Yama's Wedding
Xue stared at the woman with wide eyes, realizing he needed to find a place to question her thoroughly.
After a moment of thought, Xue decided to take her to his residence.
"Yao Guang, are you asleep?" Xue gently knocked on the door. Perhaps even he didn’t know how gentle his expression appeared to Liu Qing at that moment.
Yao Guang was preparing for bed inside when she heard Xue's voice and hurriedly opened the door.
"Xue, is something wrong?"
Yao Guang watched as Xue entered the room, but his actions seemed a bit strange as he sat down in a chair. He waved his hand outside and said, "Come in!"
Seeing all this, Yao Guang felt a bit uneasy. There was nothing outside, so what was Xue doing?
With trepidation, Yao Guang asked, "Xue, what are you doing?"
"Oh, I forgot. As a mortal, you can't see it," Xue said as he waved his hand over Yao Guang's eyes. A flash of light passed by, somewhat blinding her. Rubbing her eyes, Yao Guang looked outside; where there had been an empty space just moments ago, now stood a Red-Clad Woman.
"W-What is this..." Yao Guang pointed at the woman in shock.
"This is someone I just brought out from Xiao Yao Hao's room. Don't worry; she's already dead," Xue explained.
Upon hearing Xue's words, Yao Guang silently cursed him. It was precisely because she was dead that it was concerning; after all, this was a ghost. Who knew if it would suddenly lash out in madness? Having spent too long in the human realm, Yao Guang had grown somewhat fearful of beings that did not belong to the realm of mortals or immortals.
"You brought me here for what purpose?" The woman looked at the two of them as if she were being ignored and softly inquired.
Xue and Yao Guang turned their attention to her.
"Who are you? Why do you linger in this mansion even after death?" Xue gestured for Yao Guang to sit down as he prepared to question the woman carefully.
"My name is Liu Qing," the woman said after stating her name and then fell silent.
"Go on, why are you quiet?" Seeing this woman who called herself Liu Qing, Yao Guang eagerly pressed for more information.
Xue observed Yao Guang's anxious demeanor and gently patted her hand, signaling her to calm down and let Liu Qing think carefully. For some reason, despite her earlier urgency, Yao Guang felt a sense of peace wash over her under Xue's gesture.
The woman tilted her head, looking at the two with confusion. "It's not that I don't want to, but I just can't remember."
"What can't you remember?" Xue observed Liu Qing, sensing she wasn't lying.
"I can't remember how I died, nor why I'm wandering around this villa. There are so many things I don't recall; all I remember is that my name is Liu Qing."
"Then why were you in Xiao Yao Hao's room? Why does he have your portrait?"
Yao Guang listened to Xue's questions, pondering that this woman seemed to have some connection to Xiao Yao Hao. However, he was unsure of the nature of their relationship. Given Xiao Yao Hao's unpleasant demeanor, it was likely he wasn't a good person.
"I... I really don't remember. I just feel like he seems familiar, but at the same time, I feel afraid of him. That's why I often find myself near him, yet I can't recall anything," Liu Qing said painfully.
"Xue, she really seems to know nothing. I think we should start by investigating Xiao Yao Hao."
Looking at Liu Qing's expression, Xue agreed with Yao Guang's assessment; this woman appeared innocent.
"You can leave for now. If there are any questions, I'll come to ask you anytime."
Upon hearing Xue's words, Liu Qing didn't immediately turn to leave. Instead, she stared blankly at Yao Guang.
Seeing her expression, Yao Guang realized that this woman seemed to want to be alone with him but couldn't say so in front of Xue.
So, Yao Guang smiled at Xue. "Xue, why don't you let Liu Qing stay? I quite like her. Can she keep me company tonight?"
Yao Guang's request made it hard for Xue to refuse. He nodded but warned Yao Guang, "Just be careful. If anything happens, call for me." As he left, he glanced at Liu Qing a few times and discreetly warned her when Yao Guang wasn't looking.
Once Xue finally left, Liu Qing relaxed immediately.
She had found the man particularly unapproachable while this woman seemed much friendlier.
"He’s gone now; you’re free," Yao Guang said as she watched Liu Qing breathe a sigh of relief. It seemed Liu Qing posed no threat at all.
"No, I don’t have anything to offer," Liu Qing replied with a smile as she sat next to Yao Guang and waved her hand lightly.
"What? You didn’t want something from me that made you send Xue away?" Yao Guang looked at Liu Qing incredulously, feeling a bit disappointed. Had she known, she wouldn't have let Xue leave; she could have talked with him a little longer.
"Hey, what’s your name? You all seem like extraordinary people; what are you doing here?" Liu Qing asked as she shook her head and turned her attention to Yao Guang.
"My name is Yao Guang. We, we can be considered immortals."
"Immortals? I knew you couldn't be ordinary people. But what brings you here?" Liu Qing responded to Yao Guang's revelation without a hint of disbelief. Instead, her nonchalant attitude made Yao Guang feel a strong affinity for this woman.
Caught up in the moment, Yao Guang impulsively shared their background and purpose with Liu Qing. She couldn't quite understand why, but there was something enchanting about Liu Qing that compelled her to reveal her innermost secrets.
After listening to Yao Guang, Liu Qing nodded in understanding. "Oh, I see! You're here to save someone, so you need that... whatever it is, right? Don't worry, I'm familiar with this mansion. I can definitely help you find that item."
Liu Qing's bold declaration brought a smile to Yao Guang's face. Liu Qing truly was a wonderful person. "Liu Qing, do you really not remember anything from before?" Yao Guang asked curiously, wondering what kind of life such a talented woman had led.
"I really don't remember," Liu Qing replied, feigning distress. "But I think I'm quite happy as I am now. I can come and go freely. At first, I wanted to regain my memories, but then I looked at this mansion and thought that they probably aren't living very happily!" Liu Qing's calm demeanor filled Yao Guang with admiration. Unbeknownst to them, they had talked through the night, deepening their bond.
As dawn broke, the two continued their cheerful conversation.
"Madam! Madam! Open the door! Something terrible has happened!"
The voice of a servant from outside the mansion startled Yao Guang.
"What happened?"
