The air in the African continent always seemed drier than elsewhere. Although Lin Yi wanted to sleep in, as soon as the sun peeked over the horizon with its round body, a wave of heat rushed in like ants drawn to sugar. At that moment, even Lin Yi had no right to enjoy the cooling system; after all, all energy here had to be allocated to the most critical areas.
This time, the entire Southern Defense Zone had pushed forward by thirty kilometers, and hundreds of thousands of enemies had been eliminated. It was truly a cause for celebration for the Addis Ababa Defense Zone.
Just as Lin Yi got out of bed, an official from the Defense Zone hurried in under the guidance of Li Qiweng.
"Mr. Lin Yi, Mr. Coffey has decided to hold a celebration banquet for your team and Captain Wang Zijun's Mercenary group within the area. We kindly ask you to attend," the official said, slightly bowing as he pulled a white invitation from his pocket. A bead of sweat formed on his forehead; Lin Yi was now a prominent figure in the Defense Zone, and this young official felt a bit nervous in his presence.
Lin Yi stood up and opened the invitation, which turned out to be handwritten. Although it was a celebration for the area, everyone in the Mercenary group was allowed to attend.
"No problem," Lin Yi nodded at the official. No merit, no reward; however, their contributions this time were significant. The Addis Ababa Defense Zone barely had any defensive capabilities, and recovering the Zombie-occupied areas was merely a distant dream. Thanks to the Mercenary Alliance's event and the strength of two major Mercenary groups, they not only eliminated traitors within the Defense Zone but also drove the Zombies back thirty kilometers outside of it—a tremendous achievement.
"This celebration banquet might not just be about eating; they may have more demands," Li Qiweng frowned after the official left.
Lin Yi sighed lightly; he understood Li Qiweng's concerns. Kofi's banquet would naturally involve more than just festivities, but even if there were tasks to assist with, Lin Yi was confident he could handle them well.
Since there was a banquet, Lin Yi needed to inform everyone. Most of the resting Mercenaries could only stay at their base during this time. After all, everyone who could be spared from within these Defense Zones had gone to build the Quarantine Wall, and everyone was busy.
Upon hearing about the banquet, everyone immediately became excited. They had long grown tired of eating bland rations.

At seven o'clock in the evening, the sun lingered in the west, reluctant to set. Lin Yi's base was not far from the banquet location—just a ten-minute walk—and they had gathered and were ready to depart.

The celebration banquet was held in a massive military camp next to the command center; this space had become available because many City Defense Force members had relocated to a new South Side defense area thirty kilometers away.
"Lin Yi, have you noticed that it's a bit too quiet here?" Wu Hao often acted as a guest-like presence within this Mercenary group, which was why he held no official position within it.
Hearing Wu Hao's words, Lin Yi instinctively released his Psychic Power. The entire military camp surrounded by various agencies' offices was eerily empty at that moment. Even more alarming was that Lin Yi detected several heavy weapons in those locations, all aimed directly at the military camp!
Was this time meant to wipe us out collectively? Lin Yi's heart raced uncontrollably. As the saying goes, when an enemy nation falls, its loyal subjects perish. However, the threat of Zombies was still significant, so it was unlikely that they were targeting Lin Yi. As long as Kofi's mind was intact, Lin Yi's Mercenary group posed no threat whatsoever!
Yet, with such a massive display of force, anyone would have doubts. If this was meant to deal with another faction, then that faction could only be Wang Zijun's Pacific Mercenary Corps!
Wang Zijun's sudden appearance was too abrupt. Even Lin Yi found himself questioning who she really was. In these chaotic times, Lin Yi sometimes struggled to believe in himself, so naturally, Wang Zijun raised even more questions. Although they were also Mercenaries and had achieved considerable feats, it was impossible for Wang Zijun to follow Lin Yi into the African Region simply because she knew him. Their efforts to come here must have been driven by some ulterior motive. Now that Kofi had seen through this plot, he decided to leverage Lin Yi's strength to eliminate it! It was even possible that the true instigator behind Paul's betrayal was Wang Zijun!
The Blood Envoy Mercenary Corps' base was not far from the military camp. Just as Lin Yi was deep in thought, they arrived at the entrance of the military camp.
To Lin Yi's surprise, waiting at the door to greet them was Kofi, who had always kept a low profile. Supporting him was Jimmy! Surrounding them were several reporters, and Lin Yi even spotted the beautiful Blonde Reporter. She caught his gaze and winked at him.
Witerson II felt a surge of anger upon seeing Jimmy supporting Kofi. He stepped forward, ready to confront Jimmy, but Lin Yi quickly pulled him back.
"Calm down. We have indeed wronged Jimmy over the past year. Find an opportunity to talk to him later; if he doesn't want to rejoin us, I won't force him!" Lin Yi whispered in Witerson II's ear. Jimmy's combat prowess had improved significantly; Lin Yi naturally hoped he would return but did not want to pressure someone unwilling to stay.
"Lin Yi, Captain, you have done great service for our country. Unfortunately, we are weak and impoverished now and cannot offer much in return. I hope you can continue to assist us for the sake of my old face," Kofi said as he trembled and took a few steps toward Lin Yi.
Lin Yi would not let Kofi approach him unassisted; he swiftly moved forward to meet Kofi halfway.
As Lin Yi grasped Kofi's outstretched hand, the reporters nearby began flashing their cameras wildly. However, perhaps under Kofi's instructions, they refrained from asking questions directed at either Lin Yi or Kofi.
At that moment, Wang Zijun's Pacific Mercenary Corps arrived in full force—over a thousand strong—creating quite an imposing spectacle. Yet this time Kofi appeared calm and merely gestured for Jimmy to go welcome them while he motioned for Lin Yi to walk alongside him.
Respecting Kofi as an elder, Lin Yi offered his arm for support.
"Jimmy is a good kid," Kofi remarked unexpectedly.
"Yes, he is brave; we have wronged him in the past," Lin Yi replied suddenly feeling a pang of sadness in his heart. Alone in a foreign land with no one to turn to, it was only natural for Jimmy to remain loyal under Kofi’s appreciation.
"He is simple-minded and does not have ulterior motives; that's why I trust him," Kofi continued.
This time Lin Yi remained silent as he pondered the implications of Kofi's words. Everyone knew that Jimmy was a trustworthy person. However, by saying this, Kofi was subtly indicating that there was someone here he did not trust. Aside from himself, that person could only be Wang Zijun.
"I wonder if Mr. Coffey invited us to this banquet for any other reason," Lin Yi directly shifted the topic to his own concerns.
"Other reasons? It's just about enjoying some good food, drinking some wine, watching beautiful ladies dance, and seeing the actors perform," Kofi squinted his eyes and hunched his back, waving his hand for each item he mentioned. The tightly pressed lips of Kofi parted into a smile, indicating his pleasant mood.
The simpler Kofi made it sound, the more worried Lin Yi felt. If they were indeed going to deal with Wang Zijun's Pacific Mercenary Corps this time, Lin Yi sensed it would be quite challenging. Although they had a slight advantage in strength, the two Vice Captains with Eight-Star Combat Power and Wang Zijun, who had yet to make a move, gave him an elusive feeling.
"Don't worry; your only job is to eat and drink. If I still need Captain Lin to help us solve problems this time, then I would be truly unworthy," Kofi said, looking at Lin Yi with murky eyes and revealing a meaningful smile.
Lin Yi couldn't help but chuckle inwardly. This kind of reassurance was clearly an indication that something was amiss. He wasn't foolish; he just felt a bit displeased that Kofi was keeping things hidden.
As they spoke, the two had already arrived at the banquet area of the military camp. The setup was quite simple; there were no servers passing around drinks, just long tables filled with food and a circle of chairs placed haphazardly for people to rest.
"It is a bit rudimentary; I hope you all don't mind. After all, everyone else is busy, so we could only provide a buffet. However, all the food here is fresh, and wild meat products dominate the selection. I hope you enjoy it."
Although Kofi was old, he insisted on standing in front of the microphone to speak personally. Lin Yi observed confidently that aside from Kofi, there was only Jimmy present; there wasn't an extra person in sight. However, he sensed that there were others nearby—likely the mysterious force he encountered earlier at Kofi's residence, presumably there to protect Kofi.
"The elder doesn't need to be polite; having food is already great," Wang Zijun said, clearly not upset that Kofi hadn't personally welcomed her as she took the lead in breaking the ice.
The others naturally followed suit, and Lin Yi couldn't help but feel his appetite whet by the enticing aroma wafting through the air.
