The consequences of underestimating the enemy are always dire, and many had initially failed to see the Zombie as a true threat. As a staff officer of the elite Armored Corps, he was confident in his Iron Torrent, believing those Zombies to be inferior even to ordinary flesh-and-blood beings. Yet now, he found himself ensnared in a trap laid by the very creatures he dismissed, and without any warning. 0

Caught off guard, Yevgeny nearly tumbled out of the command vehicle, but fortunately, the blood of the Fighting Nation still coursed through his veins; his ancestors had once been celebrated heroes on this land a century ago! In just a fleeting moment of distraction, Yevgeny regained his balance. However, he was already shaken by the sight before him—a chasm nearly two meters high and five meters wide, its length unknown. Could it truly have been dug by those Zombies, who only knew how to roar and howl? 0

Before Yevgeny could investigate further, a tremendous crash echoed around him. The armored cluster had charged forward too quickly; after the first row of armored vehicles fell into the trench, those behind had no time to brake and plowed in after them. It was a classic case of being defeated before even engaging—many armored soldiers were thrown from their vehicles, colliding with others, and it was clear they would not survive. 0

"Stop the vehicles!" Yevgeny shouted hoarsely as he watched more armored cars barreling towards them. But amidst the cacophony of battle, no one could hear his voice. 0

Suddenly, a familiar acrid scent filled the air, causing Yevgeny's nostrils to flare with the pulse of Consciousness. His face turned pale as he scrambled out of the vehicle's top hatch, shouting, "Fuel! Heart Fuel!" 0

As soon as he finished speaking, a wave of fire erupted. At that moment, soldiers aboard the armored vehicles were just beginning to escape. In the chaos, many fell from their vehicles directly into the trench below, where fuel was concentrated. 0

"Ah—" 0

"Devil!" 0

"Get away! Get away!" Many soldiers became engulfed in flames; everywhere they looked turned into a Fire Sea. At that moment, even the bravest soldier forgot about honor; their only thought was to extinguish the flames consuming them. 0

"Boom!" A soldier in the trench suddenly exploded, scattering limbs everywhere and splattering hot remnants onto those still alive—heat mingled with an icy touch of death. 0

For those soldiers, death might have been a release; however, for those who remained alive, they faced the naked threat of death! The retreating path was completely blocked by an onslaught of armored vehicles. They sought to escape but found that these once-reliable "steel lovers" had become their most formidable obstacles. 0

"Boom!" A more intense explosion followed as one of the outermost armored vehicles succumbed to fierce flames and detonated! The massive armored bomb created by fuel mixed with various munitions unleashed tremendous power, turning everything nearby into a vast crater. The armored vehicle next to the explosion was hurled into the air by the shockwave. 0

Flames instantly heated the air; those soldiers who had just been filled with bravado inside their vehicles now resembled lost souls fleeing from despair. They ran towards any spot that wasn't engulfed in fire. Yet many fell directly into the fiery trench or were struck down by rampaging armored beasts that left them as nothing more than burning figures. 0

Not every soldier retreated blindly; some quick-witted individuals found their true escape route in an instant. They leaped over the armored vehicles towards the opposite side of the Fire Sea, where there were no obstructing vehicles or crowds. 0

"Roar—Roar—" Just as several soldiers made their leap across, they were met with a chorus of Zombie growls nearby. But this growl carried an unsettling excitement; while there were no obstacles here, Zombies awaited their prey. 0

Before a few soldiers could react, they were seized by approaching Zombies, who viciously tore at their exposed skin. Before they even felt pain, they sensed their souls slipping away—the last remnants of Consciousness only registered the sound of their Combat Suit being shredded apart. 0

Yevgeny never expected the situation to deteriorate so rapidly. He was somewhat lucky; the armored vehicle had only fallen halfway into the trench. Just as the Fire Sea began to rise, Yevgeny grabbed the edge of the exit and propelled himself out. Although he appeared refined, his military training was commendable. 0

Despite Yevgeny's desperate attempts to direct the chaos, most of the armored vehicles continued to crash forward. If it weren't for his agility, he would have been knocked into the fire trench by the oncoming Zombies several times! 0

"Don't run!" Yevgeny shouted as he drew his long-unused pistol and fired a shot. However, the soldiers who had lost their will to fight paid no heed, frantically choosing their escape routes. 0

Suddenly, Yevgeny heard a few familiar roars. In an instant, a chill ran down his spine, and he turned around instinctively! 0

A fiery figure rushed toward him from afar. Yevgeny's eyes widened in shock as he realized a Giant Zombie was charging straight at him from the Fire Sea! 0

He wanted to move his feet, but instantly felt as if lead had filled his legs, rendering him immobile! 0

At that moment, Yevgeny sensed death closing in on him; he had never felt so close to death and so powerless! 0

The fierce wind blew stronger, and the searing flames approached ever closer. Yevgeny knew his fate would be grim. 0

One second... two seconds... three seconds. Just as he resigned himself to becoming a Zombie's meal, Yevgeny suddenly felt a tight grip around his waist. The next moment, he found himself lifted off the ground! 0

Having snatched back a life from the clutches of death, Yevgeny opened his eyes in panic and realized he was falling downward. In this place, there were no flames, no Zombies, and no crowded masses or armored vehicles! 0

With a thud, when his feet hit solid ground again, Yevgeny turned to look at the person standing behind him. 0

It was a young man with a hint of melancholy in his expression. His cheeks were thin, and even his eye sockets appeared slightly sunken—evidence of prolonged stress. 0

"You are..." After experiencing such a life-and-death moment, Yevgeny's mind felt muddled. He thought this younger man looked somewhat familiar but couldn't recall where he had seen him before. 0

"I am Lin Yi, a Mercenary who came with the SIS Director!" Lin Yi said with some annoyance. He had just risked everything to dash into the explosive-filled Fire Sea to rescue this guy, yet here he was not even recognizing him. 0

"Oh—I'm sorry; it's been too hectic these days." Yevgeny awkwardly scratched the back of his head, offering what he thought was a valid excuse. 0

Lin Yi was someone he hadn’t even bothered to look at before; naturally, he wouldn’t remember who he was. 0

"Hmph, I won't save you next time," Lin Yi secretly despised Yevgeny in his heart, but his face remained expressionless. The reason he saved Yevgeny was that as a Mercenary Captain, he couldn't command the remaining soldiers alone; someone needed to take charge and maintain order. 0

"I'm sorry, may I borrow your communicator?" Yevgeny saw the chaos not far away and felt his face flush with embarrassment. He needed to issue new orders to his team, but his communicator had been lost in the recent turmoil. 0

Lin Yi gestured for him to proceed, and Yevgeny didn't hesitate. He jumped into Lin Yi's command vehicle, picked up the communicator, and began issuing new commands. 0

In just a few seconds, many people hadn't even realized what was happening. In that brief moment, over half of the eighty armored vehicles under Yevgeny's command had already been lost. So, despite his reluctance, he had no choice but to give the order to retreat. 0

The front line at Fire Sea was still in disarray, with many soldiers engulfed in flames crying out as they tried to break free from the encirclement. However, after saving Yevgeny, Lin Yi did not take further action. He could have let Renesmee use Frozen Domain to rescue those people, but he hesitated. He feared that if Renesmee displayed such supernatural powers in front of them, too many would target her. Perhaps in the future, they Ability Users wouldn't die on the battlefield against Zombies but rather at the hands of those whose desires were insatiable. 0

However, one cannot be too rigid; Lin Yi still dispatched those with Star-Level Combat Power to handle the chaotic situation. For those soldiers who still had hope, Lin Yi couldn't bear to see them march toward death. 0

In just a few minutes, over twelve hundred soldiers had suffered more than half casualties. Tragically, many of those who died never even encountered a Zombie in their final moments. 0

After issuing the retreat order, Yevgeny finally brought a glimmer of hope to the disoriented soldiers. Yet Lin Yi still couldn't bear to watch more people die; he secretly used Psychic Power to control several armored vehicles that were about to collide. 0

"Roar!" At this moment, Zombies had chased after them. Even the dullest person understood that those fleeing Zombies were merely part of a premeditated escape! 0

"Form up and fire!" Lin Yi still commanded over twenty armored vehicles. Although there might still be survivors in Fire Sea, he couldn't concern himself with that anymore. The Zombies were closing in; those struggling within Fire Sea would only survive a few more minutes at best. 0
