As soon as my voice fell, the copper coins on the ground emitted a golden light and began to vibrate incessantly. After about ten seconds, all the coins shattered into fragments, cascading down onto the path I had laid out, forming a shimmering golden road.
Once the Golden Path took shape, a chilling wind suddenly swept across Grave Hill, and an oppressive aura surged forth from beneath the Golden Path.
Soon after, a mass of dark clouds enveloped the Golden Path, and a Figure emerged from within. The Figure held a chain in his hand and had a somewhat ferocious expression. He was clad in a long black robe and wore a tall hat with an ominous character inscribed in its center.
When a Yang Realm mage opens the Yin Soul Path, the Underworld sends a Ghost Messenger to guard it, preventing Evil Spirits from invading. The man before me was likely the Ghost Messenger assigned to oversee the Yin Soul Path.
The Ghost Messenger glanced at us and spoke arrogantly, "I am Gao Cheng, sent by the Lord to guard the Yin Soul Path. Who opened it?"
I stepped forward and cupped my fists in respect. "It was I who opened the Yin Soul Path. I ask you, esteemed Ghost Messenger, to collect these Wraiths and allow them to enter the Underworld for reincarnation!"
Gao Cheng looked at the Wraiths above and nodded expressionlessly. "No problem! You bring those Wraiths over here!"
The Ghost Messenger could not leave the Golden Path he stood upon due to his duty to guard it, which I understood well.
I signaled to Jiang Bao, who immediately led the Wraiths toward us. After about ten seconds, Jiang Bao reached the side of the Yin Soul Path, with the group of Wraiths trailing behind him.
"That's enough! Stop right there!" Gao Cheng gestured for Jiang Bao to halt. He unwrapped the chain that was coiled around him and threw it toward the Wraiths above, shouting, "Soulless spirits, let this chain guide you; come to me!"
The chain in Gao Cheng's hand was a Soul Snare used by Ghost Messengers to capture souls; it was a specialized artifact from the Underworld designed to subdue spirits.
Seeing the Soul Snare flying toward them, the Wraiths sensed an intense danger and scattered in all directions, trying to evade its grasp.
"Hmph! You think you can escape? Come back!" Gao Cheng snorted coldly. He swung the chain in his hand, and astonishingly, the Soul Snare seemed to have eyes of its own as it ensnared each of the fleeing Wraiths one by one.
"Come to me!" Once Gao Cheng confirmed that no Wraith had escaped, he pulled forcefully on the chain and reeled it back in.
I watched as Gao Cheng wrapped the Soul Snare around himself again; those Wraiths had shrunk down to merely thumb-sized figures, all hanging helplessly from the Soul Snare.
Gao Cheng glanced at me and said expressionlessly, "I have captured the Wraiths. If there's nothing else, I will return to the Underworld now!"
"Safe travels, esteemed Ghost Messenger!" I bowed my hands in farewell to Gao Cheng.
Gao Cheng nodded, his right foot stomping down on the Golden Path, causing all the copper coins scattered on the ground to fly toward him. He opened his mouth and swallowed all the coins.
"The taste isn't bad!" Gao Cheng said with satisfaction, letting out a hearty burp, and finally a smile appeared on his face.
"Gate of the Underworld, open!" Gao Cheng pressed his right hand against the ground and formed a strange hand seal with his left. As soon as he finished speaking, a black abyss appeared beneath him, positioned exactly over the previous Yin Soul Path.
I felt a heavy aura of death emanating from the abyss in front of me. Curiosity piqued, I opened my Yin-Yang Eyes to look inside.
"Why can't I see anything?!" I frowned, realizing that my Yin-Yang Eyes couldn't perceive anything within the abyss. I touched my ear and said expectantly, "Is this really the Gate of the Underworld? I've never been to the Underworld; I must go there with my master someday!"
My master visited the Underworld two or three times each month, but he had never taken me along or even shared any details about it. Thus, I was always filled with curiosity about the Underworld.
I saw Gao Cheng standing above the Gate of the Underworld, his body beginning to sink down. In five or six seconds at most, he would completely enter the Gate.
"Meow~~" Just as Gao Cheng's body sank halfway, the Evil Cat, which had been fighting Lu Jie, suddenly dashed over, trying to slip into the Gate of the Underworld.
"Everyone be careful!" Lu Jie noticed Evil Cat's intention. Her expression changed drastically as she shouted loudly to us.
Lu Jie’s warning came a bit late; by the time she shouted, Black Cat had already rushed in front of Gao Cheng.
"Hmph, a mere Evil Cat dares to act recklessly before me!" Gao Cheng snorted coldly. A powerful aura radiated from him as he released his Soul Snare and fixed a murderous gaze on the Evil Cat before him.
Jiang Bao and I were pushed back a few steps by the overwhelming aura released by Gao Cheng, struggling to catch our breath. I stared at Gao Cheng in shock and exclaimed, "Wow, how is this Ghost Messenger so strong!"
"Lord Ghost Messenger, spare me!" The Evil Cat was weaker than I was. Upon sensing Gao Cheng's icy killing intent, it was already terrified and cowering on the ground, trembling uncontrollably and unable to move.
Gao Cheng ignored Evil Cat's pleas for mercy. He swung his Soul Snare swiftly toward Evil Cat.
"Don't!" The Evil Cat felt a life-and-death crisis emanating from the Soul Snare. A glimmer of despair flashed in its eyes as it desperately twisted its body in an attempt to evade Gao Cheng's attack.
The Evil Cat's struggle was entirely futile; the Soul Snare struck it directly, transforming it into a cloud of black smoke.
As that cloud of smoke appeared, it took advantage of Gao Cheng's momentary distraction and immediately fled into the distance.
Jiang Bao gave Lu Jie a glance, and he immediately chased after the swirling black smoke, saying, "Jie, let's hurry and catch up. We can't let that Evil Cat escape!"
Gao Cheng watched the fleeing black smoke, his expression unchanged as he let out a surprised sound. "Oh? The evil spirit actually cultivated a second life! Hmph, consider yourself lucky!"
After Gao Cheng finished speaking, he turned to look at me. More precisely, he glanced at the Seven Star Mysterious Dragon Sword in my hand. He said casually, "Zi, I didn't expect you to be the heir of the Seven Star Mysterious Dragon Sword. Unfortunately, you're too weak! I advise you to return the Seven Star Mysterious Dragon Sword to your master during this year's Ghost Festival. Otherwise, you'll die a terrible death!"
With that, Gao Cheng's body had completely entered the Gate of the Underworld. Immediately after, the abyss on the ground vanished without a trace.
I stared at the spot where Gao Cheng had disappeared, frowning. I thought to myself that Gao Cheng must have recognized the Seven Star Mysterious Dragon Sword from when he saw my master use it in the Underworld. But how did he know I would go to my master during the Ghost Festival?
"Could there be secrets here that I don't know about?" I muttered to myself while touching my ear.
Just as I was lost in thought, Jiang Bao and the others had already caught up with the black smoke. The smoke rolled and transformed back into the form of the Evil Cat.
A demon cat that has cultivated its essence can have nine lives, but this Evil Cat clearly hadn't reached that level; its current strength had only allowed it to cultivate two lives at most.
The Evil Cat had already lost one life to the Ghost Messenger and now appeared extremely weak, looking far less formidable than before.
Jiang Bao brandished his Peach Wood Sword in front of the Evil Cat and coldly declared, "Evil Cat, this is your time to die!"
