I watched as Black Wuchang ran off, my mouth agape. In that moment, I seemed to forget that I was in danger.
But soon, I snapped back to reality.
I needed to go deeper; I had to find out who my mother really was and what had happened when my grandfather came here all those years ago.
I continued running forward, and as I did, I looked up to see a lotus-shaped bed ahead of me. The bed was set on a platform, surrounded by Multicolored Candles that were burning brightly.
The moment I saw that platform, I immediately thought of the woman who had danced in my dreams. She wore Colorful clothing and moved gracefully, unlike any mortal woman.
I walked closer, feeling an overwhelming sense of familiarity in this place.
The Lotus Bed was crafted with exquisite skill and solemnity, evoking a sense of reverence. But I did not bow.
I rushed over; at that moment, I disregarded everything else. I climbed the steps and peered into the bed— it was empty!
"Empty?" My mind went blank. It couldn't be! How could it be empty? Was my mother's body not here?
Just as I was filled with doubt, suddenly, with a loud crash, the Lotus Bed shattered into dust. Then, an ancient and powerful voice echoed in my ears: "Witch Clan Bloodline, leave no one alive—kill!"
I stumbled back a few steps, my head buzzing. Once again, I heard the sound of hooves, the clash of battle, cries of anguish, and the mournful wails echoing around me!
I clutched my head as blood trickled from my nose.
What does this mean?! What is happening?! Who is fighting, and who is crying?!
At that moment, in the distance, a series of scraping sounds began to resonate.
I wiped the blood from my nose and turned to look.
In the corridor, hundreds of green, glimmering eyes lit up! Those eyes were fixed on me, and then they rushed towards me at an alarming speed!
At that moment, I finally realized that these eyes belonged to people! No, to be precise, they were all Ghost Corpses, those who had died in the corridor.
These people wore bizarre clothing—there were Qing Dynasty warriors, merchants from the Ming Dynasty, Japanese Invaders' ghosts, and even long-dead Grave Robbers.
At this moment, all of them had come back to life, charging towards me!
I stepped back, retreating towards the platform.
Over a hundred Losses suddenly sprang to life, and I had no idea why! Their green eyes looked terrifying in this Millennium Tomb.
"Huh?" My gaze suddenly froze as I looked at the group of Losses. Among them, I actually spotted A Cai and the others!
A Cai's eyes were also a ghostly green. He glared at me with bared teeth and quickly ran towards me.
"Why! What is happening?!" I shouted. Was it too much to ask for a clear answer?!
"Awwooo..." came a howl.
Then, the Ugly Black Giant Dog burst forth. It was powerful and majestic as it lunged at the nearest Loss, its body emanating black flames.
The Loss was knocked to the ground by its attack but did not die. More Losses surrounded the black dog in an assault.
I watched the dog in astonishment; I never expected it would take the initiative to come out and help me.
However, it was clearly useless. Despite the dog being quite fierce, it was obviously no match for so many Losses.
I took out the Corpse-Subduing Bell and shook it. The speed of the Losses slowed down a little, but not by much! Their strength was too overwhelming! The Corpse-Subduing Bell only had a minimal restraining effect.
More and more Losses surrounded me.
I couldn't escape at all.
I wanted to give up; at that moment, I felt that death wasn't so terrifying. It was just sad because, in my final moments, I still hadn't uncovered the secrets of my origins.
"Hold on to me!"
A voice called out.
I looked up towards the sound.
A shadow flew towards me from the sky.
It was the woman known as Black Wuchang.
She was using the Flying Claw.
Suddenly, I felt energized. Seeing Black Wuchang flying toward me, I stretched out my arms and wrapped them around her chest.
"Hold on tight!"
Black Wuchang said. Wearing a simple poison mask on her head, she pulled on a rope and swung us away into the distance.
I held on tightly, the sensation far more thrilling than any roller coaster ride.
Our bodies swung through the air for a moment, and then I felt Black Wuchang suddenly release her grip. We both arced through the air, hurtling toward a stone wall.
Black Wuchang was much more impressive than I had imagined. She swiftly drew two dagger-like objects from her sides and plunged them into the stone wall with force.
Then, with me on her back, she began to climb, her hands moving rhythmically as she ascended the steep cliff while carrying me.
Countless Losses below roared at us, but the wall was too steep for them to climb.
I didn’t dare look down; I knew that if I fell now, those crazed creatures would tear me apart. All I could do was hold onto Black Wuchang tightly.
Her movements were agile. After climbing for about two minutes, she kicked forward sharply, revealing a smooth slanted hole ahead—just like the kind described in Tomb Raiding.
Black Wuchang turned and crawled into the hole.
Inside was pitch black.
However, without the Losses around, I felt less terrified.
“Hey! Can you let go of me now? You can’t climb up here by yourself?” Black Wuchang snapped.
“Huh?”
I was taken aback for a moment before realizing what she meant. I loosened my grip and only then did I notice that I had been holding onto her chest.
Unfortunately, I had been too tense earlier to appreciate the feeling. Now that I wanted to experience it… well, it seemed that was just a thought for now.
Black Wuchang gasped for breath and muttered under her breath, "It hurts like hell! Damn it!" After cursing, she quickly turned and crawled out.
I glanced at her and hurriedly followed. The tunnel was dark and twisted, and I crawled for what felt like half an hour before finally seeing light.
Emerging from the tunnel, I found myself surrounded by stones, and beyond that was a massive waterfall.
I couldn't help but admire the predecessors who had dug this tunnel; it must have been over a thousand meters deep. To carve out such a passage in this rocky mountain was truly impressive.
When I finally crawled out, Black Wuchang was already standing there waiting for me.
Breathing heavily, I looked at her with genuine gratitude. "Thank you for saving me once again."
Black Wuchang glanced down at me and asked, "What’s your name? Where do you live?"
"Song Fei, at Donghai University," I replied. "And you, beautiful? I can't just call you Black Wuchang."
She ignored my question and instead asked, "What is your connection to the Witch Clan?"
"Witch Clan? I... I don't know," I said, looking at her in confusion.
She nodded slightly. "Well, whether you know or not, it seems your life is about to take a turn for the worse. So, make sure to live well."
"What do you know?" I suddenly stood up. I needed to uncover the truth. I blocked Black Wuchang's path and pleaded, "Please tell me what's going on! What is the Witch Clan?"
Black Wuchang looked at me, and in the daylight, she appeared even more stunning. I couldn't help but wonder if she was truly human.
"This ancient tomb has clearly been tampered with," Black Wuchang explained. "The tomb owner was supposed to be a Great Witch, but now the body is gone, leaving only traps behind. I don’t know how you have the Witch Clan Bloodline in you, but evidently, your blood triggered the remaining mechanisms, and they want you dead."
I was a bit dazed.
Black Wuchang ignored me as she walked away, saying, "My name is Su Mingyue. If you manage to survive, we might meet again." With that, her figure quickly vanished.
I stared at the silhouette of Mingyue, lost in thought for three seconds, and then my mind jolted back to reality. Right, this wasn't the time to ponder my origins; I had to focus on surviving!
I hurriedly ran out from behind the waterfall.
Outside was a cliff, covered in moss and very slippery.
I swallowed hard, feeling a bit scared. But this wasn’t the time for fear. I took out my Swiss Army knife and rummaged through my bag but couldn’t find any rope; I must have left it in the tent when I fled.
Damn it. I wedged the knife into the crevices of the rocks and slowly began to slide down.
I emerged around four in the afternoon.
After climbing down about three hundred meters and reaching the ground, it was already completely dark.
In the distance, I could hear the occasional howls of wild beasts.
For some reason, I suddenly felt a surge of courage. Holding my Swiss Army knife, I found myself no longer afraid of wolves or wild dogs! Damn it, I've faced Loss packs before; why should I fear these beasts?
With my backpack on, I took advantage of the night and ran quickly in one direction.
I kept running and running.
Eventually, when I was out of breath, I stopped and found a high ground near a large rock to set down my bag.
I casually gathered some wood and set it up behind a rock, then lit a fire. I took out the Fox Meat from my bag and placed it on the fire to roast.
The Fox Meat smelled delicious, and without waiting for it to be fully cooked, I started eating. To be honest, it was really tough, almost like chewing on rubber, but I still managed to eat a whole pound of it.
After finishing, I kicked the fire out, drank some water by the riverbank, and continued running in that direction.
For some reason, after eating the meat, I felt a surge of energy and began to run faster. Finally, around three in the morning, I reached a Main Road.
I followed the Main Road and by six in the morning, I arrived at a small town.
Having not slept all night and constantly on the move, I found myself sitting on a dilapidated Minibus without feeling too tired.
I sat there with my hat pulled down over my face. I wouldn’t make the same mistakes as before; I was determined to survive.
Upon reaching the county seat, I noticed that this was Shiyan County, Hubei. I bought a sleeper ticket to Donghai City.
Lying on the bed, I let out a long sigh. After confirming that there was no danger, I quickly fell into a deep sleep…
