Habitually, Jimmy's hand had already reached for the Laser Gun at his waist, but in the next moment, he stopped, staring in shock at the newcomer, his eyes filled with disbelief.
"Captain..." Jimmy's throat bobbed as he spoke, his voice somewhat hoarse.
The newcomer was clad in a coarse robe, yet his face was clean and devoid of any signs of distress; it was Lin Yi himself. Just moments ago, his Psychic Power had enveloped the entire building, allowing him to almost teleport through layers of defenses directly into Jimmy's office.
As Lin Yi approached the office, under the control of his Psychic Power, he casually cut off the power to the surveillance cameras.
"Just call me Lin Yi. I'm no longer the Captain of any Mercenary group; I'm now a fugitive."
Lin Yi grinned, as if this were merely an unrelated matter, but the bitterness hidden deep in his eyes betrayed him; he felt utterly helpless inside.
"Captain, I know you're innocent!"
Unlike other members of the Blood Envoy Mercenary Corps, this former member who had left long ago firmly believed in Lin Yi's innocence.
"And why is that?" Lin Yi knew that Jimmy held significant power now and needed to assess whether Jimmy truly believed him.
"The number of Zombies you've killed is enough for us to trust you!" Jimmy said resolutely, though Lin Yi still sensed a hint of unease in him.
"But they think I have a greater conspiracy. I know more and more people believe I am the most evil Zombie!"
Lin Yi narrowed his eyes and spoke slowly. He did not use his Psychic Power to influence Jimmy; there was no need for that. What he needed was for more people to genuinely believe in him!
"Mr. Coffey once said that when lies are repeated often enough, they become truth. I can't understand why you would be a Zombie, so I can only conclude that you are not one!"
Jimmy shifted his somewhat overweight body and strolled over to a place where tea was kept, pouring a glass of plain water for Lin Yi.
“Captain, sit down. This is my territory. No one can enter without my permission!” Jimmy said confidently, plopping himself onto a leather sofa opposite his desk, as if he might crush it under his weight.
“I’m certainly not a Zombie, but right now I can’t prove that or make anyone believe I’m not,” Lin Yi replied with a half-smile, observing Jimmy. He noticed a photo of himself with Kofi hanging behind Jimmy’s desk.
Although Kofi had passed away several years ago, it was clear that Jimmy still regarded him as his true faith.
“Mr. Coffey will come back. I’ve been wondering what could possibly bring you here,” Jimmy said, taking a sip of water, seemingly skeptical about something.
“Is the old man also coming? I must be a good person?” Lin Yi asked, looking at Jimmy with an expressionless face.
Jimmy glanced up at Lin Yi, surprised. “Yes, Mr. Coffey, no matter what, you always uphold your principles as a person, so I believe you must be innocent.”
A chill ran through Lin Yi. Ultimately, Jimmy’s belief in Kofi’s judgment was what led him to conclude that Lin Yi was not a Zombie. Yet at that moment, Lin Yi couldn’t help but admire Kofi for having such charisma.
“What else did the old man tell you?”
“Do you remember the keepsake he gave you? Mr. Coffey told me about it. But what you actually got from it, I really don’t know,” Jimmy said, curious about what Kofi had shared with Lin Yi.
“He told me to be wary of those around me.”
“Mr. Coffey never speaks in riddles; his words must have some significance and likely contain more than just this information,” Jimmy said, his eyes darting around as he furrowed his brow.
Lin Yi felt a jolt in his heart as thoughts of the contents of the red cloth bag flashed through his mind. He knew that such matters couldn’t be casually revealed; otherwise, it would surely cause an uproar and throw society into chaos.
“Actually, I know this is a huge secret, but ultimately, it’s also a topic known by everyone,” Jimmy continued when he saw Lin Yi had nothing to say. “One of humanity's ultimate pursuits is the secret of immortality. However, even the universe will eventually face extinction; thus, true immortality doesn’t exist. But if there were a significant way to extend life, many people would likely take risks for it!”
"Everything comes at a cost, and the secret to immortality must be hidden within the Zombies. That's why there are so many traitors, including elites among humans!"
Lin Yi looked at the large man before him with disbelief. He felt it was necessary to reassess Jimmy; he should not just be a brute force Machine Gunner.
Regarding the relic Kofi had given Lin Yi, the most important part was not the video footage but rather a red cloth pouch contained within the box. However, this red pouch bore only a single phrase, and Lin Yi couldn't quite grasp its meaning.
"Australia has fallen back into the siege of the Zombie Army. You know that, right?" Lin Yi, despite being on the run, was still aware of the news from outside.
"Yes, and the intel I've received indicates that this Zombie crisis was caused by them!" A fierce glint flashed in Jimmy's eyes. The thought of that outcome filled him with unspoken anger.
"Exactly. Their highest commander betrayed humanity, which is why Australia has become a Zombie Sea!" Lin Yi's eyelids twitched; Albert's actions were truly unexpected.
"He is the traitor with identity number one! He is the true harbinger of hell, a real demon!" Jimmy's emotions surged, and even his eyes began to redden.
Lin Yi lifted his gaze to look at Jimmy. He was well aware of Albert's situation, but it seemed to be an expected turn of events now.
"Mr. Coffey told me one thing: beware of those number ones!"
Lin Yi hesitated for only a moment before revealing a long-buried secret. For the past two years, he had been pondering who these number ones referred to, but it had become quite clear now.
"Those? Is there more than one?"
Jimmy's eyes widened in astonishment as he stared at Lin Yi. Although he had guessed some possibilities in his mind, he still found it hard to accept this reality.
"Yes, it seems Mr. Coffey was right. The Zombie Crisis has erupted again, this time more suddenly. Without human traitors colluding from within and without, it would have been absolutely impossible!"
When I first saw Mr. Coffey's words, I wondered what the number one figure was. Now I understand. It refers to those who hold great power. Moreover, these individuals share a single identity number: number one!
However, it seems that the Zombie has only infiltrated a portion of the human power structure. The exact number of those who are numbered one is beyond our knowledge!
What is certain is that not all who bear the number one have betrayed humanity. At least Mr. Derman should not be among them.
In the end, Lin Yi hesitated, increasingly unsure of what kind of person Deman truly was.
"I think Mr. Coffey's real intention in asking me to help you was to assist you in finding the true mastermind behind this!" Jimmy, as the director of the Intelligence Agency, had already mentally prepared himself for the worst-case scenario.
So far, the Zombie had not made any larger-scale moves, but to truly resolve this issue, it was essential to identify the real puppet master.
"Have you come up with any results?" Lin Yi looked at Jimmy expectantly, feeling that this matter was not so simple.
Jimmy looked at Lin Yi, hesitating to speak.
Suddenly, Lin Yi furrowed his brow as an invisible force spread out instantly. He then swayed and found himself directly at the entrance.
"Someone's coming!"
Just when Lin Yi had relaxed a bit and failed to notice the situation here, he did not expect that someone would approach in such a short time.
In the next moment, Lin Yi suddenly felt a tightness around him as a powerful force of confinement enveloped him. Even attempting to move was an immense struggle!
Clearly, the other party had come prepared and even knew Lin Yi's destination!
"Since you're here, why sneak around? The former National Hero shouldn't be this kind of person. Why not face the public?"
At that moment, several powerful auras surged in, and Lin Yi felt several figures flash past him, surrounding him completely.
Although Lin Yi's body was restricted, his Psychic Power could still barely sense the surroundings. Among those figures, three were already at the Ten Star Level of combat power.
As for the other two, Lin Yi could hardly believe it—how could it be them!
"We were just ordinary people, and we just proved that there is no Zombie Virus in our bodies. There's no need for us to follow you to our deaths; that would go against the interests of all humanity!"
Before Lin Yi could respond, one of the stout young men spoke up first, though his eyes darted around nervously.
"Caesar, Lori, what you two are doing won't end well for me. But whether you're acting for the benefit of all humanity or for your own selfish interests, I think you know better than anyone!"
After a brief moment of shock, Lin Yi focused his gaze on a short and stout middle-aged man: "General Das, first of all, congratulations on becoming president! Of course, you should also be congratulated on advancing to Ten Star Level combat power!"
"Captain Lin, I don't want to personally deal with you after all the help you gave us back then. Just surrender; I believe the Global Security Conference will give you a fair trial!"
As Darth spoke these words, his entire body was tense, looking exceptionally nervous.
