A glint of cold light flashed in Sith's eyes, clearly displeased with Beatrice's obviously provocative words.
"Cough, cough, our enemy is the Zombie. I wonder how you could think we have ill intentions. Even if we did have ulterior motives, would we really resort to cannibalism like the Zombie?" Yevgeny was caught off guard by Beatrice's sudden retort, his brows trembling slightly as Consciousness quivered.
Sith patted Yevgeny's shoulder and said, "This operation is still quite troublesome, Major. After all, it's our first time participating in such a large-scale battle, and our opponent is the ferocious Zombie."
Yevgeny was a smart man and naturally wouldn't let such matters get him worked up, especially since he would personally be part of the mission.
The initial attack was scheduled for ten o'clock in the morning, so there wasn't much time left for Lin Yi and his team. However, their greatest advantage at the moment was their mechanized Attack; even when facing a large number of Zombies, they wouldn't be completely passive. Of course, this was assuming they didn't encounter a Giant Zombie; otherwise, they would find themselves in a stalemate. The decision to opt for a white Attack was also due to battlefield monitoring concerns; they certainly didn't want a sudden appearance of numerous Giant Zombies that could influence the battle.
Lin Yi's Mercenary group had only about three hundred members left, while the soldiers joining them numbered over twelve hundred. Beatrice had over five hundred in her own Mercenary group, so she brought in only a thousand new recruits. Both teams ended up with exactly fifteen hundred members each, tasked with flanking maneuvers.
Even Colonel Raymond, who was rumored to be involved, did not make an appearance. After Lin Yi and his team had a simple yet high-calorie breakfast, they began to assemble. This time, Lin Yi would not lead his team into battle personally; his three hundred men were placed at the back as reserves. Surprisingly, it was Yevgeny, the Major serving as an advisor, who took the lead at the front. Throughout the preparation, he had only given Lin Yi a few unexpected instructions without much else.
As soon as ten o'clock struck, the order to Attack was issued, and Lin Yi's group moved forward towards Klinqi City with the main force. The tracks and tires of the armored vehicles kicked up clouds of dust from the ground, obscuring even vehicles just five meters away. Lin Yi felt an unsettling sensation; it seemed as if this vehicle was not heading to eliminate Zombies but rather towards death.
The most bizarre sight was those Zombies staying behind the walls; they guarded their occupied territory like humans. The terror of Zombies lay not only in their numbers but also in their rapid evolution speed. As the commander of a team of over three hundred people, Lin Yi had some authority; at least he had obtained the latest reconnaissance video and knew that the Zombies inside the city were waiting for them.
After traveling just a few kilometers together, the main force began to split off; the assault troops attacked from the main road while Lin Yi's group attacked from both sides. However, there were no actual roads on either side; they simply forced their way through by crushing a path with their armored vehicles' tracks.
The ride was bumpy; sitting in the command vehicle made Lin Yi feel somewhat uneasy. This was his first real experience leading a mechanized unit on a combat mission. Fortunately, he had Witerson II with him; he had previously been the commander of an elite mechanized combat battalion and naturally had far more experience than others.
"Boss, no matter what happens this time, we must not let any Giant Zombies get close to the convoy; otherwise, it will be dangerous!" Witerson II's expression was more serious than ever as his thoughts seemed to drift back to that unforgettable bloody night.
Lin Yi nodded. His team might not be exceptionally powerful, but at least there were over ten combat personnel above Two-Star rank among them, so he didn't need to worry too much about Giant Zombies attacking them. The most important thing right now was not to get surrounded by large numbers of Zombies; that would lead to significant difficulties.
"All units prepare for battle!" Yevgeny's voice suddenly rang out from within the vehicle. He was the highest commander of this fifteen-hundred-strong team and was currently driving his command vehicle at the front. The entire armored cluster formed into a spearhead formation as they moved towards the left flank; their task was to encircle and launch supplementary attacks once the main battlefield erupted.
"Boom!" Just as Yevgeny's voice fell silent, a tremendous explosion echoed nearby; even Lin Yi felt the entire vehicle shake violently. A tingling sensation swept through him like electricity coursing through his body, making him uncomfortable enough to stomp his foot.
The attack had begun, but Lin Yi felt completely abandoned. Aside from understanding the situation on the battlefield, it seemed he could move freely. Perhaps Yevgeny merely viewed him as a supporting character; the achievements were something he had to pursue himself.
Lin Yi crawled out of the armored vehicle, and the entire convoy was moving at an extremely slow pace. To the right, Klinqi City was engulfed in flames, with artillery shells whistling through the air like meteors crashing down on the newly constructed Quarantine Wall. However, the Quarantine Wall was designed to defend against Giant Zombies, so it would not be easily destroyed by gunfire. Lin Yi had excellent eyesight; he could even see that the wall was empty except for the raging fires and debris flying from explosions.
Suddenly, Lin Yi's eye twitched as he spotted something familiar being launched from within the Quarantine Wall. He grabbed a nearby telescope and looked closer—it was a thicker iron rod than any he had seen before!
The iron rod was aimed directly at an armored vehicle outside the Quarantine Wall. Just as Lin Yi realized what was happening, the rod pierced through the roof of the armored vehicle. In the next moment, it completely penetrated into the vehicle's interior, and Lin Yi could even hear a scream coming from inside. He instinctively felt as if his heart had been struck.
"Boom!" When the iron rod fully embedded itself in the armored vehicle, it exploded instantly. The massive shockwave shook nearby vehicles, and soldiers who couldn't dodge in time were decapitated by searing metal shards, collapsing lifelessly to the ground.
In an instant, Lin Yi felt his eyelids twitch uncontrollably. After the first iron rod achieved its target, hundreds of rods of varying lengths shot out from within the Quarantine Wall, all aimed at the approaching armored vehicles!
"Fall back!" Lin Yi shouted instinctively from several kilometers away, almost certain that those vehicles that had been pierced would have no chance of survival.
However, his voice went unheard by those inside; instead, they were startled. Witerson II grabbed a periscope to observe. Upon seeing what was happening, his mouth dropped open in disbelief.
The once formidable armored group was pierced through by these hundreds of iron rods, and deafening explosions echoed across the area, mingled with faint cries of agony.
The Zombies had long been prepared; it was no wonder they felt fearless guarding this city. Meanwhile, Commander Raymond continued to regard them with disdain, believing they were merely a horde of bloodthirsty monsters!
Lin Yi felt anxious but couldn't reach out to Yevgeny; clearly, attacking now wasn't wise!
"Everyone stay calm; Commander Raymond will handle this!" Yevgeny reassured them, aware that the situation was deteriorating.
Perhaps to validate Yevgeny's words, just as Lin Yi prepared to return to the vehicle, dazzling sparks suddenly erupted behind the main assault group of armored vehicles. These sparks raced toward Main City with a deafening sonic boom!
"Boom!"
"Boom!"
The flying sparks were naturally the Ground-to-Ground Missiles, their power far exceeding that of ordinary shells. The once solid city walls quickly developed massive breaches, and the iron rods that had been continuously launched fell silent in the wake of the missile assault.
"Alright! We are ready to attack!" Seeing that the assault on the direction of Main City was proving effective, Yevgeny issued the command to attack.
The armored vehicles' tracks emitted a creaking sound, resembling giant centipedes swiftly crawling across the ground.
Once the steel tide was set in motion, it was unstoppable. As soon as Yevgeny gave the order, a hundred armored vehicles surged forward, almost instantly closing in on the outer perimeter of the left-wing Quarantine Wall. At that moment, not far from the armored vehicles, a large group of Zombies appeared. Strangely, they were running in the opposite direction and did not come to obstruct the Armored Convoy!
Yevgeny felt as if countless Medals of Honor were flying toward him; he knew that his future success was inevitably tied to how many Zombies he could kill. So even though he was a strategist this time, he actively volunteered to engage the enemy.
Without regard for the formation of the armored vehicles, Yevgeny commanded his vehicle to charge ahead.
"Kill them, and you will be heroes!" Yevgeny encouraged his soldiers, knowing that his personal combat ability was ultimately limited!
The already fervent soldiers were ignited with passion at this moment, pushing their armored vehicles to maximum speed. Suddenly, the once spacious wilderness felt somewhat cramped as dozens of armored vehicles lined up side by side, charging toward the fleeing Zombies!
Lin Yi increasingly sensed something was amiss; he knew that Zombies wouldn’t retreat without reason! But it was too late now; his twenty armored vehicles were unable to turn due to being caught up with others.
In the next moment, the dozen or so armored vehicles that had been charging at full force suddenly vanished from view, leaving only their rooftops and machine guns visible. Lin Yi was taken aback for a moment before realizing that those armored vehicles had all fallen into a row of pre-set pits!
