Paul died just like that, suddenly. At the moment when the explosive shockwave surged towards him, Lin Yi finally recalled what had happened just before: Slo had charged at Paul, clutching eight high-explosive grenades, and the two of them perished together in the blast.
Already severely injured, Lin Yi was unable to withstand the tremendous force of the explosion and was swept up onto the high wall of the garrison, landing in a disoriented heap. At that moment, Li Qiweng appeared before Lin Yi, reaching out with one hand to scoop him up into her arms.
Though Lin Yi felt a bit embarrassed, he thought that in the dark of night, no one would notice their movements. He buried his head against Li Qiweng's ample bosom, savoring her gentle fragrance.
"Even injured, you still take advantage," Li Qiweng scolded lightly. However, she knew that although Lin Yi was gravely hurt, his life was not in immediate danger.
"Ugh, I'm feeling dizzy. Wen, let's head back," Lin Yi said playfully, rubbing his head against her soft curves.
A flush crossed Li Qiweng's face as she glanced around nervously; fortunately, there was no one else around. She quickly set aside her embarrassment and began to retreat while holding Lin Yi.
Just then, a series of rapid footsteps approached. Li Qiweng paused in surprise and stopped.
"Jimmy?" Lin Yi's recovery was becoming increasingly rapid; after just a few breaths, he was able to steady himself. He felt awkward continuing to lean on Li Qiweng and signaled for her to let him down.
"Captain. Thank you for your help this time; I believe Mr. Coffey will be very grateful to you!" Jimmy directed his team to rush into the Iron Wolf Brigade's garrison. His tone towards Lin Yi felt more formal than their usual camaraderie.
"What do you plan to do with them?" Lin Yi asked, resting a hand on Li Qiweng's shoulder while pointing towards the garrison.
When he had entered to confront Paul and the others earlier, most of them hadn't posed a threat to him, so he believed they weren't deserving of death.
"Captain, you're injured. Vice Captain Li, you should take our Captain back for treatment; I'll handle this matter," Jimmy said with a change in expression as he pressed his earpiece. Clearly, someone was communicating with him.
"This..." Jimmy's tone suddenly became enthusiastic again, leaving Lin Yi somewhat confused.
Before Lin Yi could respond further, Jimmy vanished in an instant. Just that simple movement left Lin Yi astonished; such speed could only belong to someone with Five-Star Combat Power! Yet Lin Yi sensed that Jimmy's aura was only at Three-Star. How could he move so quickly?
"Every country has its own depth; it's fortunate for Jimmy to have made such progress," Li Qiweng remarked. She seemed less surprised than Lin Yi about a country's potential capabilities.
Li Qiweng's strength had been rapidly built up using the resources of an entire nation. Otherwise, it would have been impossible for her to leap from a Star Level to Six-Star in just over a year.
Suddenly, Lin Yi heard a roar, followed by the sound of a gunshot.
"All rebels, die!" It was Jimmy's voice, and Lin Yi's keen hearing allowed him to recognize it instantly.
Then came a flurry of rustling sounds and various curses, but clearly no one attempted to resist anymore. The Iron Wolf Brigade members had come to attend a celebration and were mostly armed only for self-defense; they stood no chance against the fully equipped Gendarmerie!
Soon, groups of people were being pushed out by the Gendarmerie with their hands bound behind their backs, forming a line as they stood there.
Five minutes later, the Gendarmerie had tied up all the soldiers and lined them up neatly. The once narrow road now felt crowded with thousands of people standing there.
When the Gendarmerie emerged, Lin Yi felt his eyelids twitching wildly. He quickly pulled Li Qiweng into a corner and concealed their presence.
Finally, Jimmy appeared, pushing several officers who looked like military personnel out in front of him. He shoved them into the crowd of the Iron Wolf Brigade. Lin Yi's Psychic Power far exceeded Jimmy's; even from a hundred meters away, he could clearly sense the despair and resentment on the faces of those officers.
"Are you ready?" Jimmy suddenly turned to a nearby officer wearing glasses.
"Rest assured, Special Envoy, One Water has never made a mistake!" The Glasses Officer's face showed a hint of cruelty and excitement, as if he was about to engage in something very pleasurable.
"Will it spread? There's still wind here," Jimmy said, extending his hand to feel the gentle night breeze.
The Glasses Officer stepped forward and replied, "You can rest easy, Special Envoy. We have long had countermeasures in place. The dosage this time has been meticulously calculated; there will be no errors!"
Jimmy did not respond further but waved his hand at all the Gendarmerie. Then he pulled out a mask from his backpack and put it directly over his face.
"What does he want to do?" Lin Yi controlled his breath, looking on in shock.
"Kill." When Li Qiweng said this, it seemed like the simplest thing in the world.
"How is that possible? Not all of these two thousand people can be Paul's men!" Lin Yi had killed before, and he had taken many lives, but those people were, in his eyes, deserving of death. However, these thousands of people before him did not seem to warrant such an end.
"Don't think about saving them. You need to understand that this country has more than one super warrior with Nine-Star Combat Power. If you dare to act recklessly, you will definitely be cut down by someone at Star Level!" Li Qiweng tightened his grip on Lin Yi's hand, fearing that he might impulsively rush out. After knowing Lin Yi for so many years, he understood his character well.
"Begin!" Before Lin Yi could respond, the Gendarmerie, fully masked, began to act under Jimmy's command.
Immediately, the Gendarmerie pulled out half-meter-long spray devices from their waists. With a series of hissing sounds, a light blue mist began to spray from the nozzles!
"What are you trying to do?" The Gendarmerie's movements were swift; before the bound soldiers could react to what was happening, the light blue mist had already begun to disperse.
"This is Devil's Water! The strongest death water that can kill with just a whiff!" Some of the officers standing in the center quickly recognized what this liquid was.
"They're going to kill us!"
"Quick, hold your breath!"
"Let's charge out together!"
As death approached, the Gendarmerie's intimidation factor diminished to zero. They still had a glimmer of hope if they resisted, but if they did not fight back, they would surely die!
However, the Gendarmerie had already surrounded them tightly and sprayed One Water around the captured soldiers of the Iron Wolf Brigade. How could they possibly break through this line of death?
"Ugh..." The first soldier to reach the light blue mist suddenly clutched his throat, his eyes rolling back as he collapsed to the ground, completely lifeless. The entire process lasted no more than two seconds.
Such scenes continued to unfold; the first batch of hundreds who rushed out didn't even have time to scream before they fell dead. In just about ten seconds, hundreds of people had quietly perished.
The remaining people were filled with terror, yet they felt powerless, as their abilities had not reached the level to instantly cross the several-meter-high spray zone. They could only slowly gather towards the center, trying to distance themselves from the deadly mist. But that was only temporary. Soon, some began to curse loudly, though their shouts sounded more like a final elegy for the "traitors" in the eyes of the Gendarmerie.
As expected, within just a minute, all two thousand soldiers of the Iron Wolf Brigade perished. Each face was marked by unwilling anger, and due to rage or fear, their expressions were twisted to the extreme, resembling true demons from hell.
The death of over two thousand people might have seemed like just a number to the onlookers, but for Lin Yi, it felt like a bone-chilling cold. The zombies had not yet been eradicated, yet his own people had already killed thousands of their own.
Lin Yi knew that this order came from Kofi, an elder he once admired greatly. However, at this moment, his heart was filled with mixed emotions; he couldn't find the words to describe how he felt. These people had indeed done wrong, but was it right to kill them so cruelly?
"Let's go," Li Qiweng said softly, noticing Lin Yi's troubled mood as he tugged at his fingers.
Just as the two prepared to quietly retreat, Jimmy's voice suddenly rang out: "Since you haven't left, I might as well explain things to you."
As soon as he finished speaking, a powerful force erupted from a single point, and in the next moment, Jimmy appeared right in front of them.
"How could you possibly find us?" Lin Yi exclaimed, disbelief etched on his face as he looked at Jimmy's smiling expression.
"To be on the safe side, Mr. Coffey specifically sent a Nine-Star Combat Power expert to monitor the situation closely. So naturally, it was that expert who informed me of your presence here."
Jimmy seemed relaxed, but Lin Yi's heart was in turmoil. If he had dared to help the Iron Wolf Brigade just now, that Nine-Star expert might have directly eliminated him.
"People with Nine-Star Combat Power generally don't act lightly; that's why Mr. Coffey asked Captain you to assist this time. In fact, Mr. Coffey has already investigated thoroughly—these people are all deserving of death," Jimmy explained upon seeing Lin Yi's grim expression.
