Chen Xiang slammed his hands on the table, roaring in anger, "Those bastards... invading time and again! Communications Officer! I want the situation on the front lines! Now!"
The Communications Officer immediately operated the projection device on the table. With a few keystrokes, a three-dimensional projection image quickly appeared. The projection showed a drone hovering over the battlefield, where smoke billowed and soldiers engaged in fierce combat, with debris scattered across the ground. The signal was somewhat unstable, occasionally interrupted by noise, but the overall situation was still relatively clear.
Chen Xiang stared intently at the projection, a flicker of anxiety and anger in his eyes. He saw the soldiers on the front lines fighting desperately, but the enemy's numbers and strength clearly had the upper hand. The demon race's attacks were fierce and relentless, putting immense pressure on the defending soldiers.
"Communications Officer, zoom in on the situation in North City and East City!" Chen Xiang commanded.
The projection switched immediately, with the drone's camera zooming in to display the conditions in North City and East City. In North City, Demon Soldiers surged like a tide, while frontline soldiers formed a defensive line, barely holding back the enemy's assault. The situation in East City was equally grim; the demon race's attacks came like a torrential storm, and although the soldiers fought back valiantly, the circumstances remained dire.
Li Ming, Master Han, and Chen Yao stood beside Chen Xiang, their eyes glued to the projection. They watched the frontline battle unfold, filled with tension and anxiety.
The drone continued forward, capturing intense scenes of combat on the battlefield. Bullets and Spiritual Energy waves flew through the air; even through the lens, one could feel the explosions and vibrations clearly. On the ground, flames erupted and smoke filled the air as soldiers fought fiercely against enemies coming from all directions.
The frontline soldiers formed a solid defense, wielding various weapons as Spiritual Energy fluctuations and gunfire echoed around them. The Human Soldiers struggled to maintain their line against the first wave of demon assaults. As the camera swept across the battlefield, it captured both exhaustion and determination etched on the soldiers' faces.
"We held them off!" one soldier shouted, his tone laced with relief and satisfaction.
Just as everyone began to breathe a little easier, a sharp screech suddenly pierced through the sky. The drone's camera quickly adjusted to capture a group of shadows diving down from above.
"What is that?" Li Ming exclaimed, staring intently at the projection.
Chen Xiang furrowed his brow and calmly replied, "It's a Shadowbird Beast."
The Shadowbird Beasts emerged from the demon realm, their appearance fierce and terrifying. With six eyes and four wings, they measured about three to five meters in size and flew at incredible speeds. The shrieks of the Shadowbird Beasts echoed through the air, sending chills down spines.
The soldiers reacted swiftly, raising their rifles and channeling Spiritual Energy, aiming at the Shadowbird Beasts. However, these creatures were agile and unpredictable, diving quickly to evade most of the attacks. As they neared the ground, they unleashed scorching flames from their mouths, the fiery tongues dancing in the air and igniting the grass and trenches below.
"Quick! Attack them!" a commanding officer shouted, directing the soldiers to concentrate their fire against the Shadowbird Beasts.
Li Ming, Master Han, and Chen Yao watched the drone projections, feeling the tension of the battlefield. The soldiers fought desperately, but the onslaught of the Shadowbird Beasts was ferocious; many soldiers were engulfed in flames, their agonized screams piercing through the chaos.
"These monsters are too powerful!" Li Ming clenched his fists, filled with anger and helplessness.
The mechanized human forces quickly moved in to support; tanks and the Hummer Convoy advanced, unleashing a torrent of firepower from their vehicles. The roar of machine guns and artillery created a cacophony as intense bombardments wove a fiery net in the air, striking down the diving Shadowbird Beasts and temporarily halting their assault.
"Good job! Keep up the fire suppression!" an officer shouted commands.
Flames and smoke filled the air as Shadowbird Beasts struggled above, one by one being shot down to the ground with piercing cries. Humanity's counterattack seemed to be gaining some traction, lifting the soldiers' morale slightly.
However, at that moment, an unimaginable sight appeared before Li Ming. He saw two familiar figures emerge within the demon ranks—Xiao Li and Xiao Wang. They had once been Li Ming's colleagues at his company; though they were despicable individuals, they were still human.
But now, they had transformed into something horrifying. Xiao Li sported sharp horns atop his head, his arms varying in size with bulging muscles that radiated unnatural strength. Xiao Wang's feet had morphed into hooves, making him appear even more savage and ferocious.
"This... how is this possible?" Li Ming stammered in shock, disbelief and anguish filling his eyes.
Xiao Li and Xiao Wang wore cold expressions devoid of any warmth from their past. Standing before the Demon Soldiers, they seemed to have become part of the demon race. Xiao Li swung his mutated arms forward in a charge, his immense power effortlessly toppling the Human Soldiers ahead.
“Xiao Li! Xiao Wang!” Li Ming shouted in despair, trying to bring them back to their senses, but all he received were their cold, indifferent gazes.
Xiao Wang's hoofed feet stomped heavily on the ground, sending vibrations through the air. Then, with a leap, his sharp claws tore through the trench ahead. The soldiers retreated in panic, but many were unable to escape his attack, letting out cries of agony.
Li Ming felt his heart shatter and a sense of helplessness wash over him. He couldn't believe that his colleagues had turned into such monsters. The pain and anger within him filled him with overwhelming despair.
“Li Ming, calm down!” Master Han's voice rang in his ears, filled with unwavering determination. “We cannot be swayed by our emotions; we must focus on fighting the enemy!”
Li Ming took a deep breath, striving to regain his composure. He knew this was not the time to wallow in grief; he had to be strong and face reality.
“What we need to do is save this world, even if it means confronting enemies who were once human,” Li Ming silently vowed to himself, his eyes reigniting with the flames of resolve.
