I followed Hu Yalong closely behind the Wandering Soul, and after about ten minutes, the Wandering Soul finally came to a stop.
Looking around, I realized that the Wandering Soul had led us to the front of a dilapidated Siheyuan. It sniffed at the entrance, and soon its excited eyes turned red. Without hesitation, it dashed inside.
The Siheyuan was surrounded by walls, so I couldn't see what was happening inside for now. However, judging by the Wandering Soul's reaction, I suspected that the Spider Demon was likely within.
If the Spider Demon was indeed inside, then the Wandering Soul would surely clash with it in its desire to consume blood. Yet, after waiting outside for three or four minutes, I still hadn't heard any unusual sounds from within.
I glanced at the entrance of the Siheyuan and said somewhat impatiently, "Fatty, let's go in and take a look!"
Approaching the entrance, I sensed a thick Eerie Energy emanating from inside—much denser than what I had felt in the factory earlier. My brow furrowed; I couldn't afford to be careless. Quickly, I took out two Talismans and affixed them to my Peach Wood Sword.
Seeing my actions, Hu Yalong extended his own Peach Wood Sword toward me with a grin. " Brother Jiang Ling, give me a couple of Talismans too!"
I nodded and handed him two Talismans to attach to his Peach Wood Sword. Additionally, I gave him a bag of Cinnabar and instructed, "If a fight breaks out later, stay back and wait for your chance to strike."
Hu Yalong winked at me with a mischievous smile and patted his chest. "Hehe, Brother Jiang Ling, you know my skills."
Thinking about Hu Yalong's sneaky tactics during fights made me speechless. However, having him lurking nearby to ambush the Spider Demon would be just right.
Taking a deep breath, I pushed open the door of the Siheyuan. With a creak, it swung open.
Holding my Peach Wood Sword, I stepped inside and saw that the place was covered in cobwebs. Even the open space in the courtyard was overgrown with weeds; it seemed no one had been here for quite some time.
As I surveyed the condition of the Siheyuan, my gaze was quickly drawn to a well in the corner of the courtyard. Using my Yin-Yang Eyes, I noticed that Eerie Energy was continuously seeping out from it.
"That well is suspicious; let's check it out!" I said.
I approached the well and saw a strand of spider silk hanging above it. The silk looked very fresh—there was no dust on it at all—completely different from any cobwebs I'd seen before. I picked up the strand and sniffed it; there was a faint trace of demonic energy lingering on it.
I tossed the spider silk onto the ground and peered into the well. "The Spider Demon must be right inside this well!"
Hu Yalong also leaned over to take a look into the well, but unfortunately, it was pitch black inside, and he couldn't see anything at all. Instead, he was chilled to the bone by the eerie energy that surged from within.
Pulling his head back, Hu Yalong rubbed his frozen chubby face and asked, " Brother Jiang Ling, that wandering soul from earlier didn't jump into this well, did it?"
As I circled the well, checking the surroundings, I replied, "That spider demon must have lured those wandering souls into the well with the scent of blood and flesh, then directly devoured them to cultivate its power."
"After a monster devours wandering souls, it needs time to refine them, making it vulnerable during that period. That's our best opportunity to strike."
Hu Yalong asked, "Is now the right time to act?"
I nodded. "We're so close to this spider demon, and it hasn't reacted at all. It’s probably busy consuming a wandering soul."
"Perfect! We can set up a formation to deal with it!" I took out six peach wood nails and drove them deep into the ground around the well. Then I pulled out an ink pot containing a red thread smeared with cinnabar and black dog blood—common tools for exorcists to combat evil entities.
I handed the ink pot to Hu Yalong and said, "Fatty, wrap these red threads around those peach wood nails and seal off the entire mouth of the well. That way, the spider demon won't be able to escape!"
"Got it!" Hu Yalong took the ink pot and began pulling red threads across the well's opening. Meanwhile, I wasn't idle; just in case, I took out some yellow paper and drew three exorcism talismans, sticking them onto the well's mouth. However, these talismans were freshly drawn and hadn't been activated yet, so they held no power.
Once I affixed the exorcism talismans, I immediately infused them with vital energy and performed several hand seals. As I completed the last hand seal, I shouted loudly, "Ultimate Earth! Mystical Arts Have Methods! Evil Spirit Rampant, Three Pure Ones Suppress!"
"Exorcism Talismans, command!"
As soon as my words fell, the three exorcism talismans ignited spontaneously without fire, emitting three beams of golden light that imprinted themselves onto the well's surface, transforming into three golden runes.
"Roar! Who's up there?" The spider demon sensed the surge of spiritual energy from above and let out a furious roar as it charged toward the well.
Before it could reach us, a wave of eerie energy surged forth first, tearing away two of Hu Yalong's secured red threads in an instant.
Startled, Hu Yalong quickly ran behind me and asked nervously, " Brother Jiang Ling, do you think that spider demon will break free?!"
I hoisted the Peach Wood Sword onto my shoulder and said with a hint of bravado, "What’s there to fear? With you, Brother Jiang Ling, by my side, even if it charges out, I’ll finish it off with a single strike!"
Before long, I saw a dark shadow rushing up from the bottom of the well; it was the Spider Demon.
The Spider Demon’s body slammed against the red thread at the well's mouth, tearing away half of it. Even two of the seven Peach Wood Nails outside the well were pulled out. If it weren't for the red thread tangled by Hu Yalong, it might have escaped.
Although the Spider Demon didn’t break free, its eight legs clung tightly to the well's edge, trying to exploit the gap in the red thread to crawl out.
At that moment, three Golden Runes at the well's mouth suddenly activated. Three beams of white light shot out and struck the Spider Demon, sending it plummeting back to the bottom of the well.
The three runes at the well's mouth developed fine cracks, and their colors faded significantly. If they were used three or four more times, they would completely vanish.
I rushed over and reburied the two Peach Wood Nails that had been pulled out, then shouted to Hu Yalong, "Fatty, hurry and wrap up the red thread!"
Just as Hu Yalong and I finished securing the red thread, the Spider Demon let out a roar and charged toward the well's mouth again.
I took out a packet of Cinnabar, tossed it in my hand a couple of times, and then grinned mischievously at Hu Yalong beside me. "Fatty, let’s do this! Revenge for grievances and enmity for no reason!"
With that, I threw the Cinnabar into the well.
