Fides directed his first suspicious glance at Jufeng, and there was no mistake about it. After all, his relationship with Hua Cheng and the others was already quite deep, certainly stronger than the mere acquaintance he had with Jufeng, which lasted only a night.
However, Jufeng's response was too quick, the turn of events too abrupt, yet so precise that one couldn't help but follow his line of thought.
Thus, Fides looked at Hua Cheng and noticed the latter's evasive gaze and his gradually retreating footsteps.
This was the Terrorist's warehouse, not very large and quite messy, with the entrance littered by the disarray of stationed personnel and many items that could be easily grabbed.
Fides and Hua Cheng exchanged glances for two seconds; in the third second, the stillness of the scene erupted violently.
Chen Long knocked down a nearby Terrorist with a punch, while Ning the Fatty swiftly pulled out a handgun from his pocket and fired at a Terrorist beside him. His aim was off, hitting the man under the ribs. But given the close distance, the man stumbled and collapsed to the side, temporarily knocked out.
Hua Cheng did not refute this; it seemed unnecessary because outside were all his people. The parties involved in this transaction were destined to face justice.
Fides then saw the smile on Hua Cheng's face—proud and far from the previous flattery.
Cursing inwardly, Fides pushed his teammate toward Hua Cheng and then dashed into the Mecha Group, disappearing from sight.
Hua Cheng made a move to pursue but was already too late. He muttered a curse under his breath, though his face still bore a hint of joy.
Only a few Terrorists had entered with Fides; now they had all been dealt with by Chen Long and Ning the Fatty.
Hua Cheng signaled and quickly vanished with the other two, heading toward the exit.
At this point, their mission was complete—successfully concluded. Now it all depended on Jufeng.
And Jufeng had already vanished earlier, even faster than Fides.
A hundred mechs stood tall, resembling a stone forest in a scenic spot of Huaguo, even more surreal and elusive than that place. However, just half a minute after Fides left Transform, a gun was pressed against his forehead.
Jufeng emerged slowly from the gaps between two mechs, looking at Fides, his entire demeanor undergoing a sudden transformation.
No longer soft and powerless, nor the delicate figure of the night, he now exuded a fierce and resolute aura.
Fides's gaze shifted slowly from the cold, menacing muzzle to the revitalized Jufeng. At least on the surface, he showed no panic; instead, he calmly revealed a slight smile and said, "So you’ve been disguising yourself all along."
The change in Jufeng's demeanor did not affect the tone of his words; he remained as aloof and proud as ever.
"Dealing with you desperate people, can I not keep my guard up? Otherwise, I wouldn’t even know how I died."
Fides recognized the truth in Jufeng's words. To hold the position of supervisor in the Mineral Family, his abilities must be extraordinary. Without some solid backing, how could the head of the family dare to entrust such a large sum of money to him?
Fides's current mindset was firmly rooted in acknowledging Jufeng's identity; everything was based on the premise that Jufeng was indeed the supervisor of the Mineral Family. Thus, he felt that Jufeng's actions increasingly resembled those expected of a supervisor, which only diminished his doubts.
Yet he failed to notice that he had already fallen into the trap set by Jufeng and Hua Cheng, unable to extricate himself. Shouldn't one be more suspicious when someone appears so much like what they claim to be? What kind of supervisor would act so deliberately?
Fides couldn't fathom that; believing he had confirmed Jufeng's identity allowed him to relax. After all, a significant amount of money was in their hands, and he trusted that Jufeng wouldn't easily kill him.
In reality, he guessed correctly that Jufeng wouldn’t kill him here; however, the reason was entirely different. The true motive was that Jufeng wanted to use him to find the elusive Azure Dragon Monk and Arms Factory.
Fides smiled and said, "Brother Zhang, pointing a gun at me isn’t very nice."
Jufeng smiled lightly and said, "There's nothing wrong. A large sum of my money is still in your hands, but now the goods are gone. Do you think this is acceptable?"
Clearly, outside were the just police, and the forces of the Terrorist left here were insufficient to resist them. Therefore, the outcome would soon become apparent: this warehouse was about to be confiscated.
Fides weighed the situation in his mind and then said, "Don't worry, we still have the goods for fifty mechs; it will just take some time. How about this? You accompany me to the base, and once the goods are ready, we will deliver them to you."
Upon hearing this, Jufeng sneered, "Don't boast too much. What makes you think you can produce fifty mechs in such a short time? Do you think mechs are toys that you can just pull out whenever? Is your family running an Arms Factory?"
At Jufeng's words, Fides immediately turned to him, looking as if he was about to agree. However, just as the words were on his lips, he swallowed them back down.
Seeing this, Jufeng frowned and stared intently at Fides, making him unable to meet Jufeng's gaze.
"Oh! So that's how it is! You actually have the capability to store these hundred mechs; it turns out you really do have a workshop. Tsk tsk, impressive!"
Fides felt a pang of self-reproach at Jufeng's insight. Compared to Jufeng, he had clearly fallen behind and had been led into revealing information.
However, with things as they were now, he could not argue further. He hastily said, "So what if it's true? Since you already know, can we take the guns away? This way we can continue our transaction."
Jufeng shook his head with a look of disdain and said, "Even if it's true, I need to see it for myself. Otherwise, if I leave, where can I find you again? Moreover, I need to verify the latter part of the funds personally..."
Before Jufeng could finish his sentence, a violent roar suddenly came from above them, followed by intense shaking of the ground. It seemed that an attack was imminent from outside.
Fides did not want to get entangled here any longer; otherwise, he would surely face death. Looking at Jufeng's demeanor, he might still ensure his safety through family connections, but he could not afford to take risks.
"Can we leave here first?" Fides said impatiently.
Jufeng looked up at the sky, where several fighter jets were circling. It was easy to spot their own side. He nodded and said, "One of us will board the mech."
There were many types of mechs, and even the smallest ones could accommodate two people, though operating them together would be quite difficult. Fides heard Jufeng's words and didn’t hesitate any longer. Fortunately, there was a large model mech nearby, so they both climbed aboard. Suddenly, they soared into the sky, roaring away.
The speed of the mech surpassed that of the fighter jets, leaving those aircraft in awe.
On the ground, Hua Cheng watched as the mech took off and couldn't help but smile. If they could get this done, it would lift a significant burden from their hearts.
Little did he know that following Jufeng had made him increasingly adept at undercover work. First with Yang Chou, and now here—he was almost treating this profession like a golden ticket.
However, when it came to mastery, it had to be Brother Jufeng!
