"Thank you, Mingyue." I walked over to Su Mingyue and spoke.
Su Mingyue glanced at me and said, "They have already come for you. It seems you can't escape."
"What do you mean? And how do you know I'm in danger?" I looked at Su Mingyue and asked.
She pointed to the camera. "I've been having someone monitor that coffee shop where you are. Last time in the ancient tomb, I felt that since they could set up a deadly trap for a thousand years, they wouldn't let you go easily. I just didn't expect them to act so quickly. Next, you'll be facing thousands of Yin Yao, as well as some mysterious individuals."
I swallowed hard, looking at Su Mingyue. I quickly asked, "What exactly is going on? What are Yin Yao? Who are these mysterious people, and why do they want to kill me?"
A faint smile appeared on Su Mingyue's face, but it quickly faded. "Some people are destined to be unwilling. They are despicable yet ambitious. Even after three thousand years, they still cling to the idea of divine power. What they want is not just power but also immortality—oh, it’s probably much more than that. Therefore, anyone who could potentially become an obstacle to the Land Rover will be eliminated. Even after three thousand years, it remains the same."
Listening to Su Mingyue's words left me confused. "Who exactly are you talking about?"
"The Jifa father and son," she replied.
"Are you referring to Zhou Wuwang? Zhou Wuwang and Zhou Wenwang?" I looked at Su Mingyue in disbelief. "They were great rulers, and the Zhou Dynasty has been gone for three thousand years. How could they still have the ability to kill me?"
A hint of disdain crossed Su Mingyue's beautiful face. "History is always written by the victors. And... well, you'll understand soon enough. You are a descendant of the Witch Clan, with Witch Clan Bloodline. Even if you haven't awakened this power yet, they won't let you go. Come with me."
"Where to?" I asked, feeling an uneasy premonition.
"To that bastard's lair, find him, and kill him once and for all," Su Mingyue said.
I was struggling to grasp the situation. "Are we... going to travel through time?"
"I know he hasn't truly died," Su Mingyue frowned and continued, "If you don't go, you'll face more and more Yin Yao and endless pursuit in the future. If you do go, there’s a chance for a counterattack. I'll give you three seconds to think it over. Three... two..."
"I'll go!" Of course, I had to agree; in reality, I had no choice. Although I still didn't quite understand what was happening now or what had occurred three thousand years ago, one truth was clear: without Su Mingyue by my side for protection, I would definitely die!
Su Mingyue nodded, looking up at the moon. "On this Mid-Autumn night, I come to find you. Be prepared; this journey may lead to life or death." With that, Su Mingyue turned and left, her white garments flowing behind her.
I watched her departing figure, a sudden wave of sadness washing over me. Was I destined never to be an ordinary person, to enjoy a simple life? What had happened to me?
The sounds of hooves and cries echoed in my mind, mingled with faint weeping. I recalled my mother’s stunning beauty, the moment she turned away, the sorrow and regret in her eyes. I remembered the man clad in armor, with a golden dragon swirling around him. It all began to make sense.
The Witch Clan—my entire lineage, including my mother—had been slaughtered. Although my mother had somehow managed to save me, only for my grandfather to adopt me later, it was clear that the enemy responsible for the massacre was that man, likely Zhou Wuwang Ji Fa!
But why such cruelty? Why annihilate my clan?
I rubbed my temples; I had no choice but to follow Su Mingyue into the unknown battlefield! With less than three months until Mid-Autumn, was I really going to part ways with my friends and Liu Yiyi forever?
"Hey, Song Fei, who was that woman?" Zhang Yuru approached and patted my shoulder. She was indeed quite nosy; instead of asking about the monsters, she inquired about Su Mingyue.
"That woman is stunning, like a fairy. Wow, Song Fei, I never realized you were so charming!" Zhang Yuru continued to pat my shoulder, grinning with curiosity.
I felt a bit speechless and ignored her prying questions. Turning to Zhang Yuru, I noticed another woman beside her. This woman looked frail and delicate but was also quite attractive in her own right. However, at that moment, she seemed unwell and gave off a vibe reminiscent of Lin Daiyu.
I nodded at her. "Hello."
She returned a slight nod; despite her frail appearance, she seemed somewhat spirited.
I turned back to Zhang Yuru. "Thank you so much this time. If you hadn't gone a bit crazy and driven my car at three in the morning, I would have been done for."
Zhang Yuru smiled proudly. "Of course! I foresaw that you would be in danger."
I chuckled lightly but felt a bit drained. "Let’s head back to the café; there’s no danger now, but we should be cautious of thieves."
Zhang Yuru tossed me the car keys as the three of us got into the vehicle and made our way to the café.
The door of the café had been broken, but fortunately, there wasn't much damage elsewhere, so it wasn't a big problem.
Zhang Yuru poured three cups of water and glanced at the clock. "It's almost five o'clock. We might as well not sleep anymore, Song Fei. The reason I rushed over here overnight is actually because of my best friend Lin Fan. She's not feeling well."
I looked at Lin Fan and understood why she seemed so thin; it turned out she was ill. I casually asked if she had been to the hospital for a check-up.
Lin Fan nodded. "There was nothing wrong at the hospital."
Zhang Yuru immediately interjected, "Song Fei, wait a moment. Let me explain my best friend's situation to you so you'll understand why I'm so anxious to bring her to see you. Both Lin Fan and I are students at the Police Academy, and in the past, we excelled in our professional courses. Lin Fan's health was even better than mine; honestly, neither of you could match her."
"Really?" I chuckled.
Zhang Yuru shot me a glare. "Don't underestimate her! Lin Fan is really impressive; otherwise, how could she be my best friend? But lately, something strange has happened. It seems that whenever Lin Fan sleeps, she has nightmares and experiences sleep paralysis. She hasn't had a good night's sleep in over a month, which is why she seems so weak now."
"Over a month without a good night's sleep?" I looked at Lin Fan.
Lin Fan nodded, clearly not in great spirits. "I've been to the hospital for tests—Neurology, Endocrinology, and Psychiatry—but the doctors found nothing wrong. However, every time I try to sleep, I encounter sleep paralysis. The doctors think it might be due to work stress, so I'm considering taking some time off. If it's really work-related, I'd like to join Zhang Yuru and find another job instead of being a police officer."
I was somewhat speechless; how could she give up such a good job as a police officer?
Zhang Yuru chimed in, "Yeah, I drove your car to visit Lin Fan for some fun. But when we were sleeping that night, I think I actually saw shadows pressing down on Lin Fan. She was shaking as if she were drowning. I was so scared that I woke her up, and then we drove all night from Shandong Province to get here."
I rubbed my temples; now it made sense why Zhang Yuru had suddenly appeared at three in the morning.
I nodded at Lin Fan. "Alright, dealing with sleep paralysis shouldn't be too difficult. I don't see any ghostly shadows around you right now, but don't worry; catching a ghost isn't that hard. Thank you both for coming to my rescue today. Let's go; I'll treat you to breakfast—let's have the most famous breakfast in Donghai City: Steamed Soup Dumplings."
"Look at you! So generous!" Zhang Yuru exclaimed.
Lin Fan also smiled; at that moment, she seemed much more relaxed.
The next two days, Lin Fan showed no signs of anything unusual, and I wasn't too worried about Lin Fan's health. My mind was filled with thoughts of how to approach Liu Yiyi about my departure.
To be honest, I really didn't want to leave Liu Yiyi. I had no idea how long I would be gone, and by the time I returned, Liu Yiyi might have already married someone else!
Sigh! Life can be so frustrating!
On the third day, Zhang Yuru found my coffee shop too exhausting; she and Lin Fan decided to sleep at a nearby hotel while I stayed behind in the coffee shop.
I agreed because sleeping on the sofa for two nights had been quite uncomfortable. Moreover, it was summer, and sharing a roof with two beautiful women while being unable to do anything was a bit unbearable.
In the middle of the night, my phone suddenly rang beside my bed. Rubbing my eyes, I got up to answer it.
On the other end, I heard Zhang Yuru's trembling voice: "Song Fei, Song Fei, please come quickly! There’s really a ghost here, I'm... I'm so scared..."
