Lin Yi had imagined countless times what it would feel like to reunite with her. He wondered if he would be harsh with Li Qiweng, if he would question her, or even if he would kill her on the spot! Even when he learned the truth, he thought he had forgotten Li Qiweng. Upon their reunion, he believed he would only see her as a familiar stranger. However, when Li Qiweng called out to him sincerely once more, he realized that the closed-off heart he thought he had for her was merely an illusion. His heart had never truly been closed to Li Qiweng; it had always been open. This time, when the warmth returned to Li Qiweng's face, Lin Yi knew he had been wrong all along. The feelings that occupied his heart for Ying Sa were actually of a different nature.
"Head... hurts..." Li Qiweng slowly opened her eyes. When she first saw Lin Yi, she instinctively revealed her most vulnerable side to him. She knew that although this man sometimes seemed overly cautious, at critical moments, he was the one she could trust the most. Lin Yi gently infused a trace of energy into Li Qiweng's body and suddenly realized that she had become an ordinary person.
"Mr. Lin Yi, I did my best. Miss Li's condition is very serious. Although I have purified the Zombie Virus from her body, all her energy has dissipated as well. As for any other aftereffects, I think we will need to observe for a while longer," said Xiao Hai, whose once radiant face was now exceptionally pale. If not for the two Diviners supporting her from behind, she might have collapsed.
The two Diviners looked at Lin Yi with unfriendly expressions; if they hadn't seen his impressive strength, they might have sought justice for Xiao Hai right then and there.
"Thank you, Sea Maiden. This has truly been troublesome. If you need any help in the future, just let me know. I, Lin Yi, will never refuse what I can do!" These Diviners belonged to the Resistance and were indeed exceptional within it. While their divine light was powerful enough to purify the Zombie Virus, it likely wouldn't suffice against High-Level Zombies if used all at once. More often than not, these Diviners played a stabilizing role in society by giving people hope—hope that fueled motivation—especially for high-level warriors who were unfortunate enough to contract the Zombie Virus but hadn't fully undergone Corpseification yet; they could still be saved with the help of a Diviner's Purifying Light.
"Mr. Lin Yi is a hero against Zombies, and Xiao Hai previously misunderstood him and almost made a grave mistake. Here, Xiao Hai apologizes to Mr. Lin Yi," she said now with a demeanor far from her previous innocence and tranquility; instead, she appeared ethereal and lost between reality and ideals.
"Regardless, thank you again, Sea Maiden!" Although Lin Yi felt it sounded strange to say so, it was undeniable that someone had saved Li Qiweng's life. Initially distant in their first meeting, Xiao Hai now seemed more human and guilty towards Lin Yi.
"You're too kind. If there's nothing else, we'll take our leave." Xiao Hai's face grew even paler as if she might faint at any moment; the two Diviners behind her looked anxious as well. Lin Yi bowed slightly to Xiao Hai and said, "Then I won't see you off."
Though he claimed not to see them off far, he still accompanied them to the entrance before calling Wang Bo to help escort Xiao Hai back to the Resistance headquarters. Afterward, Lin Yi returned to the secret chamber where Jones and others were taking care of Li Qiweng while Douglas and Old Bai stood guard outside with an air of keeping strangers at bay.
As soon as Lin Yi reached the door of the secret chamber, he saw Ying Sa standing there with a smile on her face as she looked at him. "Darling, you've worked hard! Let me take care of Sister Li!" At that moment, Lin Yi felt helpless about how to resolve this situation; although Ying Sa smiled at him, the tears in her eyes betrayed her true feelings.
Lin Yi knew he had a choice to make—how would he choose? Li Qiweng hadn't truly betrayed him; Ying Sa had already sacrificed so much for him that it pained him to speak up against her.
"You should rest first; Xiao Wen's injuries aren't stable yet. I must stay here..." Lin Yi didn't want to shut down her hopes completely; he genuinely didn't want to see such an outcome. If anyone were responsible for their current situation among the three of them, each could claim their own helplessness—someone would inevitably feel pain while two would feel guilt.
"No way! Darling, I'm staying with you!" Ying Sa insisted stubbornly like a defiant child when she said this.
Lin Yi felt both pained and tender-hearted as he watched her determination.
"Be good; you have our little baby inside you too! You need to rest well, okay?" He stepped closer and gently patted Ying Sa's back in a soothing manner as if comforting a child.
In that instant, Ying Sa finally couldn't hold back her tears any longer—they fell like pearls scattered from a broken string onto Lin Yi's chest.
"Alright, I'll wait for you!" In the end, Ying Sa stomped her foot in frustration before turning away to leave. But in that fleeting moment of departure, Lin Yi caught sight of her sorrowful expression; at that moment, it felt as though the air around him had been sucked dry—breathing became painfully difficult.
For ten whole minutes, Lin Yi stood frozen in place like a statue as if his very life force was about to cease until Reck approached him with an overwhelming presence that jolted him back into reality.
"Lin Yi! What's wrong?" Reck immediately noticed Lin Yi standing at the exit of the secret chamber looking dazed—not injured but completely lost in thought with his vigilance towards his surroundings diminished to zero.
The other members of Blood Sky Mercenary Group understood the situation and wisely refrained from disturbing him; however, Reck was unaware of this context but dared to provoke Lin Yi at such a moment.
"It's nothing; War God, are you feeling better?" Under Reck's stimulating aura, Lin Yi quickly regained his composure.
Reck seemed oblivious to Lin Yi's state as he shook his head and replied: "Not so fast; I've only stabilized my injuries for now—recovering back to peak condition won't be easy!"
"By the way, how is your sister-in-law? Is she alright?" As Reck walked and asked about Li Qiweng’s condition—he was aware of their relationship due to their earlier engagement ceremony which even someone like him had noticed.
As for Ying Sa? Reck regarded her merely as one of Lin Yi’s close friends since there had never been any news about them being married.
When Lin Yi risked his life to save Li Qiweng back then, Reck naturally believed she was his rightful partner.
"She has woken up; the Zombie Virus has been removed but she's lost all her power!" Without thinking much about explanations or details, Lin Yi simply stated Li Qiweng’s condition.
"That's good! The Zombie Virus is highly virulent and this energy infusion is from First Generation Zombies—removing the Zombie Virus is already quite remarkable," Reck smiled as he stepped into the secret chamber after obtaining Lin Yi’s consent before examining Li Qiweng again.
After several rounds of inspection with his previously cheerful demeanor now replaced by seriousness, Lin Yi noticed something was off and quickly asked: "War God? What’s wrong?"
"It's strange—I was worried your sister-in-law might still be under mental control but now I find no traces of such marks left behind. It seems that whoever wanted her evolution into a true First Generation Zombie has released their control over her because a puppet without thoughts cannot become a true powerhouse! However," Reck continued gravely as he detected another type of energy within her body—this energy appeared gentle yet unstable—it could strengthen itself at any moment and explode!
"That golden energy... explosive golden energy!" Upon hearing this description from Reck, Lin Yi immediately understood—it was precisely this energy that had obliterated Bull and Witch into fragments before—it had integrated into Li Qiweng’s body! If its owner wished for it to explode—it would!
"What golden energy?" Reck looked curiously at Lin Yi who was now visibly panicking.
"War God! Please isolate Xiao Wen from this space—I need to find someone immediately!" Without time for explanations or details with Reck anymore—Lin Yi vanished from the secret chamber in an instant.
The next moment found him in the bedroom where Ying Sa was also present.
"Daddy—" Upon seeing Lin Yi suddenly appear before her,Ying Sa's face lit up with joy thinking that he had finally accepted her; she rushed toward him like an excited child.
"No time! Ying Sa! Save Xiao Wen!" At this moment nothing else mattered; grabbing Ying Sa by both shoulders almost desperately—he shouted fiercely at her.
In that instant—the stubborn beauty blinked those star-like eyes filled with tears looking up at him; she finally couldn’t hold on anymore. She didn’t want to say anything—tears streamed down freely as she understood everything from his expression alone—her heart broke painfully even making breathing feel agonizing.
