The Nameless Old Man fixed his gaze on Ye Yu for a moment, and a few strands of deep blue light flickered in his eyes. Then, with a hint of excitement in his tone, he said, "Leaf, I want to know what crime you committed to end up here!"
Ye Yu looked up at the Nameless Old Man and replied without hesitation, "The Silver Dragon Guard has been charged with espionage and endangering the safety of the Federation! They brought me here without any trial!"
"Hahaha! Few of those caught in the Federation's territory by the Empire aren't charged with that crime. They don't even bother to innovate; my ears are getting calloused from hearing it!"
The Nameless Old Man suddenly threw his head back and laughed heartily, even pretending to dig at his ears as if they had indeed developed calluses.
"Actually, I was born in the Federation. My father is a Federation citizen, and my mother is a Blue Marked Person." Ye Yu's expression shifted slightly as he revealed his true background. After all, there was still a difference between Federation citizens and Empire citizens; he didn't want any misunderstandings later on.
"Oh? What about your parents?" The Nameless Old Man's expression grew serious, seemingly taken aback.
"They have passed away." Ye Yu's voice trembled slightly as memories flooded back of the blood-red light on Freedom Mountain in the Federation. Even after ten years, those scenes still haunted him in nightmares.
The Nameless Old Man seemed to recall something but did not press further. Instead, he spoke with a hint of sarcasm, "The Federation claims to embrace all civilizations, yet for mixed-bloods like you, they still deal harshly. They dare to mock my Blue Seal Empire as a barbaric nation!
You should know that even in the imperial capital, many of your Federation people live there. The Empire treats them far better than the Federation treats its own citizens!"
Hearing the Nameless Old Man's words, Ye Yu's face darkened. He knew well that he had narrowly escaped execution thanks to covert help from the Zhou family. Even so, in the records of the Federation, he was merely listed as deceased.
"May I ask if you know whether I can apply for a lawyer given my situation?" Ye Yu pondered for a moment before continuing to inquire while secretly contemplating his future plans.
A flicker of sympathy crossed the Nameless Old Man's eyes as he stretched lazily and replied, "You think you can afford a lawyer when you don't even have the right to be judged?
Moreover, given the thousand-year war between the Federation and the Empire, if a Federation lawyer knew he was defending a Blue-Stamped Spy, do you really think he would take this case seriously?"
Ye Yu sighed inwardly, realizing that if he wanted to get out, he would have to rely on himself. He looked up at the small window and then surveyed his surroundings, his eyes darting as if contemplating some plan.
"Kid, don’t think about escaping! In Wasteland Prison over countless years, the farthest anyone has gotten is just ten kilometers from here before being recaptured!" The Nameless Old Man seemed to see through Ye Yu's thoughts and chuckled ominously as he offered a "friendly" reminder.
Hearing the words of the Nameless Old Man, Ye Yu's face flickered with a glimmer of hope as he quickly asked, "So, this person almost succeeded?"
"Hmph, almost succeeding is still not succeeding; he was caught and brought back!" The Nameless Old Man shot Ye Yu a glance filled with sarcasm.
"Regardless, there are no walls that cannot be escaped from; it all depends on how determined the person trying to escape is!" As a member of the Special Forces, Ye Yu had undergone extensive training in survival under dire circumstances. At least at this moment, he felt confident in his abilities. After all, even the strength of an ordinary person could provide him with considerable help.
A spark flashed in the Nameless Old Man's eyes as he stroked his long-neglected beard and said, "Although the empire's martial arts are profound and mysterious, you are merely at the second tier of basic level. Do you really think you can escape from here?"
Ye Yu was taken aback by this revelation but quickly regained his composure. The man before him was also one of the Blue Marked People, and being imprisoned here certainly indicated that he was not an ordinary individual! Over the years, Ye Yu had been practicing martial arts alone, making slow progress. The first Blue Marked Person he encountered, Huaying, had nearly killed him. Now this old man appeared to be skilled in martial arts as well, and his level was undoubtedly high.
There existed a subtle sense among Martial Arts Practitioners of the Blue Marked People; higher-level practitioners could sense the training level of lower-level ones. However, lower-level practitioners could not gauge the capabilities of higher-level ones.
"May I ask, sir, what tier your martial arts have reached?" Ye Yu scrutinized the elderly man before him again but could discern nothing particularly special about him. He knew too little about martial arts but understood that it would be crucial for his survival in this world.
The Nameless Old Man lifted his eyelids and glanced at Ye Yu with some impatience. "I'm going to sleep now; if there's nothing important, don't bother me!"
Just as Ye Yu was about to say something else, the old man closed his eyes and maintained a cross-legged sitting position, ignoring Ye Yu completely.
"It seems I'll have to rely on myself." A glint of determination shone in Ye Yu's eyes as he carefully considered his options. However, he still had no clear understanding of the prison's layout or its guards' strength.
Time passed without him noticing; sunlight gradually faded outside the window. Suddenly, a small oval-shaped Silver Sphere appeared in Ye Yu's hand.
This was given to him by Doctor Cao after he regained consciousness in the hospital. Doctor Cao had informed Ye Yu that aside from his simple clothing, there was this Silver Sphere in his pocket. At that time, Ye Yu hadn't fully grasped its significance, but looking at the familiar material of the Silver Sphere now gave him some clues.
The sphere looked like silver but wasn't quite silver; it felt almost weightless in his hand and occasionally shimmered with a silvery light as if it were alive. Ye Yu had secretly tested this object using hospital equipment, but strangely enough, under examination by the machines, it seemed to vanish entirely—nothing showed up at all.
This was also why he had been able to bring it inside so smoothly; he understood that this Silver Sphere had a significant connection to Jin Shan. Jin Shan had helped him escape from the Silver Dragon Guard in an instant, and he remembered those last words clearly. Unfortunately, Jin Shan's whereabouts were now unknown, leaving only this Silver Sphere behind.
Ye Yu pondered for a moment, a vague suspicion forming in his mind. However, as he looked at the Silver Sphere before him, he shook his head and pushed those thoughts aside. He had no idea when he would see Jin Shan again. Nevertheless, since the other party had saved him twice, he felt compelled to help Jin Shan fulfill that initial request: to find a high-purity Energy Crystal.
Yet, high-purity Energy Crystals were strictly managed even by the military, and given Ye Yu's current situation, the only way to obtain one would be to escape first. With a sigh, Ye Yu grabbed a piece of cloth and wrapped the thumb-sized Silver Sphere in it. He then wove a simple rope from some torn bed sheets to secure the opening of the wrapped sphere tightly. In this way, he fashioned it into a pendant that he hung around his neck.
Once he completed this task, the last rays of sunlight disappeared completely, plunging the Prison Cell into darkness. The outside noise, which had been somewhat lively, quickly fell silent as if everyone had agreed to hush at that moment.
Night had fallen, and it was naturally the time when the minds of those imprisoned—each with their own stories—were most active. Night was the best cover and the moment these people living in darkness were most eager to exploit. Ye Yu was no exception; he wanted to escape, but unfortunately, he had not even stepped out of his cell door yet.
Prisons were meant to redeem those who had committed crimes, but no one wished to linger in such a place of lost freedom. Ye Yu was no different; he was innocent and did not wish for redemption. His greatest crime at present was being trapped behind bars; what he needed to do now was escape—that was his self-redemption.
With this thought in mind, Ye Yu moved swiftly, his body gliding effortlessly as he pressed against the prison wall. Suddenly, his arm stretched out as if it had grown longer, and his slender fingers hooked onto a slightly protruding spot.
In the next moment, Ye Yu twisted his waist slightly and propelled himself toward the wall with a window. Like a gecko, he twisted and climbed up to the window ledge.
Ye Yu cautiously poked his head out to look outside but could only see an expanse of darkness in the Prison Square below. It appeared to be an area designated for fresh air. A few beams from Searchlights swept across the ground, illuminating nothing but barren earth.
After observing for several minutes, Ye Yu noticed that there were only four Searchlights on either side of the square, each accompanied by a small loft that could barely accommodate four people. However, the Searchlights did not illuminate continuously; they followed a specific pattern and illuminated the entire square roughly once every minute.
Additionally, through this window, Ye Yu observed that the walls enclosing their Prison Cell were about thirty centimeters thick and constructed from an extremely hard-looking rock. Even with all his strength applied with both hands, he could only leave a shallow imprint on its surface. He estimated that even if his physical skills reached the Fifth Stage, he would still be unable to break through such hard rock.
Having gleaned no more useful information for now, Ye Yu exhaled softly and then took a deep breath. In the next moment, with a gentle push against the wall with both hands, he floated down like a feather without making a sound.
