For a long time, Antarctica has been a forbidden zone for humanity. However, with global warming, the glaciers of Antarctica are melting at an accelerated pace, revealing numerous rocky surfaces. Despite this, the survival conditions here remain extremely harsh and unsuitable for human habitation.
Yet now, traces of human activity are everywhere—various tents, metal shacks, and even houses made of ice blocks fill every corner of the landscape.
In such a harsh environment, not everyone can come here; those who do are the elite of this planet. But now they huddle in their narrow "territories," waiting for food to arrive.
When they first received news of the impending disaster, they almost abandoned everything and followed various means of transport to this barren land.
"There's a ship coming!"
Someone shouted, and suddenly countless people surged out from the makeshift shelters. Although they looked different from one another, they all shared a common trait: malnutrition and a lack of vitality.
Soon, the shore was crowded with people. Those at the back couldn't see what was happening in front but continued to push forward. This naturally drew a lot of curses from others; however, those at the back paid little attention to that. Compared to the harsh words of others, food was clearly more important.
"Do you think we still have hope of winning?" Will stood at the bow of the ship, watching the frantic crowd before turning to Ying Sa.
Ying Sa had already placed her supplies into the ship's dormitory, but when she came out and saw the chaotic scene on the shore, her brow furrowed.
Hearing Will's words, Ying Sa pursed her lips and said, "There is always a glimmer of hope. If we win in the future, it will still be thanks to them helping this planet regain its vitality."
"Right now, all combat personnel are on the front lines. They've already fought hard enough, yet they still have to worry about the survival of millions!"
Will clearly expressed his dissatisfaction with the situation; under continuous pressure in recent days, even he couldn't help but complain a bit.
"If we had believed Lin Yi earlier and actively sought to understand the truth instead of passively listening to what others told us was 'the truth,' we wouldn't have fallen into such dire straits!"
Ying Sa frowned slightly. However, she soon turned away after a brief twitch of her nostrils, leaving Will alone in the wind. Will had been leading the Resistance against the Zombie invasion on the European continent but had followed Ying Sa here after learning she was coming. He hadn’t expected her to be so cold towards him along the way.
Will had even actively helped Ying Sa search for Lin Yi's whereabouts before but found no news. Deep down, he felt discontent; for years Lin Yi had loomed over him like a massive shadow. Now that he finally learned about Lin Yi's Corpseification, he still hadn’t gained Ying Sa's favor. This young man who once thrived in Parisian high society was now baffled by what had gone wrong.
Antarctica has not been overrun by Zombies primarily because ordinary Zombies struggle to withstand such extreme cold. Even low-tier Zombies see their combat effectiveness greatly diminished in such frigid conditions. In the face of life and death, humanity's resilience is evidently stronger.
The fleet led by Ying Sa consists of over ten super cruise ships that have been converted for their journey. To defend against potential disruptions from Oceanic Undead and High-Level Zombies, they brought along a large number of high-end combat forces. However, since the first Zombie Crisis suffered devastating blows, the number of Oceanic Undead has significantly decreased and none have evolved beyond ten Star Level.
Now, facing the ten Star Level opponents, Ying Sa's strength was absolutely overwhelming. The greatest threat they needed to defend against were those High-Level Combat Power Zombies causing trouble. However, upon reaching their destination, they did not encounter any Zombies attacking, which relieved everyone.
For these High-Level Combat Power individuals, one group was responsible for escorting while the other handled the transportation of goods. Otherwise, relying on ordinary people would mean it would take an eternity to move the cargo. Of course, there were also many High-Level Combat Power guardians present, and even one expert surpassing the ten Star Level was secretly guarding the area! After the food was distributed, these individuals took charge of overseeing it and managing daily distributions.
Once everything was organized, Ying Sa led the fleet back home, and the speed of the empty ship increased significantly. However, compared to the increasingly tense front lines, Ying Sa wished she could give the entire fleet wings to fly straight to the battlefield.
"Captain, we have received a rescue order from the Australia War Zone. Should we go assist?" Ying Sa stood at the bow of the ship, feeling the sea breeze. At that moment, she resembled an iceberg; few dared to approach her.
Only Witerson II had gotten to know her relatively early. He held complex feelings toward this third Captain of the Blood Envoy Mercenary Corps.
The survival of the Blood Envoy Mercenary Corps truly depended on Ying Sa. Over two months ago, when she witnessed Lin Yi's Corpseification vanish before her eyes, she rushed to Lion City as fast as she could to find Lin Yi. However, none of the Blood Envoy Mercenary Corps members had seen Lin Yi. When Ying Sa revealed the truth about what happened, everyone became conscious of the impending crisis.
However, this time Aoling Er did not sense any danger and some remained skeptical. Fortunately, Wu Hao and others acted decisively and immediately led everyone to retreat to a deserted island.
At that time when Lin Yi disappeared, the Global Security Conference announced that Lin Yi was dead and labeled him a traitor to humanity and the most evil Zombie.
What followed surprised many people. The Global Security Conference began to promote defense plans vigorously. Logically speaking, since Lin Yi—the most evil Zombie—was dead, it should have been a time for a full counterattack; why were they instead retreating?
At that time, a rumor spread that high-ranking officials of the Global Security Conference had been controlled by Zombies and that Lin Yi had been hunted globally because he knew this secret. The reason for implementing defense plans was an attempt to domesticate human society for Zombie enslavement.
However, this news sounded too shocking at the time for most people to believe. The Global Security Conference had been trusted as the highest command during the Zombie Crisis. Moreover, this rumor was soon proven false; those who spread it were captured and admitted to fabricating information.
Naturally, people understood this situation; in their view, these individuals were merely fervent supporters of Lin Yi who acted out in extreme ways.
Subsequently, the defense plans progressed unusually smoothly. Globally, fortress construction began, transforming cities into Steel Fortresses that were difficult for outsiders to breach. Strangely enough, during this period, Zombies seemed to have evaporated from existence; they hardly ever "disturbed" humanity's defense plans.
In just half a month’s time, due to improvements in human combat power coupled with technological advancements, massive fortresses gleaming with metallic luster were completed one after another.
As soon as all fortresses were finished, a ban was issued: no one was allowed to leave the fortress without permission! The reason for this ban was naturally due to Zombies; officially it was stated that it aimed to prevent Zombies from becoming stronger by consuming human flesh and blood—hence ordinary people were not allowed outside!
This explanation was somewhat understandable; however, as time passed, even though there was ample space within the fortresses, some still did not want to stay inside.
No matter how they pleaded, they were told they could not leave. Until one day, a blood-soaked figure burst into a castle in New York State, revealing the truth: the castle was controlled by Zombies!
The people inside the castle recognized this bloodied individual; he was a former National Hero, so they believed his words. However, just as this National Hero finished speaking the truth, he instantly disintegrated into a pile of dust.
The crowd grew furious, demanding answers from their leaders, but none were given. People’s thoughts became uncontrollable; they began to suspect and noticed that the number of missing persons in the city was rising dramatically. It seemed that every midnight, piercing screams could be heard echoing through the streets.
With each passing moment, suspicion deepened and discontent became more evident. They started communicating in secret but soon discovered they could no longer reach friends in other cities; they had been completely isolated!
When the anger reached a boiling point, the people of the city finally erupted! What followed became known as Hell Week, as waves of Zombies suddenly flooded into the city!
These Zombies attacked anyone in sight, devouring them until not even bones remained! For an entire week, this city of millions was nearly consumed by Zombies, who also began to evolve.
Only a handful of survivors remained, hiding in the darkest corners, waiting for each passing second. Ultimately, this city was breached by the Resistance, who rescued the Survivors.
Those who had once rejoiced at Lin Yi's death finally accepted this long-delayed truth. However, the price they paid for it was far too great.
The remaining Survivors were sent directly to Antarctica, living in constant fear. Yet among them were individuals who recorded footage of the Zombies devouring humans; this footage became valuable propaganda for the Resistance. Unfortunately, the Steel Fortress controlled by the Zombies had formidable physical defenses and robust network security, making it nearly impossible for the Resistance to disseminate this information.
However, the truth began to spread; the resistance against the Zombies grew stronger. This was also a crucial reason why the Resistance could endure; the Zombies needed sufficient power to prevent those within the fortress from revolting.
