Looking at Old Horse, who was so emotional that tears welled up in his eyes, Jufeng felt a warmth despite the exaggeration. Being hunted from one planet to another in a foreign land could easily lead to feelings of loneliness, but Old Horse's presence made Jufeng feel a sense of home again.
Jufeng shook his head with a smile and said to Old Horse, "Stop with the useless chatter. Let's get to the point. How did you know I was here?"
He took a seat on a rickety chair in the factory, allowing Old Horse's subordinates to carefully re-bandage his wounds. Chen Tan Hua rested nearby, listening intently to the conversation between Jufeng and Old Horse.
Old Horse respectfully replied, "I was originally on routine patrol at Delta Star to handle some matters when I suddenly heard about the Suihuan Army's pursuit of a kidnapping suspect. I have some connections at the police station and saw the computer-generated image—it was Brother Jufeng. That’s how I realized you were here."
"I intended to help Brother Jufeng, but that area is heavily guarded, and I couldn't find an opportunity. I had no choice but to send my brothers to wait outside for a chance to act. Fortunately, Zhu Jiling found Brother Jufeng; otherwise, it would have been dangerous for you to be out there injured."
Upon hearing this, Jufeng cast a grateful glance at the young guide beside him, who looked overwhelmed and flattered.
Although Old Horse credited Zhu for the success, everything was still under his control. He wouldn’t act until absolutely necessary, demonstrating his cautious and shrewd mindset.
Once the people around him finished bandaging his wounds, Jufeng sighed and said, "Honestly, the danger isn’t what bothers me; it’s that in the end, it feels like drawing water with a basket—completely futile. It’s really frustrating."
Old Horse noticed Jufeng's displeasure but still had information to report—another piece of bad news.
After pondering for a moment, Old Horse feigned difficulty and called out, "Brother Jufeng."
Still lost in thoughts about how to find leverage against Huankezhao, Jufeng slowly returned to reality upon hearing Old Horse's call. Seeing Old Horse's hesitant demeanor made him realize something else must have happened.
"Just say it; don’t beat around the bush."
Old Horse's approach was merely to prepare Jufeng psychologically for what was coming next.
"Brother Jufeng," he began, "yesterday Huankezhao sent invitations to all top 500 companies in Cosmos. It’s a celebration of Huankezhao and its business alliances successfully expanding their territory and bringing tax freedom to many merchants. Our retreat from Magellanic Star hasn’t been fully executed yet, so attending this banquet might be unavoidable."
Jufeng was taken aback by this news. Such business activities should have been handled by Guo Hua and had little to do with him; why was Old Horse being so cautious about it?
Jufeng looked at Old Horse, waiting for him to continue.
Old Horse went on, "Huankezhao specifically noted in their letter that it’s also a celebration for Jiang Xue and Wenming, two members who graduated from Huankezhao’s training program. It seems Huankezhao is aware of our support from behind the scenes."
Old Horse's words truly shocked Jufeng. Since they had uncovered some clues, many things must have already come to light.
Jiang Xue and Wenming both came from Zongheng Express, which might not be a problem in itself. However, the key issue was that Jufeng was still investigating Huankezhao. He knew he had met that fellow named Tony, who might have thought of many questions because of this. Therefore, Jiang Xue and Wenming's situation was quite dangerous.
Moreover, since it was mentioned in the invitation, it naturally carried deeper meaning.
Seeing Jufeng lost in thought, Old Horse provided another piece of information and continued, "The one who delivered the invitation to us is Huankezhao's chief steward, Tony. He specifically inquired about Brother Jufeng's situation and hopes to meet you at the banquet."
Jufeng's mind calmed as he sneered, "This truly hides a deadly scheme!"
After a moment, Jufeng suddenly burst into laughter, startling Old Horse.
He said to Old Horse, "Old Horse, I hear you're quite familiar with Huaguo's culture. Do you know the story of the Hongmen Banquet?"
Old Horse had long passed the age of knowing his fate and found his greatest pleasure in reading outside of the Underworld. When Jufeng mentioned the Hongmen Banquet, Old Horse immediately understood its implication.
Huankezhao was hosting the banquet, while Jufeng was attending it. In history, what remained after the sands of time settled were those who attended the banquet.
Old Horse put on a respectful smile and said, "It seems Brother Jufeng is determined to attend the banquet."
Jufeng nodded, inadvertently exuding an aura that made Old Horse's heart tremble and caught Chen Tan Hua's attention from a distance.
"Since they have extended such a warm invitation, I certainly must attend. However, I won't engage in cowardly acts of survival; instead, I want to see if I will be the one left standing in the end!"
Since the enemy had already come knocking at his door, Jufeng needed to prepare for battle without delay. The only problem now was how to return to Magellanic Star; with a citywide manhunt underway, he and Chen Tan Hua's mechs at the interstellar transfer station were likely detained.
"Old Horse, do you have any way to help us get out safely? Otherwise, we won't be able to attend Huankezhao's banquet."
Jufeng knew that since Liu Gulang had been entrenched in Large Magellanic Cloud for eight years, he must have reliable methods; his capabilities were not inferior to Xue Zhi Xia.
Seeing that it was time for him to step up, Old Horse patted his chest and assured him, "Brother Jufeng, don't worry! I know a high-speed rail route for government supplies. Once we reach another city, I'll arrange for your return."
Upon hearing this, Jufeng nodded and realized there was no time to waste; he needed to leave immediately. However, before he could speak, one of his subordinates rushed in from outside with urgent news for Old Horse.
The man saw that the room was full of people, and there were outsiders present as well. Not knowing what had happened earlier, he simply called out to report, but then hesitated to continue.
Old Horse, noticing this, scolded, "Brother Jufeng is the boss's boss. We all work for Brother Jufeng. If you have something to say, just say it. If you delay, you won't be able to keep your position."
Hearing Old Horse, the subordinate quickly apologized to Jufeng. Naturally, Jufeng wouldn't hold a grudge; he was just curious about what could be so urgent.
The subordinate then said, "The headquarters of Magellanic Star has an emergency call. Third Sister has been forcibly taken away by the second young master of Universal Energy Corporation."
Jufeng was taken aback upon hearing this. He seemed momentarily confused by the name Third Sister, but after a moment, he suddenly remembered, and his expression darkened.
Wen Yun, ranked third among Sister Five, was privately known as Third Sister within the company. She was already a renowned star goddess in Cosmos. How could she suddenly be taken away by Universal Energy Corporation at such a critical moment?
