Rising Sun The dawn cast a golden light over the land, illuminating the earth as the Zombies slowly made their way from the mountains to the plains, heading towards areas inhabited by humans.
In the mountains, there was no food for them; their hunger seemed to guide them instinctively. Without leaders or commanders, they descended from the forest, drawn by an innate sense toward any place where humans might survive.
The mountains had once again become a sanctuary for plants and animals. Occasionally, one could hear roars echoing through the jungle, muffled yet powerful enough to command attention.
Fortunately, they seemed trapped within the jungle and did not advance into the plains.
Only the Zombies emerged, a vast sea of First-Level Zombies occasionally mixed with Second-Level Zombies.
As for Third-Stage Zombies, one would need extraordinary luck to encounter them. Their numbers were scarce, but it was certain that within the horde of Zombies, Third-Stage Zombies existed.
Li Ning and four companions were clearing out a wild area close to the resort. Just about three miles ahead lay the resort itself, its towering buildings visible in the distance. These structures could be considered Skyscrapers even in a city, now standing tall in this picturesque setting.
Perhaps it was this environment that attracted the resort project; amidst increasingly harsh conditions, beautiful scenery became what people yearned for most.
And now, this place would soon become their territory, where they would settle down.
“Hey! Ning Ge! Do you see that Skyscraper? There’s definitely going to be a room for us there,” one of the team members laughed while pointing at the Skyscraper. In this Post-Apocalypse, they could hardly imagine such luxury! Moreover, within a resort like this, it was likely for commercial use and not for sale.
But now, it was within their reach.
“Of course! Right now we are teammates; in the future, we’ll be neighbors,” Li Ning said with a rare smile as the team continued forward.
When acting alone, achievements were calculated based on Zombie Crystal, so there was no concern about battle records.
“Roar! Roar!” On the desolate grassland, a gentle breeze swept through, accompanied by the cries of Zombies. Here, any trace of industry had vanished; all that remained was smooth grassland. Ahead lay the resort and another expanse of grassland. Following the road further led to a river marking the southeastern boundary.
A river spanned across both lands; in ancient times it served as a trench separating them. Now, it stood as an impenetrable barrier; from what they knew about Zombies, none would dare cross it.
The raging river brought not gentleness, but death; being swallowed by the fish would be their only escape.
Now, in the distance, the Jiang Grand Bridge was a chaotic scene, with tangled cars making it difficult for the Zombies to approach. Without enough flesh to attract them, they hesitated. The wind carried scents that hinted at food ahead, yet there were also morsels behind them—humans scurrying like rats within Hansui City. As long as they were willing to hunt, they could catch a few.
"Brothers! Charge! Each Zombie is worth two points of Military Merit. Whoever kills the most gets to feast afterward!" Li Ning laughed heartily, aiming his gun at a Zombie and leading the charge.
It was important to note that their feast was not just any meal; it was a true banquet exchanged with Military Merit in the military kitchen. Aside from harder-to-obtain ingredients, everything else could be purchased—even Australian Lobster and Sea Cucumber and Abalone could be ordered for a table, and the prices were quite reasonable.
Several among them were quite capable in the military and had accumulated a decent amount of Military Merit.
When it came time for battle, everyone became serious. The five formed a circle, sweeping through the area. When facing one or two Zombies, they hunted individually. However, if there were more than five Zombies, they would pair up or group together. If the number reached ten, they would all gather as one.
"Thud! Thud!" Li Ning fired two shots, both hitting their marks in the throats of the Zombies. This was the result of his rigorous training; only through high-intensity practice could he master such precision.
The Zombie Crystal was crucial; it had to penetrate the neck and dislodge the Zombie Crystal within. Otherwise, the Zombies could survive and continue bringing death upon them.
"Drink!" Li Ning shouted loudly before swiftly dispatching several more Zombies, using his long pincers to collect the Zombie Crystal s and place them into a specialized bag.
The bag was well-crafted to ensure that the Zombie Crystal s wouldn’t fall out and that any Zombie blood wouldn’t contaminate the outside. In the end, all that was needed was to clean the pincers.
With two legions working together and over a thousand explorers behind them, their progress accelerated tremendously.
Three Three Nights!
For nearly four hours, they swept through the Zombies outside the resort. They had done their best, drawing out more Zombies from within.
The Zombies inside the resort were clearly tougher; Second-Level Zombies were everywhere, forcing the soldiers from both legions to tread carefully. Sword and Shield Bearers moved to the front lines.
On the ground lay trenches filled with gasoline and fishing nets—these became lethal tools against the Zombies.
Fifteen man-eating flowers were planted here, ready to be fed with captured Zombies. Zheng Yifan had purchased several barrels of fresh blood from the Slaughterhouse, pouring them at the roots of each flower.
The scent of blood attracted the Zombies, and the Low-Level Zombies rushed in like they had gone mad. In this resort, there were no humans left to feed on; they hadn't eaten in so long that the prospect of food drove them wild.
Two legions of warriors set up a frontline with four trenches, forming layers of defense to intercept the Zombies. Under their strategy, the Zombies seemed to be walking to their deaths. The First-Level Zombies were completely wiped out in the trenches, where the ground had been compacted, allowing the liquid from the dead Zombies to flow toward the roots of the man-eating flowers. Seven flowers at the front feasted on the best nutrients.
The growth rate was accelerating; within just three hours, the fifteen man-eating flowers were almost ready to bear fruit.
This excitement fueled the Two Major Legions even more. They knew that Essence was currently the most valuable resource, and after this battle, some among them would surely gather enough Military Merit to exchange for it.
The internal exchange rates within the legions were incredibly favorable—so much so that it left them speechless. An A-Level Essence could be exchanged for just 50,000 Military Merit. However, with so many wolves and so little meat, this item would be snatched up as soon as it became available.
The current price was exhilarating for them. Everyone was determined to secure a bottle as quickly as possible.
Team members gradually began to unite, pooling their Military Merit so that one person could obtain Essence first and elevate themselves to a Superpowered Individual. Then they would help others acquire Essence and evolve together into Superpowered Individuals.
Li Ning stood out among them; he had already hunted down 17 Zombies—a jaw-dropping number that left others in awe. So many Zombies had fallen at his hands.
When their team returned to report and check rankings, they saw that Li Ning was leading by over 400 Zombies compared to second place.
Another team was Ace from the Flame Legion, but they were responsible for dealing with a higher number of Second-Level Zombies. Their main target was indeed these Second-Level Zombies; while tougher than First-Level ones, they still posed a challenge.
However, Ace from Flame Legion wasn't worried about lacking Essence. They had enlisted earlier and accumulated far more Military Merit than Bloodbath Legion.
With just a few more tough battles, every member of their team could exchange for a bottle of A-Level Essence.
They never paid attention to Essence below A-Class because only A-Level Essence could guarantee a 100% success rate and potentially evolve into higher-level Superpowers.
This was something they dreamed of achieving; they would gladly accumulate Military Merit over time for it.
If the college entrance examination in a post-apocalyptic world is a challenge that knows no distinction between rich and poor, then the first use of Essence to awaken Superpower after the end times is akin to the process of Transcended Dragon, where whether one becomes a dragon or a worm hinges on this gamble with Essence.
The battle slowly approached, and the silhouette of the resort gradually came into view. It was a vast resort, so large that it could be considered a town, though it had no residents and only provided tourism.
Such grand plans came to an abrupt end when the apocalypse struck. Most of the workers had turned into Zombies, and those who managed to survive had no chance of living after experiencing the disaster brought by the Zombie invasion in Hansui City.
“Attention! All units assemble!” The loud call summoned the entire army. After clearing out the enemies in front of them, all teams moved toward their designated position, which was set as the final assault gathering point during the planning stages.
Zheng Yifan appeared at the forefront, standing before the mountain gate outside the Resort. The gate was ancient and imposing, towering over ten meters high, with no inscriptions. According to Han Rui, they had planned to invite domestic carving masters to come and engrave it within a week before opening.
Just standing outside the resort gave a sense of grandeur; inside was nothing short of extravagant. Even from over a thousand meters away from the main building of the Resort, one could see luxurious houses and tidy streets.
Neon lights adorned every corner of the resort, with skyscrapers rising high, surrounding a central building like stars encircling the moon.
A noticeably shorter building stood out among them, topped with countless high towers. Suspended above these towers was an enormous Glass Ball, within which lay an artificial village, floating in mid-air.
The uppermost part of the surrounding buildings led to a passageway toward the Glass Ball. Although the lower towers lacked Electricity support, they still generated Rejection force to keep the Glass Ball suspended in mid-air.
“Look! That’s the new world reported on Post-Apocalypse television!” A proud teenager at the front of the crowd exclaimed.
