Although the mountaintop was not filled with the sounds of people, the atmosphere was tense and chaotic due to everyone's anxiety. However, Renesmee's voice clearly reached Lin Yi and the others.
At this moment, the number of Zombies they faced was not just in the hundreds or thousands. Lin Yi estimated that nearly the entire Milan Defense Zone had been overrun by Corpseification. “We can't let these Zombies get too arrogant; let me teach them a lesson!” Before Renesmee could act, Beatrice clapped her hands. A figure in black from the Golden Mercenary Corps stepped forward and handed Beatrice a square box with a red button on top.
Lin Yi frowned as he looked at the Zombies across from them. Aside from some methodically transporting wood or freshly pulled electrical wires to build bridges, the rest of the Zombies were roaring at them aggressively. Many Zombies stood on their abandoned vehicles, jumping around in a provocative manner.
“Alright, let them taste an appetizer!” Beatrice said as she pressed the red button in her hand.
With a sharp beep, an explosion suddenly erupted from the opposite peak! The massive shockwave sent everything nearby flying into the air. Although Lin Yi and his group were still several dozen meters away from the explosion point, debris rained down on them. However, those standing at the mountaintop were all skilled fighters and paid no heed to the threat of flying fragments.
In the next moment, like firecrackers from an ancient Eastern country, explosions rang out one after another from the peak down to its base. In an instant, it seemed as if a giant fire dragon had appeared in the upper half of the mountain, erupting into fierce flames.
The roars of Zombies were drowned out by the violent explosions as those once invincible Zombies were engulfed by roaring flames. Although Zombies did not fear pain, the intense fire still disrupted their movements. Many burning Zombies ran amok and even fell directly from the mountaintop. Thousands of flaming Zombies plummeted from nearly a thousand meters high, creating a scene reminiscent of a rain of blood.
At that moment when the explosion occurred, Lin Yi realized that it was indeed their abandoned vehicles that had exploded. However, he was unsure why they detonated since all movable items had already been taken away.
“This is our Golden Mercenary Corps' principle: if we can't take it with us, we won't leave it for our enemies. I just ordered them to place controllable micro explosives in all vehicle fuel tanks. That way, if those Zombies dare to come near, they'll certainly suffer!” Beatrice's eyes glinted coldly as flames flickered in her gaze.
Lin Yi silently admired Beatrice; he would never have thought of such details. As an experienced Mercenary, even facing death she would think ahead for a backup plan. What seemed simple at first glance was not easy at all during a crisis. This contingency plan instantly inflicted heavy casualties on the Zombies gathered on the opposite peak; Lin Yi estimated that at least fifty thousand Zombies perished in the Fire Sea or were blown into pieces.
At this moment, thick smoke billowed from across the peak; it was difficult to see what was happening there. Meanwhile, Renesmee wore an expression of astonishment; she hadn't expected that before she could make a move, someone had already slaughtered tens of thousands of Zombies in just a few minutes.
"This method is good, but as long as the Zombies don't gather in large numbers, it won't be very useful," Beatrice casually tossed aside the makeshift detonator. She appeared indifferent, yet her eyes were filled with a sense of satisfaction.
The biggest difference between humans and Zombies is that humans wield sharp weapons, while the Zombies only have simple iron rods and shields as their armaments. Although individual Zombies possess considerable combat strength, when they gather together, they can easily be taken down by powerful human weapons. The reason they dared to congregate this time was that the Intelligent Zombies among them assessed that Lin Yi and his group lacked strong weaponry. However, these Intelligent Zombies perhaps were not truly human, as they overlooked the fact that vehicles could also serve as explosives, posing a significant threat to them.
After a series of explosions, the Zombies suffered heavy casualties. Although the fire had diminished considerably, no new Zombies appeared at the mountaintop.
At that moment, Lin Yi suddenly heard a beep in his ear: "Lin Yi, the city defense won't let us out. What should we do?"
Lin Yi had only slept for a little over an hour, during which Wu Hao had been negotiating with the command center. They had received news of a fast aircraft but had not been granted permission to leave.
"Did you try using some means?" Lin Yi's meaning was clear; Wu Hao could read minds, and Douglas was no pushover either. A little intimidation might still work.
"This time we almost got caught. The City Defense Force has even deployed an Ability User team here. I nearly got controlled by one of their psychics!" Wu Hao's voice trembled slightly; it seemed that the Ability User team he encountered was definitely not weak.

"Turn on the searchlight to maximum!" Lin Yi called out loudly in frustration.
With a few clicks, the searchlights installed at the mountaintop instantly became blindingly bright; even those standing nearby felt as if they were standing atop a volcano.
The beams from the searchlights first illuminated the opposite mountaintop and then swept downward. Aside from thick smoke and charred Zombies, nothing else was discovered.
"Look to the sides!" Lin Yi commanded, feeling that the Zombies would not give up easily.
The Searchlight moved across both sides of the mountain. The opposing peak was massive, with one side facing Lin Yi and his group, while the other side connected to the Highway at its base and halfway up. As the Searchlight swept across, its beam suddenly illuminated the distance, shining on the junction between the opposite peak and the Highway.
"What are they doing? Quick, take a look!" Just as the beam hit near the Highway, Lin Yi noticed a horde of Giant Zombies desperately running toward them from the Highway, bypassing the mountain peak entirely.
As the beam continued to move, Lin Yi realized that there were already thousands of Giant Zombies gathered at the base of the opposite peak!
"They actually know how to launch a surprise attack in our blind spot!" Lin Yi gasped in shock. If they had only focused on the opposite peak without observing further afield, they might not have realized those Zombies were coming until it was too late!
"Notify Lashar and Roots to aim and attack!" Renesmee said, raising an eyebrow at this scene before turning to Tina.
"Okay, sister!" Tina replied, and in an instant, she vanished from sight, leaving everyone dumbfounded. Even Lin Yi could only sense with his powerful mental perception how Tina disappeared. She had instantly spread a pair of wings and darted toward the cliff's edge. Strangely, her wings were almost transparent!
Before anyone could comprehend what was happening, they heard a series of mechanical sounds coming from the edge of the cliff beneath them. The next moment, a booming Cannon Fire erupted, shaking the entire mountaintop as if it were about to collapse.
"What’s going on? There’s even a Grenade Launcher!" Beatrice exclaimed upon seeing the fired shells.
"This is our defense mechanism. Each layer has a distance of several meters between stone chambers, and that thickness is not just for show! Although what’s inside are old relics from decades ago, their lethality should not be underestimated." Renesmee tucked her windblown hair behind her ear, her clear face growing increasingly fierce.
