Time had indeed grown late. 0

After A Cai pushed Fourth Uncle away, he returned shortly and invited me to rest in the guest room. 0

I readily agreed, as I was feeling quite disheveled, with bruises all over and my body still damp. 0

Liang Shengqiu had gone home alone, leaving me in Fourth Uncle's house. 0

The guest room was equipped with a private bathroom. Although it was a guest room, it had everything one could need, including a clean set of workout clothes. 0

I was so touched that I nearly shed tears. I placed the Peach Wood Box on the bed and then entered the bathroom to wash up properly. 0

My body was covered in wounds, many of which were scraped open. When the water hit them, I winced in pain; however, these injuries were shallow and I didn't have to worry about infection. 0

After washing up, I tossed my old clothes into the trash can. I wiped myself down casually and climbed into bed naked. 0

Lying there, I opened the Peach Wood Box and took out the accessory once more. It had a peculiar shape, and I couldn't quite determine what material it was made from. It was neither copper nor wood, nor was it jade or stone. It resembled the texture of a turtle shell, but I couldn't be sure. 0

As I examined this object, I wondered why I had been born with it. 0

It was circular, with a creature that was half human and half fish standing inside. The creature's two hands supported itself above while its fish tail connected below. 0

Of course, this wasn't exactly a mermaid; it was difficult to describe precisely what it was. 0

I lay in bed, staring at this thing, my confusion deepening, and then a cold sweat broke out on my back! The Shangzhou Tomb! If I was really discovered in the Shangzhou Tomb, then I... would I not be a monster? No wonder Fourth Uncle's first instinct upon seeing me was to touch my head and my backside, confirming that I was indeed human. It seems he had suspected my identity before! 0

I always thought it was just my mother who abandoned me in the graveyard, but now it seems things are not so simple! 0

So many people went tomb raiding with my grandfather, yet they all died in the tomb. My grandfather returned alone, mad and frantic, but he couldn't leave me; as soon as he did, he would go insane. What on earth did he encounter in that tomb? And what exactly is my identity? 0

Lying in bed, my mind grew more chaotic. I thought of the happy times spent with my grandfather, living together, and then of the miserable days after his death when my adoptive father and mother forced me to work. I thought of Shantai Village, the Yinshan Seven Ghosts, and that beautiful figure like a fairy—Black Wuchang. 0

Lost in thought, I fell into a deep sleep. 0

In my dreams, I felt my body burning with heat, yet I didn't wake up. I heard what sounded like thousands of soldiers and horses roaring, countless wails echoing in my ears—piercing and desolate. Still, I didn't wake up; I was too exhausted and needed rest. 0

"Dinglinglingling..." 0

The urgent ringtone of my phone rang out. 0

I jolted awake. 0

The sun shone brightly outside the window, invigorating me. 0

I stretched my limbs and picked up my phone to check; it was Qin Hai calling. 0

I answered, and Qin Hai informed me that he had settled his mother and asked where I was because he wanted to come over. 0

I quickly told Qin Hai that he didn’t need to come; I had completely handled the situation with Ghost Mask. I asked him to wait in Donghai City while I returned to discuss things in detail. 0

After hanging up the phone, I stretched lazily and then reached for that strange item. 0

After searching for a moment, I froze. I suddenly realized that the object was missing. 0

I hurriedly searched along the edge of the bed, remembering that I had been holding it last night. Eventually, I had been too tired and fell asleep, so it must still be on the bed. 0

I searched carefully three times, but it wasn’t on the bed, nor on the pillow, and not even underneath. 0

I started to panic; that was the only item my mother had left me, the only proof of my identity. How could it be lost?! 0

I meticulously searched two more times, but still found nothing. 0

Sweat began to bead on my forehead as I looked around. The window was closed, and the door should have remained shut; could someone have stolen my belongings? 0

Just as I was thinking this, the door to my bedroom creaked open. 0

A Cai stood there, his face filled with anger. 0

“Uncle Acai, I…” I began to explain about my missing item. 0

“Get out!” A Cai shouted at me furiously. 0

I was taken aback, staring at A Cai, unsure of what was going on with this guy. 0

A Cai pointed at me and said, "Now, put on your clothes, grab your things, and get out of my house!" 0

With that, A Cai slammed the door shut. 0

What the hell! Is this guy crazy? 0

However, after being yelled at by A Cai, I realized it wasn't a good situation. I quickly changed into the new sportswear in the room and stuffed my belongings into my backpack. 0

As I stepped out of the bedroom, I heard crying outside. When I inquired about it, I learned that Fourth Uncle had died—he passed away in bed. 0

I stood there in shock. Just yesterday, Fourth Uncle had been laughing with me and seemed perfectly fine. How could he suddenly be gone?! And where did my item go? 0

Damn it! 0

While I was still pondering this, A Cai approached me with a dark expression. He stood in front of me and said, "Now, leave my house. I don't want to see you again." 0

"Sir, why are you targeting me?" My tone was sharp now; technically, I should have called him Uncle A Cai out of respect, but at this moment, I didn't feel like being accommodating. 0

A Cai narrowed his eyes. "Because you are an ominous person. If you don't come here, my grandfather would still be fine." With that, he waved his hand toward a butler and ordered, "Uncle Fu, throw this person out." 0

I was forcibly pushed out of Fourth Uncle's house. 0

My mind was in a mess. How did this happen? My jade pendant was still left at his house! However, I probably wouldn't be able to find it again since I had already searched that bedroom back and forth several times without any luck. 0

How did Fourth Uncle die? 0

I carried my backpack, feeling a bit lost. 0

"Why don't you head back first?" a voice came from behind. 0

I turned around and saw Liang Shengqiu. 0

Liang Shengqiu stood in front of Fourth Uncle's door with his hands behind his back, gazing at the old house. He then shook his head and said, "Come on, I'll walk you home." 0

I followed Liang Shengqiu and asked, "Grandpa Liang, what's going on? Also, the jade pendant Fourth Uncle gave me seems to be missing." 0

Liang Shengqiu paused for a moment, then shook his head and continued walking. He murmured, "The more a person is suppressed, the more terrifying they become when they finally explode. Fourth Uncle was wrong!" 0

"What do you mean by that, Grandpa Liang?" I looked at Liang Shengqiu. 0

He didn't respond immediately; his expression also seemed a bit lost. Once we reached the street, he turned to me and said, "Song Fei, thank you for helping my granddaughter yesterday. You should leave this place. If there's nothing urgent, try not to come back again. Oh, here’s ten thousand yuan. Take it; I know your grandfather didn’t leave you much." 0

Liang Shengqiu stuffed the money into my backpack and turned to leave. 0

I watched him go, feeling a mix of warmth and heaviness in my heart. 0

Suddenly, I froze, recalling what Liang Shengqiu had said before: the more a person is suppressed, the more terrifying their outburst will be. The person Liang Shengqiu referred to seemed to be... A Cai! 0

My mind was a bit chaotic. Liang Shengqiu definitely meant this. When I saw A Cai yesterday, I thought he was just a butler, standing behind Fourth Uncle, speaking little, like a dutiful and respectful servant. 0

Fourth Uncle only wanted what was best for A Cai; he simply wanted him to grow up and never let him get involved in business matters. 0

However, the real A Cai might not be as Fourth Uncle envisioned. He was a person with ambitions, yearning to achieve great things. When his aspirations were suppressed by Fourth Uncle's love for a long time... 0

I looked again at Fourth Uncle's courtyard and realized that perhaps Fourth Uncle truly died at the hands of his own grandson. If that were the case, then the jade pendant... could very likely have been stolen by A Cai's people! 0

I gritted my teeth, but I was too weak now; I didn't even have the courage to confront A Cai. Of course, I lacked the strength as well! 0

Liang Shengqiu wanted me to leave here, probably fearing that I would be harmed by A Cai. 0

I took a taxi to the train station. I had to admit that the ten thousand yuan Liang Shengqiu gave me helped solve my immediate problem. 0

The train ride was bumpy, and by the time I returned to Donghai City, it was already afternoon. 0

I called Qin Hai, and soon enough, he arrived at the train station on his police motorcycle and took me directly to the East Sea City Public Security Bureau. 0

At the police station, I recounted the events that happened in Siyang County's Stone Pot Town to Qin Hai and Chen Shan. 0

Qin Hai slammed his hand on the table, lamenting, "Ah, what a pity! If I had gone, we could have solved the crematorium case much more smoothly. What a shame I've missed my chance for fame!" 0

Chen Shan kicked Qin Hai and looked at me. "Alright, not bad. You're a good prospect." With that, Chen Shan turned to leave. 0

I quickly called out to him. "Captain Comrade, I think you forgot something." 0

"What is it?" Chen Shan asked, looking back at me. 0

I pulled out the train and taxi receipts from the past few days and grinned. "You said you'd reimburse me, and also reward me with five hundred bucks." 0

Both Chen Shan and Qin Hai laughed. 0

Seeing their smug expressions made me angry. I slammed my hand on the table. "You two have no idea how hard it is to manage expenses! Hurry up with the reimbursement. Once I get the money, I'm heading back to school. If you don't give me the cash today, I won't leave." 0

Chen Shan winked at me and then took the pile of reimbursement forms and walked out. 0
