We exchanged glances, scratching the back of our heads, and shared a mischievous grin. Just moments ago, we had come up with over ten ways to deal with Wang Shenglin, and he was in for quite a surprise.
"Everyone, apply this stuff on your eyelids; it might come in handy later!" I pulled out a bottle of Ox Tears and handed it to Hu Yalong and the others, casually explaining its effects.
As soon as Hu Yalong heard that applying Ox Tears would allow him to see ghosts, he eagerly unscrewed the cap and slathered a generous amount on his eyelids.
" Brother Jiang Ling, this Ox Tears smells terrible!" Hu Yalong exclaimed, pinching his nose with a pained expression.
I shot him an annoyed look. "Serves you right for putting on so much!"
Ox Tears already had a strong foul odor; usually, just a tiny bit was enough to be effective. The more you applied, the worse it would smell without enhancing the effect.
Seeing Hu Yalong's vivid example, Lan Yue and the others were careful with their application, avoiding any mishaps.
We followed Wang Shenglin into the Body Storage Room of the funeral home, where we saw several beds lined up, each covered by a black body bag.
"Sister Zhang Yang, why are there still bodies here when they keep disappearing from this funeral home?" Lan Yue stood next to Zhang Yang, deliberately striking up a conversation.
"This is the only funeral home in the city; these bodies have nowhere else to go, so they end up here!" Zhang Yang replied.
Wang Shenglin set up an altar in the center of the Body Storage Room, lighting several incense sticks and placing some commonly used ritual tools on it.
"Master Wang, what should we do next?" Xu Jingfeng asked eagerly as he rubbed his hands together while following Wang Shenglin.
Wang Shenglin placed his items on the altar, clasped his hands behind his back, and stood before it with his eyes closed. He felt deeply conflicted about whether or not to proceed.
"Master, do you think the money is too little?" Xu Jingfeng asked nervously when he noticed Wang Shenglin's lack of response. "As long as you're willing to take action, I'll give you an extra hundred thousand!"
Upon hearing Xu Jingfeng double the price, Wang Shenglin's eyes immediately widened. He cleared his throat and said, "Rest assured, Boss Xu! Since I, Wang Shenglin, have taken on this task, I won't back out halfway! However, I'm not sure if what you have is genuine."
"It's real! It's real!" Xu Jingfeng didn't care about the extra hundred thousand in his heart because the compensation for a lost body at the funeral home would be much more than that.
Wang Shenglin nodded and walked up to the altar. He picked up a Peach Wood Sword and began to wave it around haphazardly while muttering some incomprehensible incantations.
Seeing Wang Shenglin's antics made me want to laugh. I elbowed Hu Yalong and said, "Fatty, doesn't he look like he's having a seizure?"
Hu Yalong didn't believe that Wang Shenglin was a powerful master at all. Upon hearing my words, he burst out laughing and replied, "You’re right! He really does look like he's having a seizure!"
Wang Shenglin shot a glare at Hu Yalong upon hearing his laughter. Then he took a silver talisman from the hands of a young acolyte behind him.
"Supreme Old Lord, I command you!" Wang Shenglin performed several hand seals over the Silver Talisman and then threw it over Hu Yalong's head, shouting, "Summoning Talisman, heed my call!"
The Silver Talisman flew into the air and ignited without fire. A cloud of fragrant white smoke descended upon Hu Yalong.
"What is this smell? It’s so fragrant!" Hu Yalong took deep breaths of the white smoke surrounding him, his face showing signs of ecstasy.
"Fragrant my foot! Do you know you've been tricked?" I kicked Hu Yalong in the rear and said, "This white smoke is meant to attract ghosts and monsters. Given the density of the smoke around you, it will last at least ten minutes before disappearing. In that time frame, just make sure you don’t get taken out by any spirits!"
Hu Yalong was startled by my words. Grabbing my hand with a quivering voice, he pleaded, " Brother Jiang Ling, think of something! I don't want to die this soon!"
I told Hu Yalong, "The solution is simple; you just need to pour a little Black Dog Blood on yourself."
Upon hearing this, Hu Yalong immediately took out a bottle of Black Dog Blood from his suitcase and poured a generous amount over himself.
As the Black Dog Blood dripped onto Hu Yalong, the white smoke surrounding him seemed to react, dissipating rapidly from his body.
Wang Shenglin had intended for the white smoke to settle on Hu Yalong to scare him with a few recently deceased spirits in the funeral home, seeking revenge for Hu Yalong's earlier mockery. However, he did not expect his plan to be disrupted so quickly.
"Damn it, how dare you try to trick me!" Hu Yalong exclaimed as he noticed the white smoke had vanished. Furious, he pulled out a Peach Wood Sword from his suitcase and charged angrily at Wang Shenglin.
"Fatty, don’t go! I have a way to help you!" I grabbed Hu Yalong's arm and then cast a Spell into the remaining white smoke with my right hand. Pointing at Wang Shenglin, I shouted, "Go!"
The cloud of white smoke obeyed my command and rushed toward Wang Shenglin.
"You’re actually a mage?!" Wang Shenglin exclaimed as he recognized my identity upon witnessing my display of power.
The reason I had concealed my identity as a Yin Yang Master was to gauge Wang Shenglin’s intentions. Now that he had crossed the line by bullying my brother, I would not stand idly by.
I retaliated swiftly, and Wang Shenglin had no chance to evade. The entire cloud of white smoke surged into his body.
Though it was just a brief confrontation, Wang Shenglin realized he was no match for me. His face turned pale as he stumbled back a few steps, his expression shifting between fear and uncertainty as he looked at me, unsure of what to do next.
"I failed to recognize your greatness; I hope you won't hold it against me!" Wang Shenglin clasped his hands together and bowed deeply at a ninety-degree angle, speaking respectfully.
Between two unfamiliar Onmyoji, the powerful one is referred to as "senpai." If they are acquainted, they address each other according to their seniority.
I initially intended to continue dealing with Wang Shenglin, but seeing him so polite made me hesitate to be too harsh.
I nudged Hu Yalong and gave him a knowing look. He immediately understood my intention. Striding confidently up to Wang Shenglin, he declared, "Since you call me Brother Jiang Ling senpai, what should you call me?"
Wang Shenglin glanced at Hu Yalong, his expression darkening. In the past, he would have slapped Hu Yalong away without a second thought, but now he could only grit his teeth and bow slightly, saying, "Wang Shenglin pays respects to senpai!"
"Ha ha, not bad, not bad!" Hu Yalong laughed heartily and nodded.
I noticed that Wang Shenglin was on the verge of exploding with anger. I kicked Hu Yalong aside and chuckled, "You keep doing your thing; don't mind me!"
"Yes, senpai!" Wang Shenglin bowed to me again and returned to stand before the Altar. He glanced at me, feeling more confident now.
"It smells so good!"
"I want to eat him!"
Just as Wang Shenglin was preparing to cast a spell, a group of figures burst into the Body Storage Room. They looked at Wang Shenglin with fierce eyes, as if appraising a delicious dish.
