Standing before the towering figure of the Giant Mother Zombie, Zheng Yifan felt a tremor coursing through his body—not from fear, but from excitement. He sensed an unusual power, the very force that had transformed the Giant Mother Zombie into its current form.
Every cause has its roots and connections; the Giant Mother Zombie before him did not simply mutate without reason.
Ordinary Mutated Zombies might pose a challenge, but the creature in front of him was different. If it weren't for Zheng Yifan's ability to counter it and his perseverance thus far, he would never have reached this point. The wild grasses had fought over the underground water veins and absorbed the Zombie Fluid, gradually weakening the Giant Mother Zombie. Without that, Zheng Yifan would have been unable to stand here.
It was a summoning, a familiar call. Within Zheng Yifan's Storage Space, the Primordial Pearl inscribed with the character for "origin" emitted a powerful signal. No matter how far apart they were, once the distance reached a certain threshold, the sensation of summoning intensified.
The secrets of the Primordial Pearl might be found within the Giant Mother Zombie.
The Adamantium Shield rested lightly on his left arm, while the Silver Spear radiated a murderous intent. The Giant Mother Zombie sensed the looming threat of death.
However, as a mother body, it could only give birth to Plant Zombies. As Zheng Yifan approached, it could only summon its own Plant Zombies through this method.
Yet, these summoned Plant Zombies would be entirely different from those in the past.
Hundreds of golden Cocoons began to fall from midair. Unlike ordinary Cocoons that hatched quickly, these contained Plant Zombies that struggled to break free but seemed bound by some unseen force. They remained unhatched, weakening as they attempted to emerge, their power gradually dissipating.
Finally, as Zheng Yifan stood ready, the first Cocoon before him shattered.
"Hiss!" A fierce roar accompanied a sharp Claw that tore through the Cocoon. Emerging from within was a Plant Zombie resembling a mantis.
The vicious Claw broke through the Cocoon and sliced through the air toward Zheng Yifan as if commanded to do so. Hundreds of Cocoons burst open simultaneously, revealing more mantis-like Zombies. Their Claws were razor-sharp, and their bodies moved with agility and speed. However, drops of Zombie Fluid indicated to Zheng Yifan that these Zombies were not fully matured—or perhaps they were one-time-use Zombies—but that mattered little.
Zheng Yifan faced a significant problem; these mantis-like Zombies would be formidable opponents. Their powerful offensive capabilities combined with their lack of defense made them even more dangerous. Their strength lay in their willingness to fight to the end.
In terms of their attacking methods and speed, they were unparalleled.
With arms like scythes sharper than knives and devoid of any Vital Energy usage, they executed simple yet devastating attacks.
Zheng Yifan had no time to evade; he could only raise his Adamantium Shield in defense.
Suddenly, a Mantis Plant Zombie charged at him, breaking through the sound barrier and approaching at light speed.
It was a true revelation, but it lasted only a moment, and could only be sustained for so long.
If one could maintain proximity to Light Speed for an extended period, then they would have entered another realm altogether.
Unfortunately, they were merely cannon fodder.
Yet even as cannon fodder, they were Fifth Level cannon fodder.
Each Mantis Zombie possessed Fifth Level strength. Zheng Yifan was desperately defending himself, searching for a breakthrough.
These Zombies must have been meticulously cultivated by the Giant Mother Zombie; how long they could survive was uncertain.
It was likely that only a creature like the Giant Mother Zombie, akin to a mother nest, could unleash such combat power in an instant.
However, his losses were undoubtedly immense. Zheng Yifan could clearly see that the Giant Mother Zombie seemed to have suffered significant damage to its Vital Energy and was no longer replenishing the ordinary Plant Zombies.
The number of those Zombies was steadily decreasing. They were being slaughtered. Even those that had not died were slowly withering away, turning into Zombie Fluid and returning to the earth, back to the body of the Giant Mother Zombie.
Zheng Yifan's Power of Faith was also gradually being reclaimed. Faced with these Mantis Zombies, he dared not take any chances. If he weren't afraid that the remaining Plant Zombies would wipe out Li Ning and everyone else behind him, he would have disbanded the Avatar of the Believers and unleashed his strongest combat power long ago.
Even a brief burst of strength would suffice.
But alas, it was not meant to be. The combat power of the Mantis Zombies forced Zheng Yifan into a nearly defensive position. Their fierce attacks, with arms wielding blades that glimmered with a hint of death, meant that if Zheng Yifan let his guard down even slightly, his head would be severed from his body by their overwhelming force.
What was even more terrifying was their sheer number—over a hundred of them.
This quantity spoke volumes; as long as Zheng Yifan could not defeat them, death awaited him without question.
And it was inevitable; the formidable Mantis Plant Zombies were overwhelmingly powerful.
Suddenly, several flames appeared in mid-air, their light illuminating the ground and enveloping the Mantis Plant Zombies.
However, Zheng Yifan clearly understood that these Zombies—strong breeds carefully nurtured by the Giant Mother Zombie—could not possibly lack formidable defensive capabilities.
Although their resistance to attacks was not strong, they faced the flames without any issues. The green light on their bodies flickered a few times, completely extinguishing the fire.
There was not a trace left. The attack from Zheng Yifan continued unabated.
At this moment, only a dozen Mantis Plant Zombies were nearby, but if he waited too long, when hundreds of Mantis Plant Zombies gathered, Zheng Yifan's time of death would arrive.
This moment would not last long. It might only be a second or two, as some Mantis Plant Zombies had yet to break free from their cocoons.
Those must be Mantis Plant Zombies that had not matured sufficiently. They lacked the formidable combat power of the current Zombies, or perhaps they had been evolving for a longer time, making their cocoons even tougher.
Regardless of the reason, Zheng Yifan did not want to face more Mantis Plant Zombies. His only way to win now was to take down the Giant Mother Zombie and see if these Mantis Plant Zombies would still survive.
The Avatar of the Believers could no longer be considered; Zheng Yifan could only disband them all. The warriors behind him could only rely on luck for their lives, depending on Zheng Yifan's desperate struggle.
He was betting that Li Ning's wound would be enough to injure the Giant Mother Zombie, and that the Giant Mother Zombie's Zombie Crystal or vital points were located near the base rather than at the almost invisible top.
This judgment was based on the fact that the Giant Mother Zombie needed to continuously replenish nutrients and water. If the Zombie Crystal were at the top, the replenishment speed would surely decrease. He had no choice but to gamble; it was a matter of life and death.
