As I was on my way, I asked Zhang Yang about the case. It turned out she was handling a theft case involving a funeral home.
The funeral home had been experiencing mysterious disappearances of corpses for several months. At first, they thought it was just a registration error, but after repeatedly checking the information, they confirmed that indeed some bodies were missing.
The owner of the funeral home suspected that someone was stealing the bodies, so he installed cameras in many places around the premises. However, the next day, another body went missing, and nothing was captured on the cameras; some key cameras were completely static, as if they had been tampered with.
The owner remained determined and gathered four or five security guards to lie in wait at the entrance of the Body Storage Room to catch the thief.
That night, however, both the owner and the guards suddenly fell asleep. When they woke up, they found that the large door of the Body Storage Room had been broken into, and all thirteen bodies inside had vanished.
Afterward, the owner tried various methods to catch the thief, but each attempt failed, and more bodies continued to disappear. Overwhelmed by external pressure, he finally reported the situation to the police.
Zhang Yang was the officer assigned to this case. Initially, she also believed someone was stealing the bodies. She spent a night outside the Body Storage Room with her team, but like her officers, she inexplicably fell asleep.
Zhang Yang reviewed the footage from the funeral home's cameras but found no clues; it was as if the bodies had vanished into thin air.
With no leads on such a perplexing case, Zhang Yang met me and decided to seek my help as a last resort.
After listening to Zhang Yang's account, I had a general understanding of the case and could guess what might be happening. However, I needed to visit the funeral home to confirm the details.
Before heading to the funeral home, I needed to ask Qian Duoduo for help in preparing some ghost-catching supplies. Items like vermilion powder, glutinous rice, black dog blood, peach wood swords, and anything else that could ward off spirits—I instructed Qian Duoduo to gather them all since I could get reimbursed by the funeral home owner.
When we arrived at the meeting place with Qian Duoduo, he had everything ready.
"Brother Jiang Ling! You finally made it! I've been waiting for twenty minutes!" Qian Duoduo joked with a big smile on his face. His cheerful demeanor suggested he must have encountered some good fortune.
Curious about his excitement, I asked, "Qian Boss, you seem so happy. Did your Jade Buddha finally sell?"
Qian Duoduo walked over, draping his arm around my shoulder and pulling me aside. In a mysterious tone, he said, "Brother Jiang Ling, to be honest, that Jade Buddha has indeed been sold! The reward I promised you has already been deposited into your bank account."
Upon hearing Qian Duoduo's words, I immediately took out my phone to check. To my delight, I found that my bank account had indeed increased by fifty thousand Renminbi. It was the first time I had earned such a large sum of money, and I couldn't hide my excitement.
I looked at Qian Duoduo and laughed heartily, saying, "Boss Qian, if there are similar opportunities in the future, remember to come to me!"
"Don't worry, if anything comes up in the future, I'll definitely seek you out!" Qian Duoduo chuckled as he pulled me along. "Come on, let's take a look at what you wanted!"
Qian Duoduo packed everything into a large suitcase. He opened it and pointed at the contents. "Ten pounds of Glutinous Rice, a bucket of Black Dog Blood, one tael of Cinnabar, one brush, and a stack of Yellow Talismans. Lastly, there are five Peach Wood Swords!"
As soon as I saw the Peach Wood Swords in the suitcase, I immediately picked one up and gave it a few knocks. Previously, I had been tricked by Qian Duoduo's Peach Wood Sword. I examined them closely; although these five swords were not made from Thunder-Struck Peach Trees, they were definitely crafted from peach trees over thirty years old.
After checking everything and finding no issues, I looked at Qian Duoduo and said, "Boss Qian, if you dare to trick me this time too, we won't be able to continue being friends!"
Qian Duoduo scratched his head awkwardly and smiled sheepishly. "Brother Jiang Ling, don't worry; I absolutely won't trick you this time!"
"By the way, have you prepared the Ox Tears I asked for?" I inquired.
"You can trust me with my work!" Qian Duoduo nodded and pulled out a bottle meant for eye drops containing a green liquid. That was the Ox Tears.
With my Yin-Yang Eyes, I could see any spirit whose cultivation level was not higher than mine. However, others couldn't do that. Even if Hu Yalong activated his Wisdom Eye, he could only see the lowest-level spirits.
But as long as Ox Tears were applied on one's eyelids, one could see spirits with less than a hundred years of cultivation for an hour. This bottle of Ox Tears was specifically prepared for Hu Yalong and the others.
Qian Duoduo had gathered so many items for me without charging a single penny; he treated me as a friend without any pretense.
I couldn't refuse Qian Duoduo, and in the end, I didn't give him any money. However, in my heart, I considered Qian Duoduo a friend.
After Zhang Yang loaded the suitcase onto the police car, she led us to a restaurant near the funeral home for a meal. Once we were full, the six of us finally made our way toward the funeral home.
As I approached the entrance of the funeral home, I felt a strong presence of Corpse Qi emanating from inside, and the temperature around us was several degrees cooler than outside.
This was quite normal; places like funeral homes, which are specifically designed to store bodies, accumulate various types of Corpse Qi over time. It reminded me of my experience at the Slaughterhouse.
Using my Yin-Yang Eyes, I took a look inside the funeral home and noticed that the Corpse Qi wasn't particularly dense; it hadn't reached the level where ghosts could be born.
I took out four Yellow Talismans from the suitcase and dipped a brush into Cinnabar and Black Dog Blood to draw four Righteousness Talismans.
"Ultimate Earth, Mystical Arts Have Methods! Righteousness flows, Vanquish All Evil!" I performed several Hand Seals with my hands, activating the four Righteousness Talismans. After completing the last Hand Seal, I tossed the four Righteousness Talismans into the air and shouted, "Righteousness Dispels Evil, command!"
The four Righteousness Talismans floated up without any wind and then landed at the four cardinal points around the funeral home. Once they settled, they ignited spontaneously without fire, transforming into four beams of golden light that shot into the funeral home.
The accumulated Corpse Qi within the funeral home was instantly cleared by the four Righteousness Talismans, and everyone immediately felt the temperature around us gradually rising.
Zhang Yang and the others were stunned by what I had just done; their gazes toward me became more serious. Feeling a bit embarrassed under their scrutiny, I touched my ear and said, "Let's go inside!"
