"Who wants to come in for tea? Feel free to come over!" Zhang Yang stood there in her police uniform, exuding authority as she waved her handcuffs, scaring Tang Zhen and the others away.
I gave her a thumbs up and smiled, "Sister Zhang Yang, you're amazing! You scared off a whole group of people all by yourself."
I exchanged a glance with Lan Yue, who was standing nearby, and said with a grin, "Sister Zhang Yang, I have something else to attend to, so I'll take my leave. You all continue."
"Jiang Ling, wait a moment!" Zhang Yang blocked my path and said, "I need to ask you for a favor!"
"What is it?" I asked.
Zhang Yang led us to the cold drink shop we had just visited, and I took the opportunity to introduce her to Qu Liang.
We sat by the window, and Zhang Yang frowned. "For the past few days, I've been having very strange dreams. I keep dreaming about the same child who comes to play with me."
"At first, it was nothing serious—just playing some children's games, so I didn't think much of it. But last night, that child actually appeared in my dream holding a kitchen knife and wanted to dissect me."
"I woke up in fright. When I turned on the light, I found a kitchen knife on my bed, covered in fresh blood."
"But that knife wasn't from my kitchen. I looked around but didn't see anyone."
Zhang Yang pointed at her stomach and said, "I felt a bit of pain on my abdomen at that moment, so I lifted the blanket to check. That's when I discovered a cut on my stomach."
At this point, Zhang Yang seemed frightened. She paused to take a sip of her drink before continuing, "Jiang Ling, to be honest, I suspect that everything is the doing of that child from my dreams. But I can't find that child, so I wanted to ask you to take a look."
I nodded and used my Yin-Yang Eyes to examine Zhang Yang's body. I noticed that the Eerie Aura surrounding her was even thicker than yesterday.
I had previously thought that the Eerie Aura on Zhang Yang came from the mortuary and would disappear once we dealt with the Spider Demon. Now it seemed I was mistaken.
Lan Yue was sitting across from Zhang Yang. As he listened to her story, he suddenly noticed something shiny caught in her hair.
"Hey? What's this?" Lan Yue reached out and picked up the shiny object, holding it in his palm.
The object was about the size of a fingernail and translucent. When Lan Yue held it up under the sunlight, it sparkled like crystal.
"This is a ghost nail!" I recognized it immediately and said, "Ghost nails are shed from spirits; they belong to the realm of ghosts. If you expose them to sunlight, they will suppress the Eerie Energy within them and emit white smoke until they completely vanish."
As soon as I finished speaking, the ghost nail in Lan Yue's palm began to emit white smoke. In less than a breath's time, the entire ghost nail disappeared completely.
Zhang Yang's face looked a bit pale as she fearfully glanced at me and asked, "Jiang Ling, am I really seeing ghosts?"
I nodded, finishing the chilled cola in my cup in one go. "Sister Zhang Yang, you don't need to worry. With me around, even if the Ghost King comes, I can drive it away in minutes. Take me to where you live!"
I turned to Qu Liang and smiled, asking, "Beautiful Qu, do you want to come along?"
Qu Liang thought for a moment before nodding. "Since I have nothing else to do, I'll go with you to take a look."
Back at the dormitory, I packed the items needed for ghost hunting into my backpack and casually asked Zhang Yang to help me and Lan Yue take a leave of absence.
Originally, I planned to drag Hu Yalong along with us for ghost hunting, but he stubbornly refused, saying he needed to rest after just killing a Spider Demon. In the end, I didn't force him.
"Fatty, this is the Daoist Arts I promised you! Make sure to study it well and ask me if you don't understand anything." I handed Hu Yalong a notebook and whispered in his ear, "These are top-tier Daoist Arts taught by my master. Don't let anyone else see it!"
Hu Yalong eagerly tucked the notebook into his pocket and patted his chest. "Brother Jiang Ling, don't worry! I definitely won't show it to anyone!"
I nodded and pulled Lan Yue out of the classroom. Lan Yue skeptically asked, "Brother Jiang Ling, is that notebook really filled with top-tier Daoist Arts?"
I scratched my ear awkwardly and replied, "Those top-tier Daoist Arts are what I found on Baidu; whether they’re useful or not, I’m not sure."
Lan Yue rolled her eyes at me and gave me a thumbs up. "Brother Jiang Ling, you're amazing!"
The reason I didn't teach Hu Yalong the real Daoist Arts was mainly due to his lack of talent; he wouldn't be able to learn them anyway. So it might be better for him to study some obscure Daoist Arts instead.
After exiting the school gate with Lan Yue, Zhang Yang drove us to her place—a tall eight-story residential building.
The building looked somewhat old. In front of it was a pond, and behind it was a mountain surrounded by flowers and plants; the environment was quite pleasant.
I took a deep breath of fresh air and said with satisfaction, "Sister Zhang Yang, this place has a pretty good environment! The feng shui is great; there's water in front attracting energy and a mountain behind gathering energy! It's a blessed spot for prosperity!"
Zhang Yang smiled and replied, "Jiang Ling, believe it or not, ever since I moved here, my luck has improved significantly. I've cracked several cases in a row."
Zhang Yang lived in the room on the far right of the second floor; it wasn't very large—only about one hundred square meters.
"Everyone check around the room and see if anything seems off!" I took out Ox Tears and had Lan Yue and Zhang Yang apply it on their eyelids. Then I pulled out a compass from my backpack while activating my Yin-Yang Eyes to start inspecting the house.
It was noon—the time when Yang Qi was strongest—so even ghosts with cultivation wouldn't dare wander outside.
If there were a ghost in Zhang Yang's room, it must be hiding somewhere within.
I held the compass and turned around the room, discovering that there was indeed an Eerie Aura in Zhang Yang's bedroom. However, the Eerie Aura was chaotic, making it impossible to pinpoint its source.
"Did you find anything?" I put away the compass and asked Qu Liang and the others.
Qu Liang shook his head. "No discoveries!"
Zhang Yang also shook his head, looking somewhat dejected.
I glanced around but didn't see Lan Yue, so I asked, "Sister Zhang Yang, where is Lan Yue?"
Zhang Yang pointed to the bathroom. "Lan Yue is in there."
I shook my head in disbelief, thinking that lazy people really do take their time. I ran over and knocked on the bathroom door, asking, "Lan Yue, have you found anything?"
After waiting for a moment without hearing a response from Lan Yue, I knocked harder on the bathroom door and shouted, "Lan Yue, say something!"
I called out several times, but there was still no sound from inside. A sense of unease crept into my mind, so I quickly stepped back and kicked the bathroom door with force.
