I took a careful look at the figure before me and realized it was a gaunt old woman. She wore a long black robe and leaned on a cane, giving off an eerie and terrifying vibe that made me feel uncomfortable.
"You must be Jiang Ling! Thanks to the kindness of those in the underworld, everyone calls me the Old Witch!" The old woman turned to face me, revealing a smile that looked more grotesque than friendly.
"Old Witch?" I frowned and muttered under my breath. To get a better look at her, I focused on her face. That’s when I noticed her eyes were completely white, as if she had cataracts. Logically, she shouldn’t be able to see me.
I tried to recall anyone I had met before, but I realized I didn’t recognize the Old Witch at all; I hadn’t even heard of her. Yet she had just spoken my name, which startled me. I quickly took a few steps back and asked warily, "Old Witch, how do you know my name?"
"Haha, it seems you really are Jiang Ling," the Old Witch laughed at my question and began to approach me with her cane. "Just now, I saw someone named Jiang Bao. He told me that someone named Jiang Ling would come looking for him!"
Hearing her explanation eased my tension slightly, but I didn’t want to get entangled with her any further. So I asked, "Old Witch, where is this Jiang Bao now?"
The Old Witch pointed towards the eastern side of Grave Hill and said, "That kid seems to have chased something over there. Let me take you to find him!"
After saying that, she started walking toward the east side of Grave Hill with her cane. Perhaps due to her vision issues, she stumbled over some fragments of Wangchuan Stone and fell.
"Ouch! That hurts! Kid, come help me!" The Old Witch cried out as she landed on the shards of Wangchuan Stone. I saw a gash appear on her forehead with blood oozing out.
I glanced at the Old Witch and without hesitation walked over to help her up, asking with concern, "Old Witch, are you okay?"
"Brother Jiang Ling, no! Don’t touch her!" Just then, I heard Jiang Bao's voice ahead of me. I looked up to see him fighting three Black Cats while holding a Peach Wood Sword.
However, Jiang Bao didn’t seem to be in good shape; his clothes were torn and his arms were covered in blood, looking quite disheveled.
Upon hearing Jiang Bao's warning, I sensed something was off. So I quickly stepped back and decisively distanced myself from the Old Witch.
"Oh, so that kid actually came here!" The Old Witch hadn’t expected Jiang Bao's appearance. After seeing me retreat, she got up from the ground with some regret and said, "I was hoping to deal with both of you easily; it looks like I'll have to use some real skills now!"
After finishing her words, the Old Witch gripped her cane tightly and began muttering incantations under her breath. Her aura grew darker and more sinister, resembling an evil sorceress from a movie.
Jiang Bao was entangled with the three Black Cats and had sustained more injuries; he was struggling to hold on. He shouted at me desperately, "Brother Jiang Ling! Come help me! I can’t hold on much longer!"
"I’m here!" I heard Jiang Bao's voice and immediately ran towards him. As for the Old Witch in front of me, she was in the middle of casting a spell, so I didn’t dare to interrupt her recklessly and had no plans to deal with her just yet.
I reached Jiang Bao's side, realizing that I had rushed out without bringing any talismans. I shouted to him, "Jiang Bao, toss me a Peach Wood Sword!"
" Brother Jiang Ling, catch!" Jiang Bao nodded. He kicked a Black Cat out of the way and quickly threw me the Peach Wood Sword he was holding, then pulled another one from his waist pouch.
I caught the Peach Wood Sword and immediately swung it at the nearest Black Cat. The Black Cat noticed my attack and dodged to avoid my strike.
Seizing the opportunity, I dashed back to Jiang Bao, and we stood back to back, keeping a wary eye on the three Black Cats.
I opened my Yin-Yang Eyes and looked at the Black Cats, discovering that their aura was exactly the same as that of the evil spirit we had faced before. My brows furrowed as I asked, "Jiang Bao, what’s going on?"
Leaning against me, Jiang Bao let out a sigh, wiped the sweat from his forehead, and pointed at the Old Witch not far away. " Brother Jiang Ling, these Black Cats are transformed from evil spirits; they were all released by that old hag!"
I turned to meet Jiang Bao's gaze and frowned. "She can’t be the one who raised evil spirits in our village, can she?"
Jiang Bao nodded. "When I came out from Spirit Ghost Street, I saw her fall to the ground, so I went over to help her. As a result, she cast an Evil Spell on me, clouding my mind, and I ended up telling her everything that happened on Grave Hill!"
"When that old hag heard that we destroyed her Wangchuan Stone, she immediately wanted to kill me! She planned to feed my flesh and blood to the evil spirits she raised!"
Hearing Jiang Bao's words made me swallow nervously. If it hadn’t been for his warning earlier, I would have fallen into the Old Witch's trap. The thought of being devoured by these Black Cats sent chills down my spine.
I glanced at Jiang Bao and asked in confusion, "Didn’t you say the Old Witch wanted to feed you to her cats? How come you’re still fine?"
Jiang Bao patted my shoulder with a smile. " Brother Jiang Ling, that's thanks to you! Just as the Old Witch was about to act, she heard your voice from down the mountain. So she cast an Evil Spell on me and tossed me aside while leaving these three Evil Cats to watch over me."
"The Old Witch originally planned to capture you first before dealing with us together. Unfortunately for her, she underestimated me; she didn’t expect I would break her Evil Spell!"
Seeing Jiang Bao’s proud expression made me unable to resist asking, "When did you get so strong? You can break an Evil Spell now?"
Jiang Bao scratched his head sheepishly and pointed at a spot not far away. " Brother Jiang Ling, just take a look for yourself!"
I looked in the direction that Jiang Bao pointed and noticed a dozen copper coins scattered on the ground, along with a long red thread. Seeing the red thread, I instinctively asked, "Is that why these copper coins were taken from the Money Sword?"
The Money Sword was a powerful artifact imbued with Yang Qi, used to dispel Evil Spells effortlessly. However, doing so felt like a waste. The Money Sword was too precious; using one meant losing one, while there were other methods to dispel Evil Spells.
" Brother Jiang Ling, let's deal with these three Evil Cats first. We can talk about it later," Jiang Bao said, clearly feeling guilty. He swung his Peach Wood Sword at the Evil Cat in front of him, deliberately avoiding my question.
Seeing Jiang Bao's expression, I immediately guessed that what lay on the ground was indeed the Money Sword. My anger flared up, and I chased after Jiang Bao with my Peach Wood Sword, shouting, "Jiang Bao, didn't you say you returned all the Money Swords to me? How come you still have one!"
Realizing he couldn't escape, Jiang Bao scratched the back of his head sheepishly and replied with a smile, " Brother Jiang Ling, I just kept one Money Sword for self-defense. I promise this is the last one!"
I shot him a glare and snorted coldly. "You better watch out. Once I take care of these Evil Cats, I'm going to deal with you properly!"
I glanced at the Old Witch and noticed her aura growing stronger; she was about to complete her Spell. Reluctantly, I decided to let Jiang Bao off the hook for now and swung my Peach Wood Sword at the Evil Cat in front of me.
After more than ten minutes, Jiang Bao and I finally eliminated the three Evil Cats, but I had acquired several Blood Demon marks on my body.
I looked over at the Old Witch not far away and saw dark clouds forming above her head. She was enveloped in Eerie Energy, looking extremely terrifying.
Jiang Bao stood beside me, his smile gone. He furrowed his brow and said worriedly, " Brother Jiang Ling, this situation doesn't look good! Should we make a run for it?"
