Every battleship has some coffins stored in the Refrigerated Room, meant for the high-ranking generals who sacrificed their lives during wartime.
Zhang Huwei was honorably placed in a coffin. After hearing his words, Ikeda Kenji personally, along with Five Manners and others, lifted him to his resting place.
When a person dies, it is like a light extinguished, but the war must continue. If they remain immersed in sorrow, they will be unable to extricate themselves and will repeat the same mistakes.
Thus, when the screen shifted to Ikeda Kenji, the sadness on Jufeng's face was replaced by resolute determination.
"Shangguan Wangyu's army has already set out. Be careful over there; I will follow him. I fear that this protracted war may finally come to an end. Take care, Ikeda Brother."
It was the first time Ikeda Kenji had seen Jufeng speak in such a tone. Although he felt deep sorrow, that sorrow transformed into the courage to fight to the death because of Jufeng's words.
Ikeda Kenji resonated with Zhang Huwei's sentiment: death is inevitable for everyone. If given a choice of how to die, he would prefer to die on the battlefield.
Jufeng gave him the courage to face death in battle.
"You take care too. Don't worry; I will make sure to trap Cao Ke thoroughly."
The two exchanged a glance before cutting off the video feed. The Dragon Breaker Army followed closely behind Shangguan Wangyu and headed towards Ikeda Kenji.
...
After severing communication, Ikeda Kenji turned his gaze towards the three people in the command room.
The most skilled Mecha Pilots here were Five Civilized Courtesies and Tong Bailong. Four Crimson Rank pilots could barely manage to contain one Cao Ke.
"Thank you."
Ikeda Kenji bowed solemnly. In truth, his relationship with these four was not one of friendship; they were gathered together solely because of Jufeng. Therefore, this bow carried significant weight.
The four of them exchanged formalities, their expressions grave not only due to the difficulty of the mission but also because of the poignant departure of Zhang Huwei.
Life cannot be devoid of sentiment; with that thought, they turned away gracefully.
As they watched them leave, Jufeng's gaze fell back on Lu Hongyu. "I'll leave the ambush to you," he said.
Since returning from the Large Magellanic Cloud, Lu Hongyu had remained at the border, always close to Zhang Huwei. He had risen through the ranks under Zhang Huwei's guidance, who had shown him great kindness. Thus, with Zhang Huwei's death, Lu Hongyu felt a sorrow deeper than anyone else's.
Lu Siblings' parents had died early, so Zhang Huwei had taken on a fatherly role for Lu Hongyu. There was no grief heavier than that of losing a father.
Suddenly, Cao Ke launched an attack. Despite Lu Hongyu leading his mech battalion in a desperate fight, they were unable to turn the tide and ultimately allowed Zhang Huwei to be mortally wounded. The guilt he felt was unimaginable.
So when Ikeda Kenji discussed the ambush with him, he had already resigned himself to the possibility of death.
"I will handle it."
With that, Lu Hongyu led the remaining forces of Zhang Huwei's army to set up an ambush outside.
Even as Ikeda Kenji rushed over, he and Pan An managed to corner Cao Ke on the planet. Their battleship could no longer take off; escape would rely solely on their mechs, while civilization had already moved to intercept them. The next step was to prepare for the incoming support from Shangguan Wangyu.
"What are you thinking?"
Ikeda Kenji had been issuing commands earlier, but Pan An remained silent. Curious, he asked.
Upon hearing Ikeda Kenji's question, Pan An slowly lifted his head and couldn't help but smile. "I was just wondering what’s more important: avenging my father or taking on the great responsibility of the Cosmos?"
Ikeda Kenji was momentarily taken aback; he hadn't expected such honesty from Pan An. Yet amidst his surprise, he felt a surge of joy because Pan An's willingness to voice such thoughts indicated that he had made up his mind deep down.
This determination made Ikeda Kenji look at him with newfound respect.
"Actually, I was hesitating just now, but the last words of Zhang Huwei taught me some important lessons. Perhaps I started my quest for revenge from the wrong place. I believe my father also hoped that the United Forces could defeat the Suihuan Army."
Ikeda Kenji smiled as well, feeling happy because so many positive things were happening today. Although General Zhang Huwei had sacrificed his life, he left behind invaluable wisdom that would benefit those who listened to him for a lifetime.
"Well, what are your thoughts?"
Pan An grinned proudly and said, "I studied all of Cao Ke's battles, including the recent one against the Hurricane Army. I must say, he is truly impressive. Even if Shangguan Wangyu were to use spatial leaps to get here, it would take him five time units. That isn't enough to set up such a large trap, but it would be sufficient to leave Shangguan Wangyu severely injured."
Back then, the Hurricane Army had nearly become targets under the firepower of the Zhongzheng Army; now Pan An intended to return all of that to the Suihuan Army.
Hearing this, Ikeda Kenji's smile widened even more. At that moment, he wanted to shamelessly say: great minds think alike.
"There's no time to waste; let's move quickly."
...
Shangguan Wangyu was eager to rescue Cao Ke, so he chose the fastest and most energy-efficient method: Spatial Leap.
Jufeng followed him for a while, and after Shangguan Wangyu used Spatial Leap, the Dragon Breaker Army began to do the same to catch up. However, this meant they lost track of each other and could only focus on the decisive battlefield ahead.
Jufeng gazed at the vast starry sky and prayed in his heart that Ikeda Kenji and the others could hold on.
...
From a high vantage point overlooking the planet where Cao Ke was trapped, one could see a large area engulfed in flames—Blaze—caused by a battleship of the Zhongzheng Army crashing into a forest.
In the sky, amidst the rolling black smoke, countless mechas weaved in and out of each other. Occasionally, bright fireworks would burst against the dark backdrop, creating a solemn beauty.
Cao Ke felt quite frustrated at that moment. He never expected the Hurricane Army to appear so coincidentally and so close! A Spatial Leap manifested right before him, followed by a barrage of artillery fire that left no room for respite. Before Cao Ke could even confirm whether Zhang Huwei was dead, he found himself falling here.
However, the delay from the Hurricane Army gave Cao Ke a moment to assess the situation. It seemed that the last elderly pillar of the United Forces had fallen after all, which was a small consolation in this dire circumstance.
Cao Ke immediately relayed the news to Shangguan Wangyu. Today had been exceptionally unlucky for him; if Shangguan Wangyu didn't come to negotiate, the Zhongzheng Army might face total annihilation.
Yet another headache emerged before him: four Crimson-Class Mecha appeared in front of him.
Cao Ke finally stirred up the bloodlust and killing intent within him.
"You've done well, but it's still not enough. To show my respect for you, I will defeat you all utterly!"
