with green light in their eyes and lunged at us with claws bared, looking ferocious enough to tear us apart.
Jiang Bao and I had just gotten up from the ground when we heard the Old Witch's words. We were so frightened that our scalps tingled, and we quickly huddled together.
"Get away from me!" I saw one of the Evil Spirits charging towards me. I quickly formed a Seal and slapped it against the creature's chest.
The Seal hit the Evil Spirit's chest, causing it to stagger back a step before it continued reaching for me as if nothing had happened.
Furrowing my brow, I felt my magical energy was nearly depleted, which explained why my Seal lacked power. I sighed and shook my head. "Damn it, we're dead for sure!"
The Evil Spirit grabbed my right hand and opened its mouth to bite my arm. Although I knew I couldn't form another Seal, I wasn't ready to give in so easily upon seeing this creature.
"Die!" I bit my tongue and immediately sprayed some Tongue Blood onto the Evil Spirit's head. Tongue Blood is a pure substance specifically used to counteract evil beings. I was well aware of the pain from biting my tongue, but with no other options left, I had to do it.
As soon as the Evil Spirit came into contact with the Tongue Blood, white smoke began to rise from its head, and the blood started corroding its skull, making it look as if it had been doused in acid. The Evil Spirit let out a wretched scream, released my arm, and fled to a distance.
"Oh no!" Just as I pulled my right hand away, I saw another large group of Evil Spirits rushing toward me; they were already upon me. Even if I used Tongue Blood again now, it wouldn't be enough.
Jiang Bao was in an even worse situation; he was already surrounded by a group of Evil Spirits. They had seized his limbs and were taking turns biting him.
"Ah! Brother Jiang Ling! Help!" Jiang Bao cried out as the Evil Spirits bit into his body, leaving dozens of wounds that bled profusely and quickly soaked his clothes red.
"Jiang Bao, hang in there!" Seeing Jiang Bao's plight ignited a surge of adrenaline in me. My vision turned red with rage as I knocked away the nearest Evil Spirit and rushed toward Jiang Bao's side.
"Get away from me!" I rushed to Jiang Bao's side, unleashing several Seals to drive away the group of Evil Spirits. I quickly helped Jiang Bao to his feet and asked, "Jiang Bao, are you okay?"
Jiang Bao looked extremely weak, barely able to stand. He coughed up a mouthful of blood and smiled, saying, "Hehe, I'm fine, not dead yet!"
Jiang Bao pointed at my chest and asked, " Brother Jiang Ling, what is that thing on you?"
I had been too focused on saving Jiang Bao to notice anything unusual about myself. Now, hearing his question, I quickly looked down at my chest.
"Eh? This is the talisman my master gave me!" I saw the jade pendant hanging from my chest emitting a faint Golden Light, with a warm current flowing into my body, replenishing my internal mana.
The Old Witch was also drawn to the jade pendant. She paused the Evil Spirits momentarily and glanced at me with some trepidation. "I didn't expect you to have such a powerful artifact. It seems you have quite the background!"
Seeing the Old Witch's expression, Jiang Bao immediately boasted, "Old hag, our master is the owner of Spirit Ghost Street. You still have time to let us go!"
"The owner of Spirit Ghost Street?!" The Old Witch muttered under her breath, gripping her staff tightly, her expression wavering. After a moment of silence, she finally made up her mind and said ominously, "Things have come to this point; I have no way out! As long as I kill you and extinguish your souls, no one will know it was me! Not even your master can find me!"
The Old Witch's expression turned ferocious as she swung her staff and shouted, "Kill them!"
With her murderous intent unleashed, as soon as she finished speaking, all the Evil Spirits on Grave Hill sprang into action. Even the dark clouds above Grave Hill surged downward.
A fierce wind whipped up on Grave Hill, filled with the howls of Evil Spirits that sent chills down my spine.
Seeing the swarm of Evil Spirits rushing toward us, my heart felt like it was about to stop. I swallowed hard and then removed the jade pendant from around my neck, holding it above my head. I turned to Jiang Bao and said, "Quickly hide behind me and hold on tight!"
Jiang Bao nodded without hesitation and wrapped his arms around my waist.
"I hope this talisman from my master works!" I glanced at the jade pendant in my hand, feeling uncertain. As the group of Evil Spirits closed in on us, I quickly infused my internal mana into the pendant.
Once infused with mana, the pendant immediately formed a golden barrier that enveloped both me and Jiang Bao.
Jiang Bao touched the golden shield on his body, furrowing his brow with concern. " Brother Jiang Ling, this shield looks so thin! Is it reliable?"
I shook my head. "I don't know either; it's my first time using this talisman!"
Just as I finished speaking, a swarm of Evil Spirits charged at us, clawing and scratching at the shield. However, they were immediately bounced back. Seeing this, both Jiang Bao and I let out a long sigh of relief.
But the good moment didn't last long. More and more Evil Spirits rushed toward us, and I could feel my internal energy beginning to wane. I watched as the golden shield shook under the impact of the Evil Spirits, and fine cracks began to appear all over its surface.
After about a minute, my face turned pale. I felt that my internal energy was nearly depleted, and the golden shield was now covered in a web of cracks.
Taking a deep breath, I turned to Jiang Bao and forced a smile. "Jiang Bao, we might be in trouble!"
Jiang Bao nodded with a grin, patting my shoulder. " Brother Jiang Ling, it's okay! Don't push yourself too hard!"
I nodded helplessly and stopped channeling more energy into the jade pendant. Suddenly, the golden shield emitted a series of crisp sounds before being shattered by the onslaught of Evil Spirits, breaking into countless fragments.
Seeing the golden shield shatter, the Old Witch let out a sinister laugh. "Ha ha! You will die now!"
As soon as her words fell, a dark mass of Evil Spirits surged toward me and Jiang Bao.
