I returned home with Jiang Bao and saw Uncle and the others watching television.
"Uncle, I'm back!" I greeted them with a smile, expecting them to be pleasantly surprised. To my surprise, they merely nodded and then ignored me.
When Uncle noticed Lu Jie next to Jiang Bao, his face lit up with joy. He stood up from his chair and walked right past me, taking Lu Jie's hand. "Jie, you finally made it! Your aunt and I have been waiting for you for a long time! Come, come, have you eaten yet? We saved some food for you!"
"Uncle, Auntie, I haven't eaten yet!" Lu Jie replied with a gentle smile, looking just like any normal girl, completely different from how she had appeared when I first met her.
Uncle led Lu Jie to the dining table while Auntie cheerfully rushed into the kitchen to bring out dishes. They all sat there chatting happily, while I awkwardly stood by, feeling forgotten.
Jiang Bao served Lu Jie a bowl of rice and then remembered me. He turned to look at me and asked, "By the way, Jiang Ling, have you eaten?"
"Not yet!" I shyly touched my ear; I had already prepared a bowl and chopsticks for myself while they were chatting with Lu Jie.
After dinner, Uncle and Auntie pulled Lu Jie to watch television together. I discreetly kicked Jiang Bao's leg and gave him a look that said, "Jiang Bao, let's go for a walk!"
Jiang Bao nodded. He walked beside me as we stepped outside.
It was around ten o'clock at night; the stars were twinkling in the sky, and a cool breeze blew by, making the air feel fresh.
We sat on a stone outside. At that moment, Jiang Bao took out a cigarette and offered it to me. "Brother Jiang Ling, why are you back today?"
I shook my head and didn't take the cigarette from him. "Jiang Bao, I've noticed you've changed! You used to not smoke!"
"People change!" Jiang Bao lit the cigarette and took a deep puff before curiously asking, "Brother Jiang Ling, how did you meet Lu Jie?"
I was also curious about Lu Jie's background, so I recounted what had just happened and asked, "Jiang Bao, what exactly is your girlfriend's story?"
"Look into my eyes," Jiang Bao sighed, " Brother Jiang Ling, if I don't explain clearly, will you still take action against Lu Jie?"
"Exactly! If Lu Jie has unclear origins, I will eliminate her!" I frowned and locked eyes with Jiang Bao, completely unprepared for his direct question.
In today's society, there are many demons and monsters living among humans. These creatures cultivate by absorbing the essence of moonlight and have never harmed humans; they are all registered on Spirit Ghost Street.
If an Evil Spirit causes chaos in the human realm, it will be removed from the list on Spirit Ghost Street and hunted down by its guardians. If Lu Jie is not registered on Spirit Ghost Street, I wouldn't feel comfortable with her staying close to Jiang Bao.
Upon hearing my response, Jiang Bao took a puff of his cigarette and smiled, "Lu Jie is actually the disciple of the owner of Shop No. 4 on Spirit Ghost Street. Are you reassured now?"
"Shop No. 4?!" I was stunned by Jiang Bao's words. The owner of Shop No. 4 is a Zombie King who has cultivated for nearly a thousand years, and his strength surpasses even that of my master.
The White-haired Zombie I injured seven years ago is a direct relative of the owner of Shop No. 4. My master was forced to place a Round Seal on me due to his threats and expelled me from Spirit Ghost Street.
However, since Lu Jie is the disciple of the owner of Shop No. 4, it makes sense why her body is so peculiar. I touched my ear and curiously asked, "Jiang Bao, how did you meet such an impressive girl?"
Jiang Bao glanced at me and shyly replied, "After your master expelled you from Spirit Ghost Street, I followed Cheng Bo to handle matters in the shop. Later, I ran into Lu Jie while working on a few tasks together, and we got to know each other. Then I discovered she was studying at the same university as me, so we started spending time together and gradually became closer!"
I rolled my eyes at Jiang Bao and punched him lightly in the chest, saying, "You really hit the jackpot!"
Jiang Bao chuckled awkwardly and scratched the back of his head. " Brother Jiang Ling, what brings you back this time? It’s not to deal with that Drought Demon in the village, is it?"
I shook my head, frowning. "I'm just back for a vacation to grab some talismans I left at home. But could it really be that the drought in the village is caused by the Drought Demon?!"
Jiang Bao nodded. "Actually, Lu Jie and I returned to the village because we received a mission specifically to deal with this Drought Demon! Now that you're here too, it would be great if you could help us out!"
I looked at Jiang Bao with a deathly glare and said, "What the hell, are you two crazy? With your pathetic skills, do you really think you can take on the Drought Demon?"
The Drought Demon was a formidable evil entity, especially one bold enough to cause trouble in the human realm. It had at least a hundred years of cultivation under its belt. Even I wouldn't dare to confront such a Drought Demon lightly.
Jiang Bao scratched the back of his head sheepishly and laughed, " Brother Jiang Ling, you really underestimate us! We have plenty of tricks up our sleeves!"
I scoffed, "What tricks could you possibly have?"
" Brother Jiang Ling, just so you know, when I step out, you better not get angry!" Jiang Bao said.
Hearing his words, an ominous premonition washed over me. I furrowed my brow and nodded, "Alright, let’s hear it!"
Jiang Bao stood up from the ground and slowly distanced himself from me. " Brother Jiang Ling, all twenty-seven of your Money Swords that you left at home? I've taken them all! I've already used eleven and gave ten to Lu Jie. Now there are only six left. Those six Money Swords are one of my trump cards against the Drought Demon!"
"What?!" My blood boiled when I realized that Jiang Bao had hoarded all my Money Swords. Each one was precious; I had secretly taken all twenty-seven from my master.
I usually didn't dare to use them, keeping one for self-defense. The last time I faced that snake demon in the Cemetery, I had no choice but to use it. And now, all twenty-seven Money Swords had been taken by Jiang Bao.
I grabbed my left sandal and charged at Jiang Bao, shouting, "Damn it, Jiang Bao! Stop right there! I promise I won't kill you!"
