"Finally done!" I sighed in relief as I saw both Thunder and Liu Fengxing disappear. I had just used the Thunder Talisman, and my body was completely drained of energy. My legs gave way, and I collapsed onto the ground.
It felt as if the magical energy I had accumulated over seven years had been completely emptied. Shaking my head inwardly, I forced a bitter smile and said, "I didn't expect the Thunder Talisman to consume so much energy. It seems like I'll have no chance to summon thunder again in the future!"
After resting for a while and regaining some strength, I stood up. It was time to clean up the mess.
I took out my phone and called Lan Yue to inform him that everything was over and to send away the surrounding police.
Once I hung up, I walked over to where Liu Fengxing had turned to ashes. Although he had been struck down by lightning, his inner core should still be intact.
"What the hell, it stinks!" As I approached the pile of ashes, I noticed a large charred area on the ground, emanating a foul burnt smell.
Holding my nose, I used my Peach Wood Sword to sift through the ashes. After three or four minutes of searching, I finally found Liu Fengxing's inner core.
The larger a demon's inner core, the longer it had cultivated and the more powerful it was. Liu Fengxing had only just reached a century of cultivation, so his inner core was not particularly large—about the size of a thumb.
"This is ridiculous!" Looking at the inner core that emitted demonic energy, disappointment washed over me. Shaking my head, I pinched it between two fingers and pulled it out from the ashes.
"What the hell, there's still electricity!" As I held the inner core, I suddenly felt a current flowing from it. Caught off guard, I was jolted by the shock, causing my whole body to tremble and my hair to stand on end. It seemed there was still a trace of lightning energy lingering in the core.
"What a piece of junk!" Once I regained my composure, I angrily tossed the inner core onto the ground and stomped on it several times.
" Brother Jiang Ling, what are you doing here? Why is your hair standing up?" Lan Yue suddenly appeared in front of me, looking at me curiously.
"Nothing!" Unsure if Lan Yue had seen me get shocked earlier, I awkwardly scratched my ear and touched the ground with my hand to release any residual electricity. My hair returned to its normal state.
I brushed the dust off my hands and looked at Lan Yue, asking, "Lan Yue, didn't I tell you to take those police officers away? Why are you still here?"
Lan Yue glanced at me and smiled, "Brother Jiang Ling, those police officers are adults; we don't need to worry about them! Besides, I saw a lightning strike here just now and was a bit worried about you, so I came to check."
Hearing Lan Yue's words made me feel a bit touched. However, he followed up with a comment that completely ruined the moment. He pointed at my hair and laughed, "Brother Jiang Ling, your hair was standing up just now. Did you really get struck by lightning?"
I knew Lan Yue was joking, but I couldn't help but roll my eyes at him and said, "Get lost!"
I glanced at the inner core on the ground and estimated it was already out of power. I took out a talisman from my pocket and wrapped the inner core in it, preparing to put it away.
At that moment, a hand reached over and snatched the inner core from my grasp. Just as I was about to grab it back, I heard Qu Liang's voice behind me, sounding quite unfriendly. "Jiang Ling, how dare you keep my things for yourself!"
Upon hearing Qu Liang's voice, I immediately recalled the incident where I had attacked her chest earlier. I wasn't sure if she had been fully conscious at that moment. Feeling a bit guilty, I turned around to face her and smiled, "Beautiful Qu, you've misunderstood! I just saw that you weren't awake yet, so I was planning to keep it safe for you temporarily. Now that you're awake, it's only natural for you to take care of it yourself!"
I looked down at Qu Liang's chest and noticed a faint handprint on her clothing. My heart sank as I instinctively glanced at my right hand, which was covered in dirt—likely from when I had been digging the grave.
Seeing my reaction, Lan Yue followed my gaze and spotted the handprint on Qu Liang's chest. In an instant, he connected the dots and gave me a thumbs-up while laughing. "Haha! You know what? I just remembered I have something to do. I'll be leaving now! You two take your time chatting!"
Before leaving, Lan Yue patted my shoulder and gave me an encouraging look. I felt quite embarrassed by his antics but couldn't explain myself.
As Lan Yue walked away, Qu Liang remained silent, inspecting the inner core in her hands. So I scratched my ear and smiled at her. "Beautiful Qu, I've suddenly remembered that I have something to attend to as well. I'll be heading out first!"
"Try leaving first! Do you believe I'll tell your master that you harassed me?" Qu Liang said coldly as she tucked the inner core away.
I awkwardly touched my ear and said with a guilty conscience, "Qu Liang, you can't be unreasonable! The situation was so complicated at that time, I was trying to save you!"
Qu Liang pointed at my nose, snorted coldly, and with a somewhat unnatural expression said, "Hmph, you were trying to save me? Then let me ask you, that snake demon had already come out, why did you take another shot? And you even rubbed me several times!"
"Cough, cough, Beautiful Qu, why don't you handle it then!" I cleared my throat awkwardly. Hearing Qu Liang's words, I knew I couldn't escape this.
It seemed like Qu Liang had been waiting for this moment. Upon hearing my response, a scheming smile appeared on her face. She then extended three fingers and said, "I want you to do three things for me!"
I frowned but nodded anyway. "What three things? Let me hear them first!"
Qu Liang led me to the edge of the grave pit. She pointed at the coffin below and said, "I heard from the snake demon inside me that its older brother has a secret hidden in this coffin. The first thing I want you to do is go down there and find out what that secret is!"
I looked down at the coffin covered in blood; even from above, I could smell a strong stench of blood. Moreover, I could see some pieces of Liu Wanting's flesh inside the coffin, which looked too disgusting.
I frowned and felt a bit queasy. Turning to Qu Liang, I asked, "Beautiful Qu, are you really sure there's a secret down there? To me, that snake demon is probably just lying to you. Why don't you change your request?"
Qu Liang glared at me with an unfriendly tone and said, "Are you going down or not?"
"Fine, I'll go down!" As a man of honor, I dared to take responsibility for my actions. I touched my ear again, steeled myself as I glanced at the coffin below, and then jumped down.
