After dinner, A Cai stood up and said, "Alright, let's set off. Everyone, make sure you have your things. This time, we might not return."
"Okay!" the woman replied.
I looked at A Cai and felt it was quite strange. This person, who had killed my grandfather and was known for his violent temper, seemed so calm at a moment when we might not come back. It was infuriating!
After thinking for a moment, I decided it was better to understand the situation clearly. I walked beside A Cai and asked, "A Cai, Boss, where exactly are we going?"
"We're going to the place where your grandfather ended up," A Cai squinted his eyes and didn't hide anything from me.
I was taken aback. "The tomb where my grandfather went? The one where everyone else died, and only my grandfather survived?"
"Yes," A Cai said, hands behind his back, not looking at me as he continued walking. "Back then, your grandfather ran out in a frenzy and returned to my house. My grandfather kept that news under wraps. I was the one who took care of your grandfather back then, so I learned some bits of information over the years. I've been searching this area and started going through historical records. Heh, perhaps the truth will be quite interesting."
I didn't understand what A Cai was thinking. "Since you've already found this place and located that grave, why do you still need to drag me along? Oh, and why did you kill your grandfather?"
"Because he was a coward. He grew old and weak but his desire for control only intensified," A Cai smirked slightly. "He always wanted to cover up certain things, but why should it be that way? The truth of history should be revealed!"
With that, A Cai quickened his pace and moved to the front. He held an instrument in his hand and began searching for a path.
I rubbed my nose and noticed Professor Zhao Jian nearby. I hurried over and asked, "Professor Zhao, whose ancient tomb are we heading to?"
Zhao Jian shook his head. "I don't know; there's no record of it in history. However, I believe it will be very important—crucial even."
"Give me the details! You brought me here under false pretenses; now tell me as a form of atonement," I insisted.
Zhao Jian adjusted his glasses and said, "First, I don't feel like I'm committing a crime. You're the key. If I don't trick you into coming here, then they'll either forcibly kidnap you or kill you to take your blood. So the outcome is the same. Second, I don't know much, but I want to establish a connection with the fall of the Shang Dynasty and the rise of the Zhou Dynasty."
"Ah?!" I was taken aback. "That's so ancient."
Zhao Jian chuckled, "Exactly because it's ancient, that's why the deceivers can enjoy the worship of people throughout history."
"What do you mean?"
Zhao Jian simply asked, "What do you think of Zhou Wenwang and Zhou Wuwang?"
"They're impressive," I replied. My history wasn't great, but I had done some research recently and knew quite a bit about the founding emperor of the Zhou Dynasty. "They overthrew the barbaric Shang Dynasty and established the Great Zhou, unifying Huaxia, and they created Bagua and Zhouyi. Of course they're impressive."
"Heh heh..." Zhao Jian just laughed twice and then added, "Deceivers!"
"Ah? Who's the deceiver?" I asked, puzzled.
Zhao Jian didn't respond further.
At that moment, we heard water flowing ahead, followed by A Cai's voice saying, "Everyone quiet down, focus, and follow me. We'll be there soon."
In front of us was a wide river, not far from a waterfall.
A Cai led the way toward the waterfall. I found myself squeezed among the crowd and had no way to escape.
After we rounded a bend in the water, each of us tied a rope around our waists that connected us together, and then we began to climb up the cliff.
To be honest, although the cliff wasn't particularly steep, it had been worn smooth by the constant splashes of the waterfall, making it covered in moss and very slippery. I found it nearly impossible to climb.
However, the group led by A Cai moved quickly ahead. The rope around my waist was pulled tight by those on either side, and I felt as if I was being hoisted up by them all the way.
Once we reached the top, A Cai felt around for a moment before saying, "This way." He then pushed aside a patch of grass and crawled into a hole.
I was in the middle of the group, surrounded by people, with no chance to escape.
Inside the cave, it was pitch black until someone lit a Cold Light Stick. With so many people around, I felt less afraid. After all, I was already facing death; whether I was scared or not didn’t really matter anymore.
At first, the cave was narrow enough that we had to crawl, but eventually we could bend down to walk. As we continued deeper, the passage opened up and became quite spacious, resembling a cavern.
A Cai whispered, "We're almost there!" I could hear the excitement in his voice.
Before long, we suddenly came across a massive Monster Stone Sculpture!
I looked ahead and shivered in fear.
What lay before us was a creature—no, to be precise, a monster—because it resembled a human but was definitely not one; it had an appearance that seemed like a fusion of human and ghost!
It was a gigantic monster's head with its mouth wide open. The entire statue stood at least seven meters tall—about two stories high. The creature's mouth was enormous, measuring two to three meters across.
The head of the monster was covered in moss.
The whole thing appeared dark and shadowy, and its mouth was an even deeper black where nothing could be seen!
I don't know why, but when I shone the Powerful Flashlight towards it, the monster's head didn't reflect any light at all, as if it could absorb the light source. This made it impossible to see the exact shape of this creature.
It was eerie; it wasn't just me who felt fear—several people nearby were clearly frightened as well, their footsteps slowing down.
At that moment, A Cai in front stopped and said, "Song Fei, come over here."
I didn't resist and walked over.
A Cai waved to the woman, saying, "Take him over there and have him reach into the hole in the door."
"Okay." The woman listened to A Cai without question. She grabbed me and headed toward the monster's mouth. The others waited outside, clearly afraid of any danger.
As we walked, I asked, "Sister, aren't you scared?"
The woman only tightened her grip on my neck and remained silent. Her strength was considerable; I could tell without thinking that she must have trained.
When we reached the monster's mouth, she pushed me forward, sending me into its maw.
The moment I stepped inside, my knees buckled, and I fell to the ground with a thud. It felt as if two hands were pressing down on my shoulders. Everything around me was pitch black, and ahead stood a dimly lit bronze door—ancient, vast, mottled, yet filled with an imposing presence.
I swallowed hard and struggled to stand up.
The woman seemed to feel a great pressure as well; she helped me up, and together we walked toward the door.
The door was located within the monster's mouth; it was a pair of Bronze Doors adorned with two monstrous faces—half-human, half-demon—looking terrifying.
Above the large door on the right, there was a dark hole.
The woman spoke, "Put your right arm in there."
I gulped nervously. Since I was going to die anyway, I didn't refuse and simply extended my hand into the hole.
Inside, a chilling cold enveloped me, and in that moment, I felt my arm go numb from the frost.
At the same time, suddenly, it felt as if something had bitten down on my wrist.
I let out a scream as a sharp pain shot from my wrist to my heart, spreading throughout my body. Then, the numbness in my arm faded away.
Just then, a low sound echoed, like a distant sigh from thousands of years ago, and the Bronze Door slowly creaked open.
Inside was pitch black and shrouded in mist.
Seeing this, I realized it was the perfect moment to escape. I leaped into the gap of the Bronze Door.
"Come back!" The woman's reaction was much quicker than I had anticipated. Just as I jumped in, she grabbed the hem of my clothes.
I was terrified and struggled fiercely.
At that moment, the woman suddenly let go and took a step back. She shouted, "The mist is toxic; everyone put on your masks!"
I glanced back and quickly ran off, not caring whether the mist was poisonous or not.
The mist carried a foul stench, reminiscent of decaying corpses, and it was so thick that I could barely see what lay ahead. However, I couldn't afford to dwell on that; I charged forward into the darkness.
The toxic fog was indeed unpleasant, but I didn't feel too affected by it. I figured this mist might be mixed with something like Corpse Poison. After all, I wasn't afraid of Zombie bites, so naturally, I wouldn't fear this poisonous fog either.
I ran quickly, anxious that A Cai and the others would catch up to me.
"Thump Thump Thump..."
The sound of gunfire echoed behind me.
I was certainly more frightened now, but the mist was so dense that they couldn't see me at all.
After a few steps, suddenly, I stumbled; there were stairs ahead! My body tumbled forward uncontrollably...
