I immediately fished out a set of keys from my backpack, which I had found at the Old Butler's house. Upon seeing the keys, I had casually tossed them into my bag. I remembered that there were several particularly large keys on this keychain, and I had no idea what they were for. Now, it seemed clear that they must be related to the door of this basement.
I shook the keychain and pulled out the largest key, which was about as thick as my arm and had six prongs extending in different directions. I inserted the key into the lock and turned it twice. With a loud click, the massive lock, resembling a basketball, sprang open.
I walked over and pushed the stone door. It was heavy and crafted with such precision that not even water could seep through.
As the stone door slowly opened, it revealed a dark staircase leading downward.
Holding my flashlight, I descended the stairs. The staircase wasn't long—just over three meters—before another stone door awaited us.
Mona and I made our way down.
It was exceedingly dark here; wherever the flashlight beam landed, it revealed nothing but shadows. Mona clutched my arm. Although she was formidable, she was still a woman, and in such an environment, fear crept in.
We carefully descended step by step until we reached the second stone door. Again, I took out the keys and selected one that fit, unlocking this stone door as well.
When the door swung open, a wave of putrid odor rushed out, and to my surprise, there were lights inside!
“Who’s there?” a hoarse voice called from within, speaking in English.
Mona and I stepped inside to find a large bed laid out in this underground chamber. Above it hung a rudimentary chandelier.
At that moment, a man was kneeling on the bed—a European man—his skin wrinkled like aged pine bark. He knelt before a corpse on the bed; it was Alice's body. He was engaged in an act with her lifeless form.
Mona and I were both stunned.
The old man turned to us, his anger palpable. He stood up, pointing at us. "Who are you? Why did you break into my estate and enter my private chamber? Who are you? Where is the butler?"
"Who are you?" Mona asked from behind me. "This estate belongs to Viscount Fendi, not you!"
"I am Viscount Fendi! You bastards! Breaking into my estate and still trying to argue!" the old man shouted.
"What?" Mona was taken aback, falling silent.
I wasn't too surprised. This man was indeed Viscount Fendi. Logically, he should be in his thirties at most, yet the person before us looked to be at least eighty years old. However, I understood that dealing with ghosts, especially one who had been in love with a ghost, would certainly age a person significantly.
I glanced at Viscount Fendi and then turned to look at the pile of decaying flesh on the bed.
"Hehehe... What are you looking at, brother?" A woman emerged from that mass of flesh. She was truly a Chinese woman, dressed in a bright red cheongsam, her hair styled in an elegant bun. She looked like a woman from the Republican Era. In truth, this woman was not only beautiful but also exuded a unique aura—a blend of artistic charm and seductive allure, reminiscent of those ancient courtesans who were skilled in music, chess, calligraphy, and painting.
Upon seeing this ghostly woman, I understood why Viscount Fendi was so infatuated with her.
I sighed and said, "Sister, you're a Chinese ghost. How did you end up here?"
The Qipao Ghost giggled, covering her face with a handkerchief as she laughed. Her delicate demeanor was indeed captivating. "Oh dear, can’t I travel abroad? Is it only allowed for you? I've been educated in foreign ways too, you know."
I nodded. "So you're a woman from Shanghai Beach."
The Qipao Ghost laughed even more joyfully.
We were speaking Mandarin, which Mona and Viscount Fendi couldn't understand. However, Viscount Fendi was furious, shouting loudly, "Shut up! You two, shut your mouths! Qian, don’t talk to this wild man, don’t smile at him; I want you to smile at me."
With a swift motion, Qian slapped Viscount Fendi, sending him crashing to the ground.
"Look at you, Old Ghost, so ugly! And you're a foreigner; how can you compare to our handsome Chinese boy?" As she spoke, Qian swayed her body and walked towards me, winking her enchanting Ghost Eyes at me with an irresistible allure.
Mona hid behind me and muttered, "You won’t be enchanted by this female ghost too, will you?"
I stared intently at Qian and slowly walked over.
Qian giggled charmingly and reached out to me. "That's more like it. Come here, little brother; sister will take care of you and let you experience the most comfortable feeling..." As she spoke, her hand brushed against my face.
Of course, I wasn't fooled. My mind was already resolute after facing so many life-and-death situations. Besides, I was a shaman who communicated with spirits; how could I be easily deceived?
Feigning confusion, I approached Qian. Just as her hand was about to touch me, I suddenly threw out a Fire Thunder Talisman.
Boom!
A thunderous explosion erupted on Qian's body.
At the same time, I swung my Azure Thunder Staff down hard towards her head.
"Ah!"
Qian let out a piercing scream as her body suddenly transformed into a mass of black mist. She rose into the air, her wailing voice sharp enough to pierce the soul. Angrily, she shouted at me, and then the swirling black mist rushed toward me.
I was taken aback; it seemed that Qian was no longer just a simple Vengeful Spirit.
What comes after Vengeful Spirits? A Ghost Emperor? Or perhaps a demon?
I couldn't tell for sure.
But I knew that this version of Qian was far more powerful than an ordinary Vengeful Spirit. As she enveloped me in the black mist, I found myself unable to evade her attack. I pulled out the Fire Thunder Talisman, but I had no idea where to place it! My Azure Thunder Staff swung wildly, but the black mist would flicker away whenever it touched the staff, while more of it pressed in from other directions.
When the black mist made contact with my skin, I felt a searing heat, as if I were being roasted over charcoal.
Golden Light Talisman!
I quickly retrieved the Golden Light Talisman and lit it up. The faint glow appeared utterly ridiculous against the vast expanse of black mist.
"Hehehe... So this is all you can do, little brother," the woman laughed as she lunged at me again. The weak light from the Golden Light Talisman was no match for the endless black mist; within just a few breaths, the talisman in my hand dimmed once more.
The situation was dire, yet at that moment, my mind felt unusually clear—more alert in times of crisis!
This mass of black mist still feared the Golden Light Talisman; that was a good sign. However, since the Golden Light Talisman dealt area damage and its power was limited, it could only hold back the black mist for a short time.
The Fire Thunder Talisman and the Corpse Fixing Talisman were utterly useless; this mass of black energy left me at a loss for what to do!
I felt powerless. Although this spirit wasn't as formidable as the Old Tortoise Spirit, once it transformed into black mist, it became omnipresent, and I had no way to deal with it!
After some thought, I refrained from using my witchcraft—not because my Witch Power was precious, but because it was my last resort. If my Witch Power couldn't defeat it and I exhausted all my energy, I would be in serious danger.
Without further hesitation, I got up and ran outside.
The spirit flew toward Mona.
I immediately called out, "Mona, come here!"
Mona quickly stood beside me, and I activated a Golden Light Talisman to protect her.
"What should we do? What do we do now?" Mona asked anxiously.
I wanted to flee, but a massive doubt lingered in my mind. I had been ignoring this doubt until now, but suddenly it struck me: eliminating this female ghost was entirely possible; I just needed to resolve this uncertainty.
Why was the spirit appearing in Alice Manor?
Logically speaking, as a Chinese ghost, even if she had died here, it shouldn't be a coincidence that she showed up right during Alice's wedding!
The most crucial question was: why did Fendi carry Alice's corpse while also moving this bed?
My eyes were drawn to the Wedding Bed.
All my thoughts crystallized in an instant. Perhaps it was due to the Witch Blood heritage, but at this moment, my mind was clearer than ever!
I gazed at the bed, a chilling Ghostly Energy emanating from it. That Ghostly Energy was even more intense than the one surrounding Qian!
In that fleeting moment, the doubts in my heart suddenly unraveled!
This bed was the essence of Qian! It was also why Fendi had insisted on bringing this bed up when he hid in the basement!
Just then, Fendi on the ground suddenly rose. Though his body was as withered as that of an eighty-year-old man, his strength was immense. He had transformed into something neither human nor ghost, charging toward us while shouting, "Get out! Get out of here! Qian is my woman! Get out of here!"
Mona pulled a Glock from my backpack and fired a shot that struck Fendi squarely in the head.
Bang!
A loud noise echoed through the enclosed basement, causing my ears to ring painfully.
Fendi's head exploded, and he collapsed to the ground.
At that moment, a shadow swiftly darted into the room—it was Alice.
Alice suddenly stood on her own corpse, staring at her vibrant Heart, and began to cry loudly, "Everything is ruined, everything is ruined! It's all because of you, you damned ghost!" With that, Alice rushed towards Qian.
I took a deep breath and retracted my steps from fleeing, instead walking towards the Wedding Bed.
"What are you doing?" Mona exclaimed in surprise, grabbing my arm.
"Eliminating the ghost Qian!" I replied, continuing towards the bed.
"We're no match for her," Mona said, still not considering escaping on her own.
"I think I've found the key point." As I spoke, my hand touched the bed frame. The entire bed was made of mahogany, specifically high-quality Sandalwood Rosewood, also known as Hainan Rosewood! This type of hardwood has long been extinct and is only produced in Hainan Island!
Suddenly, my heart understood!
