The first match featured the Mid-Level Azure mechs, and it appeared to be a showdown between two veterans. Although their skill levels were not particularly high, their techniques and experience were well-honed, making for a thrilling and unpredictable battle.
Jufeng watched the two fighters and suddenly had a question. "Is one of these two your people?" he asked.
He thought that in the struggle between the old and new factions, there should be some distinction during the confrontations. However, if that were the case, wouldn’t it mean that the two factions were already at odds?
Ganwen understood the deeper meaning behind Jufeng's question and replied, "Of course not. The military hasn't reached a point where it needs to take sides yet; for now, it's just a matter of who is more ambiguous with whom. Both of these fighters are loyal followers from the old faction."
Since Huankezhao declared war, the structure of the Cosmic Police had undergone numerous changes. Jufeng learned only yesterday upon arriving at Magellan Star that after Dragon Elder's death, the latest formation was the Twenty-Third Army.
The original Ironclad Troops and Landing Troops had been disbanded and redistributed among various armies, enhancing each army's diversity and improving their flexibility and independent combat capabilities, making them more suited for cosmic warfare.
The Twenty-Third Army consisted of five Commanders, twenty Commanders, and over a hundred Masters. Some armies operated without Commanders, directly governed under a Commander’s command, such as Liu Lei's United Nations Honor Guard.
The Dragon Breaker Army was also part of the Twenty-Third Army.
Jufeng recalled this formation and noticed the numbers of the two Mid-Level Azure mechs: First Army Second Division. He couldn't help but furrow his brow.
Ganwen noticed Jufeng's change in expression and glanced at the two numbers. "The First Army is quite famous; its Foundation is the Battleship Brigade First Army, which has always been at odds with our teacher."
Previously, Lu Hongyu mentioned that there were five leading armies in Cosmos, three of which belonged to the United Nations. Ganwen's Battleship Brigade First Army was one of them.
The Dragon Breaker Army was based on the Ironclad Brigade Dragon Breaker Army and had always had a poor relationship with the First Army. Now that Dragon Elder was deceased, it was clear that the Commander of the Battleship Brigade would not look favorably upon Jufeng or the Dragon Breaker Army.
"Is Pand Zhong a supporter of Liu Lei?" Jufeng asked.
Ganwen nodded. "Pand Zhong is also one of our biggest critics among Warlords; he is very set in his ways and resistant to change."
Jufeng smiled lightly. "How many old-timers can be as enlightened as Dragon Elder? If persuasion fails, there will always be other ways."
During their exchange, both Azure Level upper-tier Demonstrations had already begun. The two fighters hailed from the Eleventh Army, a neutral force with little to discuss.
Suddenly, Ganwen remembered something he had overlooked. He was supposed to tell Jufeng about it, but he had been feeling a bit off earlier and hadn’t gotten around to it.
"By the way, Pand Zhong is also your Commander. Do you have any difficulties?"
Jufeng had just been the subject of some bad talk, and now Ganwen was delivering this unwelcome news. He couldn't help but smile wryly and said, "I, Liu Lei, always find ways to create difficulties for myself. It seems that I don’t even need him to take action; his partner has come instead. No worries, bring it on! Difficulties and troubles together are better than an endless stream of good."
Ganwen nodded, seeing Jufeng's face showing no signs of despair or fear, which boosted his confidence even more.
He led Jufeng out of the lounge and into the preparation room. Unlike the lounge, this place was not quiet; several people were sitting together and laughing.
However, upon seeing Jufeng and Ganwen enter, the conversations in the room came to an abrupt halt. The gazes directed at Jufeng were particularly complex.
Jufeng had just taken over as Commander of the Dragon Breaker Army, which sent ripples through the Military. Transfers of high-ranking officials were not uncommon, but for someone who had been relatively unknown to jump directly from Major to Commander was hard for many to accept.
The first to react were naturally those in the Dragon Breaker Army.
Ganwen approached a young man who was fully equipped and ready for battle, introducing him to Jufeng: "This is Qi Fa, one of your capable subordinates from now on! Tenth Rank, Master of the Dragon Breaker Army."
As Ganwen introduced Qi Fa, he spoke with enthusiasm—partly to give Qi Fa face and leave a good impression; partly to set the stage for Jufeng, hoping their first meeting would go smoothly.
Jufeng's gaze turned toward Qi Fa, who looked back at him. However, neither spoke a word, creating an awkward atmosphere.
Ganwen shot Jufeng a meaningful glance, but Jufeng seemed oblivious.
Qi Fa was a rising star in the Military but had been with the Dragon Breaker Army for eight years. He started his military career at eighteen and was promoted to Master at twenty-six; his rapid ascent could certainly be attributed to the war with Huankezhao.
He was a rebellious individual but not unreasonable. The current situation felt absurd to him—a stranger was supposed to be their Commander—and he had no intention of giving Jufeng a warm welcome.
"You can't beat me," Jufeng suddenly stated, staring intently at Qi Fa.
Upon hearing this, Qi Fa raised an eyebrow, a sharp glint appearing in his eyes.
"I can defeat you in a mech battle in less than a minute."
Jufeng's words were quite hurtful, even though they were an undeniable fact. This made Qi Fa very angry.
However, pride is not always a negative trait. Qi Fa did not let his anger spiral out of control; instead, he pondered for a moment, softening his expression before responding calmly, "Let's each bring fifty mechs and hold our ground on a high point. I can ensure your entire army is annihilated."
This was not mere bravado from Qi Fa; it was a genuine assertion. In military operations, battles between mechs are far more complex than the individual skirmishes Jufeng had witnessed before. It involved the synergy of multiple mechs working together to unleash devastating attacks.
Fifty mechs united to launch a combined shelling or deploy an electromagnetic net like the one used previously at Magellanic Star would be beyond Jufeng's capability to counter, causing him to narrow his eyes slightly.
A chill filled the air.
Yet Jufeng did not lose his temper; his composure was anything but simple. Qi Fa was merely twenty-six, while Jufeng was approaching thirty, leaving him with a slight edge in experience.
"Give me half a year, and I can match your skills; but even if you had half a lifetime, you wouldn't be able to do what I can."
Jufeng was naturally referring to the Mid-Level Red Rank. What he could achieve was rooted in learning military tactics and strategies.
Currently, being illiterate meant that after learning, one could no longer remain so.
Qi Fa still found himself at a disadvantage.
He wanted to retort further, but outside, the Azure Level upper segment exercises had concluded, and next up was the Tenth Rank Military Exercise.
His opponent would be a Master from the First Army.
As Qi Fa busied himself with the Military Exercise, he suddenly glanced behind Jufeng as he was leaving and couldn't help but smile. He looked at Jufeng and said, "A soldier should not rely solely on verbal prowess. It seems you have much to learn about military conduct. Also, I’m not dismissing your abilities; if you can defeat him later on, I promise not to cause you any trouble when you return to the army. How does that sound?"
Jufeng did not look back, but he knew who Qi Fa was referring to. He smiled calmly and said, "It's a deal."
Qi Fa shrugged, snorted coldly, and left to prepare for his battle.
Behind Jufeng, a figure slowly approached him.
"I heard you killed Hear the Command. Good. Because of this, I can guarantee that I won't let you lose too badly today."
A cool voice rang in Jufeng's ears. Ganwen, seeing the newcomer, couldn't help but show a warm smile. The respect and humility on his face made Jufeng furrow his brow slightly.
He turned to the side and saw the appearance of the newcomer.
