"Are you serious?" Li Hong asked tentatively.
Lin Ruxian rolled her eyes at Li Hong. "What about you? I've been thinking about temporarily stepping back from this industry, so naturally, I don't want to stay at the original company anymore. Luckily, my contract is about to expire in a few months, so will you take me in?"
"That's no problem, but why do you have to leave the entertainment industry? With your current popularity, making some money in a year should be easy for you," Li Hong said, puzzled by Lin Ruxian's decision.
The entertainment industry is a place of fame and fortune, where everyone rises and falls, all for that little bit of recognition.
Fame and fortune have never been separate entities in the entertainment world. With fame comes fortune, and with fortune comes fame; that's what draws everyone to this industry.
Lin Ruxian might not feel like she's at the peak right now, but she is certainly in a period of great popularity. At this moment, retreating from the scene is something Li Hong just couldn't understand.
"Because I'm tired!" Lin Ruxian explained nonchalantly.
"Always having to deal with others' scheming and putting on a show in front of the cameras. I'm not a robot; after a while, it gets exhausting."
"Then just quit; it's not a good place anyway," Li Hong said sympathetically.
Lin Ruxian had debuted as a child star and had been navigating this industry for over ten years. He didn't know what unsavory aspects lay beneath the glamorous surface, but he could understand Lin Ruxian's fatigue to some extent.
Lin Ruxian looked at Li Hong with amusement. "If I stop performing, will you support me?"
"I can't afford to!" Li Hong replied, breaking into a sweat.
Lin Ruxian shot a glare at the man who looked terrified and said resentfully, "Coward, I really don't understand what you're afraid of."
Li Hong had no way to respond to that; after all, he couldn't admit that although he was tempted, he was too scared to accept a big star as his girlfriend.
The conversation ended there, and the two of them chatted casually about recent events while waiting to board their flight.
There weren't many direct flights from the capital to Las Vegas, but there was at least one available. Before long, the three of them boarded the flight to the world gambling city, Las Vegas.
Las Vegas had always been associated with money and crime in people's minds.
For those who had never been there, the world gambling city was certainly a place of longing, but it also represented an unstable lifestyle.
The occasional reports of shootings served as reminders for outsiders like them that Las Vegas was not just a playground.
To be honest, Li Hong had some concerns before coming. If he were traveling alone, it wouldn't be much of an issue. However, this time he brought along Lin Ruxian, a beautiful girl, and Yuchen, a child. With both a woman and a child in tow, Li Hong couldn't shake off a slight sense of danger lurking in his heart.
Fortunately, the flight was not delayed. After a long journey, they finally arrived at the magical place known as Las Vegas.
As they dragged their large bags out of the airport, Li Hong spotted Mark and others waiting by the roadside, looking lively.
Since he was unfamiliar with the area, Li Hong had called Mark before their arrival to ask him to pick them up. Naturally, Mark had confidently assured him that he would be there.
Now it seemed that Mark had kept his word.
Once they got into the Ford Mondeo that Mark had sent for them, Lin Ruxian thoughtfully took Yuchen and sat in the back seat, leaving the front passenger seat for Li Hong, who had something to discuss with Mark.
As soon as the car started, Li Hong turned to Mark and asked, "What's going on in America? I nearly got scared to death during airport security. When did it become so strict?"
Mark shrugged with a smile and replied, "Boss, the Financial Crisis has hit."
"What? What the hell? How did the Financial Crisis just explode out of nowhere?" Li Hong exclaimed, his eyes wide with disbelief.
Before boarding, Li Hong had no idea about the situation in the American Stock Market, as the news hadn't reached China yet.
So, Mark explained in detail how the release of the Virtual Helmet had caused a stir in the Stock Market.
After hearing this, Li Hong couldn't help but think that Americans were being overly sensitive. Their Virtual Helmet was just about to launch, and there wasn't even a shadow of it in the market yet, yet the Stock Market had reacted so violently?
"It's not surprising," Mark explained while driving. "You have to understand, we Americans love investing in stocks. Any little movement in the market can lead to a Stock Market crash. This isn't uncommon in American history; we've grown accustomed to stock market crashes."
Li Hong nodded; this was probably the result of an extremely open capital market. Although the market was thriving, even a slight disturbance could trigger terrifying chain reactions.
"You bastard! You actually called me to America at a time like this. We've caused such a huge mess; these investors must be itching to drink my blood and eat my flesh," Li Hong said, holding his forehead with a wounded expression.
Lin Ruxian didn't understand capital operations but could grasp the problem from Li Hong and Mark's conversation. Hearing that Nasdaq and many other exchanges had completely collapsed, with Li Hong being blamed as the culprit, she couldn't help but worry and asked, "Honey, is it dangerous for us to stay here? Shouldn't we just go back?"
This was an agreement between Lin Ruxian and Li Hong; they were married and naturally had to act like husband and wife in front of others. So, Lin Ruxian referred to him as "honey" in front of Mark.
Li Hong had no objections to this term of endearment; after all, having a delicate beauty call you "honey" was always a delightful experience.
Hearing Lin Ruxian's concern, Li Hong shook his head and said, "It won't be a problem. Although this Stock Market turbulence is somewhat related to us, ultimately, it's still a mess created by Americans themselves. If they hadn't inflated those internet tech companies so high, they wouldn't have crashed so hard."
"Don't worry, boss, we're fine. This is an inevitable result of technological development; it has nothing to do with us."
Mark said leisurely, "However, boss, I suggest you hire a few security teams. Even though it doesn't concern us, crazy investors who go bankrupt can be quite troublesome."
"I understand. Do you have any suggestions?" Li Hong nodded.
This was something he had to consider. In a world like this, especially in a gambling city where guns were rampant and they had offended quite a few people, necessary security measures were essential.
Mark thought for a moment and then suggested, "That's easy. There are plenty of private security companies in America, most of which are made up of retired special forces. Their capabilities are unquestionable. As long as you're willing to spend the money, safety can be guaranteed."
"Alright, I'll leave this to you. We will attend the press conference tomorrow, so make sure everything is arranged before then," Li Hong said in a serious tone.
Mark grinned, "No problem, leave it to me."
