I noticed that the headlights of the Shuttle weren't particularly bright, so I spoke up, "Driver, you can't be seeing things wrong, can you?"
The driver shook his head, clearly confident. "I see it very clearly; there's no mistake!"
"Could it be that I hit that girl?" The driver's face turned pale, and he quickly opened the car door, grabbing a flashlight as he stepped outside.
I saw the elderly passengers and the Child in the vehicle looking somewhat panicked. Furrowing my brow, I quickly reassured them, "Everyone stay calm; just stay in the car. I'll go with the driver to check it out!"
After saying that, I turned on the flashlight on my phone and followed him down from the Shuttle. Since we were on a rural road, there were no other vehicles in sight, and no nearby villages, making the surroundings eerily quiet except for a few streetlights glowing.
As soon as I stepped off the Shuttle, I caught a faint whiff of Corpse Qi lingering in the air, instantly filling me with a sense of foreboding.
I hurriedly searched for the driver's figure and found him crouched on the ground to the left of the Shuttle, pressing his hands against a girl's chest. I rushed over and shouted, "Driver, what are you doing?!"
"This girl is the one I just saw; I think I hit her with the car. I'm trying to perform CPR like they do on TV!" The driver was sweating profusely, his hands frantically pushing down on the girl's chest.
"Let me handle this!" I had learned how to do this in school, so I knelt beside the girl, preparing to administer aid. At that moment, the driver took out his phone as if calling for an ambulance.
I took a closer look at the girl beside me and noticed she was dressed in white. Her complexion was as pale as paper; she hardly resembled a Living Person.
Frowning, I inhaled deeply near her and realized that the earlier Corpse Qi was indeed emanating from her.
"You’re not a Living Person!" My expression darkened as I bit my finger to draw blood and wrote a Command Character in my palm before pressing both hands firmly against her chest.
"Hehe, didn't expect you to see through me!" The girl on the ground opened her eyes. Wiping away a trace of blood from her mouth, she flashed me an eerie smile and said, "My name is Lu Jie; what's your name?"
"I'm Jiang Ling. What's wrong?" I instinctively replied. Before I could process what was happening, Lu Jie shouted loudly at the driver who was still on the phone, "Uncle! Help! This person named Jiang Ling is trying to assault me!"
Hearing Lu Jie’s voice, the driver quickly turned around. When he saw that Lu Jie seemed unharmed, he hung up the phone and rushed over to pull me away.
The driver helped Lu Jie up and asked with concern, "Miss, are you alright?"
Lu Jie pretended to be frightened, hiding behind the driver and pointing at me, saying, "Uncle, this guy just tried to harass me. You have to protect me!"
The driver patted Lu Jie on the shoulder and said, "Don't be afraid, miss. Leave this to me!"
Hearing their conversation left me speechless, but I couldn't directly expose Lu Jie's identity. Even if I did, the driver wouldn't necessarily believe me.
The driver stepped in front of me and lowered his voice, saying, "Buddy, thank you for saving that girl earlier! But it seems she misunderstood you. Don't take it to heart."
I nodded and smiled, replying, "Don't worry, driver. I'm not that angry!"
The driver thanked me a few times before leading me toward the shuttle. As we approached Lu Jie, the driver cheerfully asked, "Miss, where are you headed? Do you want to catch the shuttle?"
Lu Jie shot me a glare before smiling at the driver and saying, "Uncle, I'm going to Qing'an Village. It's perfect; I can take your shuttle!"
The driver chuckled and said, "What a coincidence! Let's get on board together!"
The driver led Lu Jie onto the shuttle while I followed behind them. When the driver wasn't paying attention, I took out my phone and turned on the flashlight to shine it at Lu Jie's feet.
"How could this be?!" I realized that there was not an empty space beneath her feet but a shadow.
I had touched Lu Jie's body earlier and found it warm, unlike a typical corpse that would be cold. Now she even had a shadow—completely indistinguishable from a living person. This was too strange.
"Could I have seen it wrong?" This was the first time I encountered such a situation and had no idea what was happening. I took a deep breath and noticed a faint scent of Corpse Qi in the air.
"I need to see what you're really about!" I frowned and followed Lu Jie onto the shuttle, sitting next to her.
Lu Jie glared at me warily and said, "You're Jiang Ling, right? If you dare to lay a hand on me, I can guarantee you'll die a terrible death!"
I rolled my eyes at Lu Jie and replied, "You don't have much skill but sure talk big! Once we get off this shuttle, I'll deal with you!"
I bit my index finger and drew a line of Palm Thunder in the palm of my left hand, then showed it directly to Lu Jie. In a low voice, I warned, "If you dare to have any ill intentions, I won't hold back!"
Lu Jie glanced at the Palm Thunder in my palm with some trepidation. She snorted coldly, turned her head to look out the window, and ignored me.
Soon, the shuttle arrived at the entrance of Qing'an Village. The driver parked the shuttle, and I followed behind Lu Jie as we got off.
After watching the shuttle drive away, I immediately stepped in front of Lu Jie and said in a harsh tone, "Lu Jie, who exactly are you? What is your purpose for coming to Qing'an Village?"
"What does it matter to you who I am! Don't think I'm really afraid of you! There were people around just now, so I couldn't make a move. Now that we're alone, let's see how I kill you!" Lu Jie’s face twisted into a ferocious expression as she pulled out a white Bone Knife from her body and lunged at me.
"Damn, that's impressive!" Feeling the murderous intent from Lu Jie’s Bone Knife, I was taken aback and quickly stepped to the left to dodge her attack.
"It seems like I can't hold back any longer!" Realizing I had underestimated Lu Jie's strength, I reached for my backpack on my back, preparing to take out a talisman to deal with her.
"What the hell is this?!" I glanced at the toothbrush in my hand and suddenly remembered that my backpack only contained some daily necessities; I hadn't brought any talismans.
Lu Jie looked at the toothbrush in my hand, first stunned, then burst into laughter while holding her stomach. "Haha, Jiang Ling, are you planning to use a toothbrush against me!"
"To deal with you, I don't even need a toothbrush!" Feeling somewhat embarrassed, I scratched my ear and stuffed the toothbrush back into my backpack.
