I opened my Yin-Yang Eyes and walked towards the grave, glancing around the area, but there was still no sign of any Evil Spirit present.
As I approached the grave, I glanced at the tombstone standing in front of it, and my expression instantly turned strange. I turned to Jiang Bao and asked, "Jiang Bao, there aren't any villagers with the surname Wang in our village, right?"
Jiang Bao nodded and replied, "Everyone in our village has the surname Jiang; there are no Wangs! Brother Jiang Ling, why do you suddenly ask this?"
I pointed at the tombstone and said somewhat awkwardly, "You should come over and take a look!"
The tombstone only had four characters inscribed on it: Wang Pan's Tomb. There were no names of descendants or the date of death; it simply read Wang Pan's Tomb.
Upon seeing the inscription, Jiang Bao froze for three or four seconds. Once he regained his composure, he firmly stated, "Impossible! Only the elders from our village are buried on this Grave Hill. Besides, there are no Wangs in our village!"
I nodded and circled around the grave, saying, "So this grave shouldn't exist! But here it is; something strange is definitely going on! It seems we haven't made a mistake!"
Jiang Bao furrowed his brow as he looked at the grave in front of him and said, " Brother Jiang Ling, the problem lies with this grave. Shouldn't we dig it up first?"
I shot Jiang Bao a glare and said, "Jiang Bao, digging up someone else's ancestral grave for no reason could bring down lightning! If you're not afraid of being struck by lightning, then go ahead and dig!"
When I dealt with the snake demon before, I had dug up a grave, but that was because I knew there was a snake demon sealed beneath it, not a dead person.
The situation now was different; this was Grave Hill, where many graves didn't even have tombstones. What if someone just placed the tombstone incorrectly? If it really contained the remains of an elder from our village and we acted rashly, when their descendants came looking for us later, we would have no way to explain ourselves.
After thinking for a moment, Jiang Bao also felt that this wasn't a good idea. He scratched his head awkwardly and asked, " Brother Jiang Ling, what should we do now?"
I pointed at the tombstone in front of us and said, "Don't you find the material of this tombstone a bit strange?"
"If I'm not mistaken, this tombstone should be made of Wangchuan Stone!" I placed my hand on the tombstone and immediately felt an uncomfortable chill radiating from it. This confirmed my suspicion.
In the Underworld, there flows a river known as the River of Forgetfulness, its waters imbued with extreme yin energy. The stones along its banks become tainted by the river's water, and after a century, they transform into what is known as Wangchuan Stone.
"Wangchuan Stone? How could it possibly appear in the Yang Realm? This item is forbidden from being brought out! Brother Jiang Ling, you must be mistaken!" Jiang Bao exclaimed. He immediately stepped closer to take a look and placed his hand on the gravestone.
As Jiang Bao sensed something unusual about the gravestone, his expression changed dramatically. He quickly withdrew his hand and said, "It really is Wangchuan Stone!"
I moved around to the back of the gravestone and noticed that something seemed to be carved at the very bottom, though it was obscured by weeds. I hurriedly crouched down and pushed aside the weeds in front of the gravestone, finally revealing what was carved there.
It was a vividly depicted cat, but its eyes were closed, giving it the appearance of being asleep.
When Jiang Bao saw the cat on the gravestone, his face paled. Uncertainly, he asked, " Brother Jiang Ling, could someone be raising an evil spirit here?"
Evil spirits are artificially created entities that differ entirely from the monsters of the Underworld; they arise from things that were once lifeless.
For example, if a portrait is hung in a temple and subjected to the recitations of a High Monk for an extended period, it can gain sentience and transform into an evil spirit.
Due to their unique nature, evil spirits are often undetectable by ordinary means, which is why we had not found them before.
I stood up from the ground and glanced at the cat on the gravestone, feeling somewhat regretful as I said, "If this Wangchuan Stone were placed in a temple, it might give birth to a spirit cat. What a pity! This cat is destined to become a malevolent spirit!"
Evil spirits can be categorized into good and evil based on their environment. The cat before us was carved from Wangchuan Stone and buried in this graveyard; once it harnessed the Eerie Energy within Wangchuan Stone for its cultivation, it would inevitably become a malicious evil spirit.
Once an evil spirit completes its cultivation, it begins to kill within a ten-mile radius and feeds on the blood and flesh of living people to grow stronger.
If we hadn't discovered this in time, it wouldn't be long before deaths began occurring in this area.
The thought of what could happen filled Jiang Bao with rage. He kicked the gravestone in front of him and angrily declared, " Brother Jiang Ling, who is raising an evil spirit here? They are simply asking for death!"
I shook my head and said, "No matter who it is, since he managed to get such a large piece of Wangchuan Stone, he must be no simple character!"
I cast a cold glance at the Wangchuan Stone in front of me and said seriously, "But this person actually dares to raise evil spirits on our ancestral grave. I don't care who he is; I will definitely not let him go!"
Upon hearing my words, Jiang Bao patted his chest and said fiercely, " Brother Jiang Ling, don't worry! I will find out who did this! When the time comes, I'll notify you, and we brothers will take him down together!"
"I'll leave this to you! Let's deal with this evil spirit first to avoid any long-lasting troubles!" I nodded and swung the Seven Star Mysterious Dragon Sword at the cat perched on the tombstone.
The sword struck the Wangchuan Stone with a loud clash of iron and stone. My wrist was jolted painfully, but the Wangchuan Stone remained completely unaffected.
Jiang Bao looked at me in disbelief and coughed lightly. " Brother Jiang Ling, we should just deal with this evil spirit. Why are you attacking the Wangchuan Stone?"
I shook my numbed wrist and awkwardly touched my ear. "I just don't have any experience dealing with evil spirits, so I thought I'd try something!"
Jiang Bao shot me a look and turned to Lu Jie, who was sitting on the ground. He then said proudly, " Brother Jiang Ling, my Jie understands a lot of things; she should know how to deal with evil spirits!"
I kicked Jiang Bao in the rear and said irritably, "Stop showing off and hurry up and call Lu Jie over!"
After a while, Jiang Bao returned with a reluctant Lu Jie. She glanced at the Wangchuan Stone before saying flatly, "I know how to deal with this evil spirit, but I have one condition!"
