"What? Death Road?" Everyone was puzzled by Aoling Er's words. It was too strange, especially since they were currently on the offensive; how could they possibly encounter an irreversible death?
"Reiko, what's going on?" Lin Yi raised an eyebrow. He knew about Aoling Er's ability, and even Augustus held her skills in high regard. This kind of foresight was much harder to comprehend than mere surface-level power.
"Boss, I have a really bad feeling. The whole sensing is filled with a Fire Sea, along with screams and charred limbs. If we keep going, there’s definitely a Death Road ahead," Aoling Er shook her head, fear evident in her eyes.
Those who understood the situation grasped Aoling Er's meaning, but if they didn't charge out now, that would truly be the Death Road!
At this moment, Raymond's mechanical team had basically charged outside the Quarantine Wall under Yevgeny's command. The zombies on both sides had been attacked to the point of fleeing like frightened dogs; it certainly didn’t look like a Death Road.
"Reiko senses a Fire Sea; could it be that the zombies are continuing their fire attack on us?" Jerry speculated, quickly considering a possibility.
Lin Yi's heart suddenly raced as he seemed to grasp something crucial. If it was a fire attack, then the greatest destructive force would naturally come from that collapsed fire trench that had swallowed nearly half of Yevgeny's team!
Thinking of this, Lin Yi's eyelids twitched violently. He looked at the mechanical team that had already disappeared into darkness outside and shouted loudly, "Come back..."
Before Lin Yi could finish his sentence, a series of violent explosions erupted not far away. Accompanied by the surging flames, even at over a hundred meters away, Lin Yi and the others felt an unbearable heat!
In an instant, the entire scene fell into dead silence. Apart from the distant explosions and faint screams, there was no other sound to be heard.
Lin Yi felt as if his heart was being gnawed upon by demons from hell; he felt pain deep in his bones. He had seen death before, but witnessing nearly ten thousand people being engulfed by the Fire Sea in an instant made it hard for even someone as strong as Lin Yi to control his emotions.
"Ah—"
"Oh my God—"
After a brief pause, everyone seemed to finally react. Many couldn't believe what they were seeing and rubbed their eyes repeatedly.
"Retreat!" Lin Yi struggled to calm himself. He had just sensed that the area surrounding them for three kilometers was densely packed with zombies. Among them were dozens of exceptionally powerful presences—at least all Three-Star combatants or above. Although Lin Yi was confident he could break through, he feared that only a few of the several hundred people would make it out alive! Furthermore, although he couldn't sense further away, judging by the scale of the zombies, Klinqi City must have already fallen into their encirclement!
Klinqi City had previously been a defensive fortress. Naturally, it contained various weapons and ammunition. Clearly, after the zombies first breached Klinqi City, they had plotted their next moves. They learned to use weapons and strategies and managed to wipe out the entire mechanical team in just over ten minutes; that was true terror!
Everyone struggled to control their emotions, knowing that chaos now would mean death. Fortunately, they were experienced individuals and quickly maneuvered the armored vehicles to retreat.
Klinqi City was divided into two parts, with the Quarantine Wall covering an area of over thirty kilometers. At the center stood a command center spanning one kilometer, and Lin Yi and his team decided to fall back immediately.
The convoy began to turn around, and at that moment, Raymond, who had just regained consciousness after fainting beside Lin Yi, finally woke up. Upon seeing the flames all around, his face filled with shock, especially when he heard that his mechanical squad might have been wiped out; he fainted again.
Lin Yi shook his head helplessly and ordered someone to take Raymond into the vehicle. Meanwhile, he used his Consciousness to sense the surroundings with his Psychic Power and discovered that there were still two people at the edge of the Fire Sea!
Could there still be survivors? Lin Yi squinted into the distance and noticed two indistinct figures, one of whom seemed to be carrying another person as they struggled toward him.
In an instant, Lin Yi vanished from his spot and reappeared next to the two figures.
"Charlie!" Lin Yi could hardly believe he was seeing Charlie again. Ever since he learned that Charlie was Aibolon’s son, he thought someone from such a family would never venture out into danger!
"Hey, Boss Lin, I'm back! And I brought someone with me!" Charlie grinned foolishly and gestured for Lin Yi to look at the person he was carrying.
At that moment, Lin Yi noticed that the person Charlie was carrying was dressed in military attire, with large patches of hair burned away and his head drooping. Lin Yi couldn't see clearly but could tell that the man's face was covered in blood.
"Hey, it's that officer! When I saw him earlier, he was crawling near the edge of the Fire Sea, but he's badly injured—probably from the recent explosion," Charlie explained as he noticed Lin Yi's puzzled expression.
"Yevgeny?" Lin Yi recognized a hint from the shattered glasses on the man's face. He reached out to check for breath and felt a faint pulse!
"Give him to me; you follow!" Saving a life was as crucial as saving oneself. With the Zombie Army lurking nearby, Lin Yi couldn't afford to hesitate any longer. He pulled Yevgeny close and vanished before Charlie's eyes.
Though frustrated, Charlie had no choice but to stomp his foot and run after him!
When everyone saw Lin Yi suddenly bringing in a bloodied person, they hurried over to assist with treatment. However, their medical supplies were limited; they could only administer a stimulant and bandage his wounds.
As for Charlie's arrival, no one asked too many questions; they quickly retreated toward the city center. Just moments ago, Witerson II had already detected a large number of Zombies approaching through surveillance cameras.
They were equipped with light armored vehicles, and within just a few minutes of rapid driving, they had all entered the heart of the defense zone. At that moment, the vast area was devoid of anyone else but them. It felt as if they had stepped into an endless, desolate universe; apart from themselves, there was nothing else around, and a sense of loneliness and fear lingered in everyone's hearts.
"If you want to survive, bring out your utmost abilities!" Lin Yi's tone was cold, lacking the casual friendliness he had shown before.
Everyone understood that this was a matter of life and death. They looked at Lin Yi, ready to follow his orders. At this moment, Lin Yi was their backbone; after all, he was the strongest person there.
Lin Yi had only about three hundred people under his command. Defending a one-kilometer area would be somewhat challenging, but fortunately, more than a third of them possessed Star-Level Combat Power, making it difficult for ordinary Zombies to mount an assault. Moreover, the walls of the central defense zone were sturdier than those of the outer Quarantine Wall, reinforced with steel plates twenty centimeters thick, making it a veritable fortress. However, if it weren't for a Super Zombie breaching their defenses and spreading the Zombie Virus, Klinqi City would not have fallen so easily.
This time, it was clear that the Zombies might be armed. Lin Yi knew he had to strategize carefully. Ultimately, he decided on a four-sided defense, assigning ten snipers to each line to directly eliminate Giant Zombies and even more powerful Star-Level Zombies! The biggest issue was their lack of weapons; Lin Yi calculated that only the Laser Guns could sustain them for an extended period. However, against such a large-scale Zombie threat, area-of-effect weapons would have been ideal, but they had very few left and no idea how long they could hold out.
In just a few minutes, Lin Yi quickly organized the teams, and each group soon found its designated defense area. Afterward, Lin Yi took a few non-combatants to search for weapons in the city center but found nothing. However, he felt that Charlie would take some action; yet Charlie remained inactive for a long time. Finally unable to hold back any longer, Lin Yi asked him what was going on and learned that Charlie had sneaked over and lost his special communicator. Furthermore, Aibolon had informed him that they could no longer rely on the Global Security Conference for rescue! As for why Charlie risked his life to come over, it was simply because he found it thrilling to be part of Lin Yi's team!
Lin Yi was speechless but knew he had to keep working. Aside from the rescue team formed by Aoling Er, Ouyang Shasha, and Lulu, everyone else was on the battlefield! Fortunately, Lin Yi's concern about food proved unfounded; Raymond and his group had retreated hastily without taking any supplies. Eight thousand people could sustain themselves for ten days; this group of three hundred would have enough food for nearly a year!
However, something strange happened next: a highly intelligent Zombie came forward to negotiate surrender! The terms were quite lenient—if Lin Yi and his team were willing to serve under the Zombies' command, they would naturally be spared. But no one would agree to such terms; Zombies were an alien race, and Lin Yi did not believe he would receive any favorable treatment like not killing prisoners after surrendering.
Soon after, nearly one hundred thousand Zombies surrounded them. Although they would attack occasionally, in such a confined space only thousands could coordinate an assault at once. A large-scale Divine Technique purification unleashed by Hai wiped out nearly ten thousand approaching Zombies in one go, significantly reducing their attacks.
The most brutal moment came when Renesmee unleashed her Frozen Domain, freezing tens of thousands of Zombies in place! Seizing this opportunity, Lin Yi charged into the frozen horde of Zombies and spent an entire day smashing through all those encased in ice!
