I returned to the dormitory with the Azure Thunderwood Staff in hand, and Yang Gou Dan's eyes were fixated on it, watching me intently.
I pushed Yang Gou Dan away and said, "Stop staring. Even if you keep looking, I won't give it to you."
Yang Gou Dan sighed, "Song Fei, really, you're just wasting it."
"What do you know?" I snapped back, then ignored him completely.
Although I had no idea how these people managed to create their destined magical tools, I had a strong intuition that even though I was a witch, I should be able to use this Azure Thunderwood Staff. Of course, it would need to be combined with my Witch Dance Technique.
I planned to spend some time studying it further. With this Azure Thunder Staff, my actions during the Mid-Autumn Festival would be much more assured. Besides, if Yang Gou Dan thought it was good, it had to be something special.
Holding the Azure Thunder Staff, I began to integrate it with my own Witch Dance.
Although the Azure Thunder Staff resonated with me now, it would still take some time before I could unleash any magic through it.
Later that evening, while I was playing around with the Azure Thunder Staff, my phone rang.
I glanced at the screen and saw a series of star-shaped numbers. Seeing those numbers made it clear who was calling—there was no doubt it was Su Mingyue.
I picked up the phone. "Hello, Su Mingyue?"
"As long as you're not dead, that's good enough," came Su Mingyue's voice from the other end.
Hearing that familiar line again left me speechless. "Yeah, I almost fell victim to your jinx. Luckily, that big black dog saved me at the last moment."
Su Mingyue didn't ask any further. She said, "You know about the Crystal Sphere, right?"
"The Crystal Sphere?" I was taken aback for a moment, then recalled that it was the one placed atop the Witch Tower.
I quickly replied, "I know a little about it. What, you’re not planning to get the Crystal Sphere, are you?"
"Of course not! The Crystal Sphere is a gateway for the Witch Clan to communicate with the Gods. If I were to obtain the Crystal Sphere, I would naturally give it to you. At that time, you would unlock your abilities," Su Mingyue explained.
Upon hearing this, I was somewhat stunned. I asked, "Miss Su Mingyue, how come you seem to know everything? Who exactly are you?"
Su Mingyue replied, "Who I am isn't important; what matters is that we share the same goal. I'm in a bit of trouble here, so Song Fei, I need you to go to Suzhou and find a jade stone called the Crystal Eye. That jade is very important to us. With it, we can sense the location of the Crystal. You should go to Suzhou."
Listening to Su Mingyue's words only deepened my confusion. I said, "Going to Suzhou is no problem, but Su Mingyue, who are you really? How do you know so much about these matters?"
Su Mingyue fell silent for a moment before hanging up the phone.
I cursed under my breath; this woman was both cold and loved playing mysterious games. Damn it! If it weren't for her high martial arts skills and stunning looks, I wouldn't have put up with her.
At that moment, my phone buzzed with a message from Su Mingyue. I looked at it and saw an image of a jade pendant featuring an eye design in its center—just a single eye. Below it was an address: Suzhou Museum.
I glanced at it and then put my phone away. After preparing my things, I painted a layer of lacquer over my stun baton to conceal it and strapped it to my backpack along with my handgun and other items. Once everything was ready, I went to bed early.
The next day, I drove towards Suzhou Museum.
It turned out to be quite lively there. After asking around, I learned that today seemed to be some kind of jade festival. However, this festival wasn't particularly significant since they held a jade festival every month where everyone brought their jade items—whether real or fake—to sell.
To be honest, my first impression was that the Jade Crystal Eye was an artifact from the Xia-Shang Period. Such a jade ornament should be quite valuable, so it should have been displayed in the central hall of the Antique Fair. This hall had more people, surveillance cameras, and anti-theft glass showcases, making it a much safer place for such a treasure.
However, after walking around the central exhibition hall, I found no sign of the Ancient Jade.
I felt puzzled and decided to leave the hall and walk to the side.
Outside were stalls set up like those in Panjiayuan in Beijing, with each vendor displaying a box in front of them filled with various Antique Jades. Clearly, ninety-nine percent of the items here were fake; only experts and bargain hunters would come here to sift through the goods.
I felt a bit anxious, thinking that such a precious jade piece shouldn't appear at a roadside stall.
As I continued to browse through the stalls, I suddenly stopped in front of a van. The back of the van had a stand set up with several pieces of Ancient Jade on display. Among them, the one in the center was exactly the same piece that Su Mingyue had sent me!
I felt a rush of excitement and immediately walked over, reaching out to touch that piece of Ancient Jade.
"Hey! What do you think you're doing?" A middle-aged man with a beard grabbed my hand. "All these items are genuine antiques! You can’t just touch them without buying; what if you break something?"
I looked at the vendor. He was around forty years old, sporting a thin beard. His eyes sparkled as he spoke, and his gaunt cheeks suggested he was a cunning and unscrupulous person.
I frowned and replied, "I'm interested in this jade piece. Of course, I need to see its quality first. If it's good, I'll buy it."
"This jade is very precious!" he insisted. "You might as well not look at it; just move along."
I had never encountered such an unreasonable seller before. Did he think I was too young to afford it?
However, I realized that I probably couldn’t afford it anyway. But I had to get my hands on that ornament. Without hesitation, I reached out and grabbed the Crystal Eye.
As I held the jade pendant in my hand, a chilling sensation coursed through me, cold and eerie. The eye pattern on the pendant was particularly strange; when I stared at it, it felt as if the eye could move.
I continued to gaze at the pendant.
Suddenly, a large hand snatched the pendant from my grasp.
"Are you done yet? Hurry up and leave," the Bearded Middle-Aged Man said impatiently, placing the pendant back into its box.
I asked, "Are you selling this pendant?"
"Of course I'm selling it, but it's not cheap. You might as well go buy from someone else," he replied.
I inquired, "How much is it?"
Before he could respond, a man in a suit approached. The Suit Man looked somewhat haggard and appeared quite anxious. He walked over, glanced around, and then stood in front of the Bearded Middle-Aged Man. "Boss, I want... um, I need..."
"You don't need to bother, sir!" the Bearded Middle-Aged Man interjected immediately, adopting an air of a sage. "Sir, I can see you're in a hurry; your face shows signs of hidden troubles. It seems that someone close to you has been haunted by a ghost."
"Ah!" The middle-aged man perked up at once. He looked at the Bearded Middle-Aged Man and said, "Boss, you truly are remarkable! It seems that Feng Shui Master didn't deceive me after all. Yes, Boss, my fiancée appears to be possessed by a ghost; it's particularly terrifying. How can I save her?"
The Bearded Middle-Aged Man pinched his fingers together several times, then shook his head and sighed. "It's difficult, very difficult! However, I have just unearthed a jade pendant. This jade is from the Yellow Emperor Period and carries the primal energy of that era. If your girlfriend wears this pendant for some time, she will naturally recover."
"Is that true? That's wonderful!" The Suit Man became excited. "I'll buy this pendant; how much is it?"
"Five million," the Bearded Middle-Aged Man stated.
“Is it really that expensive?” The Suit Man was taken aback. “The price of Ancient Jade isn’t that high; one or two million is already considered a lot.”
“If you’re not buying, then forget it,” Beard said, looking confident that he had the upper hand over the Suit Man.
I watched from the side and began to understand. This seemed to be a scam operation. The Feng Shui Master must have told the Suit Man that he needed to buy this piece of jade to save his girlfriend, which was why the Suit Man was here, ready to pay a high price for it.
Five million! Damn, Beard really had the guts to ask for that! No wonder he didn’t even bother to negotiate when I wanted to buy it earlier; he knew no one would pay five million for this piece of jade unless they were a gullible fool!
The Suit Man hesitated for a moment before nodding. “Alright, five million it is. As long as it can save my girlfriend, I’ll pay whatever it takes…”
I watched the entire process unfold. A piece of Ancient Jade selling for five million—no wonder this guy didn’t care about me at all. I truly couldn’t afford it; no normal person could.
I looked at the jade; I definitely needed to get my hands on it.
After thinking for a moment, I saw the Suit Man and Beard heading towards a nearby bank to make the transfer. I quickly tapped the Suit Man on the shoulder and said, “Hey, how’s it going?”
The Suit Man turned around, looked at me, and nodded.
At that moment, Beard glared at me with hostility as he approached. He forced a smile and said, “Hey, buddy, that jade has already been sold to him. You might as well give up on it.” With that, Beard pushed me back a meter with his shoulder and revealed a sharp Triangular Spike from his sleeve.
Beard leaned in closer and whispered, “If you don’t want to die, keep your mouth shut. If you mess up my business, I’ll stab you right here! Don’t doubt me; there’s nothing I, Huang Dachui, wouldn’t do in this part of Suzhou!”
I quickly replied, “You’ve misunderstood me. How could I mess up your business? Oh, by the way, where did you get that jade? Can you tell me?”
“Get out!” Beard shoved me in the chest.
After pushing me away, Beard laughed heartily and pretended to speak loudly to me, "Buddy, it seems you have an eye for good things. However, good items don't sell to two buyers, and good women don't marry two husbands, right? You came too late with your offer; it's this gentleman's now. Even if you offer a higher price, it won't matter."
The Suit Man also smiled at me apologetically and said, "Sorry, brother. I don't really understand jade, but this piece can cure my fiancée's illness. I have to get it. You should look for other pieces of jade."
Hearing the Suit Man's words, I sighed inwardly. There really are people who get scammed and still help count the money.
I chuckled and said, "How could I? I definitely wouldn't take something from someone else. But this piece of jade is indeed quite nice."
The Suit Man nodded.
I quickly continued, "So, big brother, let's get to know each other. Can you give me your business card? That way, if I want to see this piece of jade again, I can find you, right? You won't be upset about that, will you? Oh, by the way, I have the ability to see spirits and catch ghosts." I smiled.
"Ah? That's great! Absolutely great!" The Suit Man pulled out a business card from his pocket and handed it to me. Then he asked, "Brother, can you really catch ghosts? Could you…"
"Hey now, there are scammers everywhere these days. Mr. Wang, you need to keep your eyes open," Beard interjected as he pulled the Suit Man away.
