The safe house was eerily quiet. Qin Yu lay on the bed, her breathing finally steady. The doctor had said she had lost too much blood, but her life was saved.
I sat by her bedside, looking at the data on the USB Drive. Zhang Lei and the Technical Team were working overtime to decrypt the information. With each layer they uncovered, more shocking revelations emerged.
"The evidence is irrefutable," Zhang Lei adjusted his glasses. "Li Wei has registered dozens of shell companies around the world over the years, using Origin Awakening World for money transfers. The smallest transaction is half a million, while the largest amounts to a staggering 1.5 billion."
"It's not just money laundering," I pointed to an encrypted file. "Look at this project codename: 'Deep Control.' They are collecting user data in the virtual world to build behavioral models, then manipulating financial markets in the real world."
"Is this data... real?" Li Jun leaned in to take a look. "If it's true, they have successfully influenced at least three major financial decisions."
I nodded silently. Qin Yu was right; Li Wei's ambitions went far beyond this. What he wanted was a virtual empire capable of controlling reality.
Suddenly, with a ping, Zhang Lei's computer popped up an encrypted email.
"It's a timed message set by Qin Yu," he quickly scanned the content, his face turning pale. "This is bad; Li Wei has activated the backup plan!"
"What backup plan?"
"They implanted a Self-Destruct Program in the main server of Origin Awakening World. If their plan fails, they will trigger this program to completely destroy the entire platform." Zhang Lei pointed at the screen. "The countdown has already begun—there are less than six hours left!"
A chill ran down my spine. If Origin Awakening World collapsed, not only would hundreds of billions in assets vanish in an instant, but the Global Financial Market would also be impacted. At that point, Li Wei could slip away unnoticed.
"Is it possible to hack into the main server?"
Zhang Lei shook his head. "The main server is located three floors underground in the Headquarters Building of the Origin Awakening World, physically isolated. There's no way to get in unless..."
"Unless we go there ourselves," I interjected. "Li Wei is currently wanted by the police, and his access should have been frozen. But Wang Zhiyuan is still around; if we can convince him..."
"That's too risky!" Li Jun exclaimed anxiously. "The headquarters is on high alert, and who knows if Wang Zhiyuan will cooperate?"
"I have a plan." A weak voice interrupted. It was Qin Yu, who had somehow woken up.
"You need to rest," I said.
"There's no time for that." She struggled to sit up. "Li Wei has more backup plans than you realize. If we don't stop them, the consequences will be unimaginable."
She pulled out a microchip from her pocket. "This is a backdoor I left when I participated in the system design years ago. It can bypass the biometric security and grant direct access to the control room."
"You had everything prepared?" I was taken aback.
Qin Yu smiled bitterly. "For the past two years, I've been waiting for this day. Li Wei ruined my life, but he doesn't know that he's not the only one operating in the shadows."
Looking into her determined eyes, I suddenly understood something. This game had never been just a confrontation between us and Li Wei; it was the endgame between two opponents who had been playing for countless years.
Now, our task was to assist General Qin Yu.
"Let's move," I said as I stood up. "Zhang Lei will handle technical support, and Li Jun will lead the team for backup."
"I'll go too," Qin Yu said.
"No way!" We replied in unison.
"It’s necessary," her tone left no room for argument. "The chip needs my biological information to activate. And..." She paused, "This is a matter between me and Li Wei; it must be settled by me personally."
The room fell silent. Finally, I nodded, "Alright. But you have to promise me not to overexert yourself."
"Don't worry," she smiled slightly. "I've been waiting for this day long enough."
At 4 AM, our car stopped near the Headquarters Building of the Origin Awakening World. The sky was still dark, but the building was brightly lit. Clearly, Li Wei's escape had raised alarms among the higher-ups.
"Are you all ready?" I looked at everyone in the car.
They all nodded.
"Then let’s get started." I opened my notebook and pulled up the floor plan of the building. "Operation Codename: Endgame."
The timer displayed: 4 hours and 28 minutes until the Self-Destruct Program initiated.
