Lin Yi and Li Qiweng quietly stepped back to the side. At this moment, Lin Yi sensed that a crowd of hundreds was rushing toward them, clearly having discovered the situation here.
However, Lin Yi's speed in turning the tide of battle was astonishingly quick. The hundreds of soldiers felt like war gods descending from the palace, each exuding an overwhelming aura. They experienced a power they had never felt before. The Giant Zombie, which once appeared as a hellish demon in their eyes, now seemed much less terrifying. With good coordination, two soldiers could easily take down a Giant Zombie!
"Boom!" A soldier fired a grenade launcher at a cluster of Zombies. The ordinary Zombies had no chance to dodge, and the explosion instantly turned them into a pile of minced flesh.
"Roar——" The remaining Giant Zombies were unwilling to be suppressed by human soldiers. They let out a collective roar and formed a triangular formation, attempting to break through the soldiers' encirclement!
"Ridiculous!" One soldier immediately aimed his Laser Beam at the clustered Zombies and fired.
With a soft "thud," the laser easily pierced through the Zombie's body. However, this minor injury meant little to the Zombies.
But what would happen when hundreds of lasers were unleashed? The hundreds of soldiers who had fully recovered saw that these Giant Zombies were still trying to resist and collectively made way for an opening.
At that moment, dozens of ordinary Zombies and Giant Zombies had already "broken out" of the encirclement! Of course, this was all an illusion; the Zombies, lacking leadership, had no idea what the soldiers were planning. Under the command of one Major Commander, everyone aimed their Laser Guns at the fleeing Zombies and fired furiously!
Even in daylight, these dazzling beams were quite shocking. Hundreds of crimson Laser Beams descended like bloodthirsty demons from hell, incinerating all the clustered Zombies into charred remains.
The air was filled with the stench of burnt flesh. Those Zombies that had just been waving their arms and baring their teeth in an attempt to devour humans had now become true corpses riddled with wounds. Some of these Zombies still had heads that hadn't received fatal blows, so they weren't completely dead yet. However, their broken bodies could no longer support their movements; even if they still had life left in them, they could only crawl on the ground!
"Light it up!" The Major Commander ordered several men carrying fuel to spray igniters onto the Zombies, regardless of whether they still had any life left.
The flames shot up several meters high instantly, intensifying the acrid smell mixed with the unique stench of rotting flesh from the Zombies that filled the entire area. The remaining Zombies struggled in the Fire Sea but quickly turned into twisted charred corpses.
"What’s going on?" Just as the flames erupted, reinforcements finally arrived—Paul led another few hundred men toward them.
"Report to General: We just encountered an ambush by a squad of high-level combat power Zombies. Mr. Lin acted swiftly and eliminated these High-Level Combat Power Zombies in an instant; that's how we managed to survive," said a Major Officer as he saluted Paul. Though Paul appeared to be in his thirties, this Major's hair was already graying, suggesting he was around forty years old.
Paul frowned slightly and scanned his soldiers before shifting his gaze to Lin Yi, who had been hiding off to the side. His expression remained somewhat grim, but he forced a smile and nodded at Lin Yi: "If it weren't for Captain Lin's help this time, we would have surely fallen here!"
Lin Yi smiled awkwardly; his purpose for coming here wasn't entirely selfless. Helping out wasn't such a big deal after all.
Afterward, Major Commander continued to report to Paul in detail, specifying the casualty numbers and the situation regarding the use of Mechanical Armor. The frown that had been on Paul's face gradually faded, revealing a hint of a smile, though he still did not appear completely at ease.
Paul had been maintaining contact with the other teams through radio communication, and real-time surveillance from drones showed that each team was encountering various situations, with the resistance from the Zombies being particularly fierce. Fortunately, they did not face any large-scale attacks from High-Level Zombies afterward. The strongest they encountered were only Three-Star combatants, which Paul and a few others easily eliminated together.
The area Paul chose had only about ten thousand Zombies stationed there. This time, they launched a thunderous surprise attack and quickly wiped out several thousand Zombies in a short period. Essentially, each soldier managed to eliminate two Zombies, and aside from significant casualties when facing Five-Star Zombies, the overall losses for the Iron Wolf Brigade were kept below one hundred.
The testing period was set for two hours, during which nearly ten thousand Zombies were eliminated, marking it as a very successful trial. Although the Mechanical Armor did not elevate the soldiers' combat power to an overwhelming state, the results were still commendable. Throughout the entire process, there were almost no malfunctions with the Mechanical Armor. In fact, during confrontations with Giant Zombies, it even managed to withstand several powerful impacts.
When the time came to retreat, the Iron Wolf Brigade was suddenly ordered by Paul to slow their withdrawal.
Lin Yi knew well that staying too long in a Zombie-infested area was dangerous; Paul surely understood this too! They were only here to test the Mechanical Armor, not to eradicate the Zombies for real!
“Paul, do you have anything else you want to do?” Lin Yi politely asked, sensing something was off with Paul's demeanor.
“Now that we're here, we can't let these Zombies escape easily! There are still thousands left; let's finish them off together before heading back!” Paul's previously calm expression suddenly turned fierce, with blood-red veins appearing in his eyes.
“General, that's enough. We didn't come out here to exterminate Zombies!” It was the same forty-something Major who spoke up again; perhaps he was one of the few qualified to debate with this military star.
“Major! As soldiers, should we really show fear?” Paul shot a glare at the middle-aged officer and directly addressed his rank, making his point clear.
The Major's face turned awkward, but he eventually lowered his head and retreated into the ranks. Lin Yi and Li Qiweng exchanged glances, both sensing confusion in each other's eyes.
“Warriors! If you want to live better, follow me as we tread over these Zombie corpses!” With that, Paul maneuvered his Mechanical Armor southward. Lin Yi had just sensed energy fluctuations in that direction; there must be a considerable number of Zombies there!
Having just experienced a near-total victory, seeing their highest commander take the lead excited the soldiers immensely. They cheered loudly and followed suit in controlling their battle suits.
Two minutes later, nearly three thousand soldiers reached the southernmost part of the town, where they faced thousands of Zombies that matched their numbers. However, among this batch of Zombies, there were noticeably more Giant Zombies present; some even exhibited combat power reaching Four-Star levels!
It seemed normal for human soldiers to confront a Zombie Army; however, Lin Yi sensed something unusual. The number of High-Level Combat Powers among Zombies was not high compared to humans. Yet now so many exceeding Three-Star Combat Power appeared all at once—it felt strange! This was merely a town; Three-Star combatants should suffice for heavy lifting here, yet so many anomalies were occurring!
“Kill them!” Paul drew his long knife and charged forward first.
The soldiers, driven by Paul’s fervor, were now blinded by rage as they charged recklessly towards the horde of Zombies alongside their general. The air was filled with the sounds of battle cries and the clash of weapons.
Suddenly, Lin Yi's eyelids began to twitch uncontrollably! In the next moment, the Intelligent System emitted a long series of beeps.
"Sir! Nine-Star Combat Power!" the Intelligent System spoke urgently.
At that moment, Lin Yi could feel the overwhelming power emanating from the Zombie crowd; it was the kind of combat strength only a Nine-Star Level could possess! The Intelligent System had classified this crisis as a Level One threat, indicating that Lin Yi's chances of survival had dropped below fifty percent!
"With our entry into Nine-Star Combat Power, we at least won't be slaughtered by it!" Li Qiweng remained remarkably calm. Utilizing her War God Suit's analysis, she had already assessed the strength of their opponent.
Thanks to the enhancement from their War God Suits, both Lin Yi and Li Qiweng had reached Eight-Star Peak. Together, they could easily slay an Eight-Star Level Zombie! Facing this newly emerged Nine-Star Zombie would truly be a peak confrontation, leaving no room for error!
In the next moment, Lin Yi and Li Qiweng appeared right in front of Paul. The sudden appearance of Lin Yi and Li Qiweng left Paul with an odd expression on his face. When the Nine-Star Zombie unleashed its destructive aura, Paul's complexion turned pale as a ghost!
"Step back! We have no confidence against a Nine-Star Level combatant!" Lin Yi shouted without turning around.
"Heh heh, two ghosts think they can stop me? You’ll both pay with your lives today!" A sharp female voice rang out, sounding no older than sixteen or seventeen.
The speaker was none other than the Nine-Star Combat Power Zombie, and astonishingly, it was a female Zombie! Her withered yellow hair danced in the wind, and her face was lined with deep wrinkles resembling ravines. This Nine-Star Zombie looked less like a traditional Zombie and more like an aged Old Crone!
