The surroundings suddenly fell into a dead silence, but the next moment, the roar of anger erupted once more. Lin Yi felt the intense aura of death surrounding him, sending a chill down his spine.
"A large wave of zombies is approaching you!" The voice of Big Ears echoed in Lin Yi's ears. The situation was critical, and he dared not linger for even a moment.
"Whoosh!"
"Whoosh!"
"Whoosh!" Lin Yi's figure transformed into a blur, vanishing into the vast Zombie Sea. The zombies that had gathered in the distance turned to look where Lin Yi had disappeared, then began to disperse in an orderly fashion.
Just moments ago, Lin Yi had already sprinted nearly three kilometers. This time, with all his strength and the support of Big Ears and the fully activated warning device, he skillfully navigated through the buildings overrun by zombies.
A minute later, Lin Yi had covered five kilometers. The surroundings had eerily descended into a stifling silence; it felt as if there were no living creatures at all. Just moments ago, during his short sprint, he could hear the excited roars of zombies, but now there was not a sound to be heard.
Oppressive, deathly oppression. Lin Yi's heart raced faster; he crouched low into a defensive stance, eyes fixed on his surroundings while extending his Psychic Power to observe.
Zombies were lifeless beings; if they remained motionless, even Lin Yi's formidable psychic abilities would be useless. The night vision goggles revealed only dilapidated houses and clothing fluttering in the wind.
"Big Ears, check if there's any movement around," Lin Yi swallowed hard; his throat felt dry.
"There’s no movement nearby, but there are many zombies surrounding you within about a hundred meters. It seems that there is indeed an Abomination in your area; otherwise, this phenomenon cannot be explained!" Ero quickly assessed the situation around Lin Yi.
"Captain Lin, leave the warning device behind and come back quickly!" Augustus's voice suddenly came through the earpiece, sounding very urgent.
"Why?" Lin Yi was taken aback. He had come to search for the Abomination, but now they wanted him to return without seeing anything? Wouldn't that mean all his efforts were in vain?
"It’s basically confirmed that the 'Spear of God' has been activated. In thirty seconds, we can locate you through the warning device and level that area!" Augustus's tone carried a hint of madness; perhaps he had long harbored deep hatred for those ghostly Abominations!
"How could this..." Just as Lin Yi was about to ask further, it suddenly dawned on him that he was merely a target for the experiment. Augustus had no expectation that he could eliminate the Abomination; he was only meant to confirm its location!
"I!" Lin Yi wanted to roar in anger when suddenly, a nearby building seemed to explode, debris flying violently in all directions.
"Silver Soul!" At that moment, as bricks and stones came hurtling toward him, Silver Soul sprang into action. With a clash of metal and stone, the incoming debris was cleaved away.
The wireless earpiece was filled with various shouts, but Lin Yi could no longer afford to pay attention to them. He had expected to see a gaunt Abomination, but what he faced now was a massive humanoid monster nearly five meters tall!
"Boss, run! That old guy is about to launch the missile!" Jerry's terrified voice reached him, snapping even the dazed Lin Yi back to reality.
"Roar!" Before Lin Yi could react, the giant humanoid monster suddenly lunged forward, hurling debris at him.
Having been through many battles, Lin Yi quickly steadied his breath and braced his waist. In the next moment, he began spinning rapidly, allowing the incoming bricks to whiz past him without landing a hit!
Suddenly, an urgent sound blared from the wrist alarm, signaling imminent danger. Lin Yi realized that the locator signal on the warning device was about to connect with the missile!
"Roar!" Just as Lin Yi momentarily froze, the Super Zombie lunged at him. Despite its massive size, it moved with surprising agility.
A nauseating stench overwhelmed him as he caught sight of the Super Zombie covered in crimson veins and gaping wounds. It looked like a pile of shredded flesh held together by sheer force, ready to fall apart at any moment yet brimming with power.
The alarm's beeping grew increasingly frantic. Gritting his teeth, Lin Yi ripped off the warning device from his wrist and hurled it into a dilapidated five-story building nearby. He knew that this type of locator worked by continuously emitting signals to guide the missile's trajectory; it was merely a basic positioning method with the flaw of being easily redirected. It seemed this warning device had been hastily assembled by the enemy; otherwise, it wouldn't have been so poorly constructed.
Before Lin Yi could catch his breath, the Super Zombie's enormous foot came crashing down. Even with Lin Yi's speed, evading it proved challenging.
In the next instant, Lin Yi gripped Silver Soul tightly and swung it toward the colossal foot that loomed just inches away!
"Clang! Clang!" The two sharp sounds intertwined, like a dull war drum being forcefully pierced by a blade.
Lin Yi was taken aback; this was something he had never expected. With the sharpness of Silver Soul, he could slice through iron plates, yet he couldn't harm a flesh-and-blood body. However, his strike did manage to deflect the massive hand that was coming toward him!
Taking advantage of the power of his dual blades, Lin Yi swiftly jumped to a safe spot.
"Roar!" The Super Zombie, having missed its attack, would not let Lin Yi escape easily. It swung its fist directly at him. Lin Yi saw the fist, as large as a barrel, coming at him and retreated two steps. In the next moment, he leaped and barely landed on the Super Zombie's arm.
Before the Super Zombie could react, Lin Yi pushed off with his feet and quickly climbed onto its shoulder! At this point, the Super Zombie had regained its senses and swung its free hand back toward Lin Yi's position.
Although Lin Yi was strong, he was smart enough not to clash head-on with the powerful Super Zombie!
"Hoo!" Lin Yi utilized his speed advantage and leaped into the air just as the giant fist was about to smash down on him!
"Thud!" He felt a gust of wind rush beneath him as the Super Zombie's punch struck where he had just been standing. The massive head of the Super Zombie tilted at an odd angle, and half of its jaw shattered into a mess of flesh and bone that fell to the ground.
The Super Zombie would not die from this blow; however, it was momentarily stunned by its own self-inflicted injury. As Lin Yi descended from mid-air, without a second thought, he thrust both Silver Souls directly into the massive head below him!
"Thud!" The sound of bones and flesh cracking echoed as Lin Yi used his downward momentum to spin his wrists several times. The Silver Souls twisted inside the Super Zombie's skull like a straw stirring unblended watermelon juice.
"Boom!" Lin Yi lightly landed on the ground and darted forward ten meters just before the Super Zombie collapsed.
With a muffled thud, the once-mighty Super Zombie was swiftly slain by Lin Yi in mere moments, and he emerged unscathed.
The night air turned cool as silence once again enveloped the surroundings.
"Clap, clap, clap!" Suddenly, a sound of applause echoed from a corner of the darkness. However, the applause was so strange that it resembled someone striking two dry sticks together, devoid of any life.
A chill ran down Lin Yi's spine. In this place where only he and the Zombies existed, if someone was clapping, it could only mean one thing: he was seeing ghosts. The only explanation was that the Abomination was indeed here; only the Abomination could perform such a human-like action.
The night vision goggles revealed a ghastly green world, prompting Lin Yi to instinctively remove the goggles perched on his ears. The surroundings instantly transformed into an inky black curtain, making it difficult to see anything else.
Suddenly, an orange-red light flickered into view. However, the glow was so faint that it seemed like it could extinguish at any moment.
Lin Yi felt compelled to move toward that direction; he wanted to see what it was. At this moment, there were no other sounds in his ears, suggesting that Big Ears and the others were no longer at the control panel, and the missiles that should have flown over had also vanished without a trace.
"You've gotten stronger after not seeing you for a few months, and I mean really stronger!" Just as Lin Yi approached the light, a thin figure suddenly appeared beneath its glow. It was then that Lin Yi realized that the orange light came from a large red candle.
What shocked Lin Yi even more was the person who spoke. No matter how he looked at it, in a place overrun by Zombies, how could there be another person? Moreover, from the tone of this "person," it seemed they recognized him!
It was bizarre; everything felt eerie! Lin Yi desperately wanted to see the true form of that frail figure, but unfortunately, aside from hearing that aged and hoarse voice, he couldn't discern any more details about the figure.
"You know me?" Lin Yi asked cautiously, feeling as though boundless power lay hidden within that thin silhouette.
"I've known you for a long time." The voice suddenly became ethereal, as if it were drifting like a dream.
