After Will left, Lin Yi gathered all the members of the Blood Envoy Mercenary Corps to announce the news. The explosive expansion of the team elicited mixed reactions; some saw it as a good thing, while many others fell into deep thought.
"Even if Lone Wolf is completely under our control and behaves like an ordinary person, the biggest issue is that he suddenly joined us. I believe the remaining members won't easily trust him. If they have other intentions, we would essentially be carrying a ticking time bomb beside us," Witerson II expressed his opinion first, unable to keep his thoughts to himself.
Lin Yi nodded, signaling the others to continue, as he himself was uncertain about how to proceed.
"As long as we maintain absolute military control, even if they know about Lone Wolf's situation, they won't have the guts to rebel!" Bai Ji, who had experienced the power of the Potential Gene Drug for the first time, was excited about the surge in information within the Mercenary Corps.
"Actually, just one is enough. As long as we provide them with enough benefits, even if they know, they will still follow us wholeheartedly!" Jerry, well-versed in human nature, spoke with conviction.
"In this situation, their joining us has both pros and cons. However, the benefits are obvious; within the entire Greater Paris Defense Zone, our strength could rank among the top five," Pachy stated, adhering to his principle of power above all else and showing interest in this new force.
"Since we're all hunting monsters, why can't we merge together?" Brice timidly asked. He and over a dozen other Vernons had already joined the Blood Envoy team. Although Lin Yi was powerful on his own, during times of crisis, he often found himself stretched thin and needed fresh blood injected into his team.
Wu Hao remained silent for a long time before speaking up: "I believe I have some understanding of human psychology. Their joining us isn't a problem; after all, there needs to be a process from thought to action. If I notice any intentions against us later on, I will certainly detect it. Lin Yi's personal strength is evident to everyone; once I identify a problem, Lin Yi will have enough time to intimidate them or even eliminate them entirely!"
Lin Yi looked around the somewhat crowded hall and signaled for everyone to quiet down: "The simplest way is for the minority to obey the majority. Raise your hand if you agree."
Wu Hao was the first to raise his hand, followed closely by Jerry and Bai Ji. Flower Cannon, Jiao Jiao, and others also raised their hands in agreement. Soon, more than half of those present expressed their support; even the newcomers agreed since they had just joined and psychologically accepted having new members. Moreover, those from Lone Wolf Mercenary Group were part of the team that had come to rescue them and would naturally not oppose Lin Yi.
Witerson II still disagreed, along with Ika and Jones. Lin Yi was somewhat surprised; it was clear he supported it, but why did these three who usually backed him disagree?
"Alright then, thirty-three votes in favor—passed!" Lin Yi raised his hand as well and did not continue discussing but directly announced that this matter was settled.
With Lone Wolf's situation arranged, Lin Yi needed to attend to another matter. Ever since he learned from Lone Wolf that Reiko and others had fallen into the hands of Darknight Vampire a few days ago, he had been searching for their whereabouts. However, Darknight Vampire seemed to have vanished from Greater Paris; despite spending thousands of Contribution Points searching throughout the city, he had not received any solid leads on them.
Now his only clue lay with Benito and Carlo—the two taken away by Mercenary Alliance last time. Only by finding them could he uncover Aoling Er's whereabouts. Thus, even though Lin Yi was reluctant to join Mercenary Alliance before this incident forced him to go there. However, given that the assassination order against him came from the alliance itself, going alone might mean going in without coming back.
Lin Yi consulted Pachy about this matter. Pachy finally informed him that Lion City had cooperation with London and suggested leveraging their strength; however, everything clearly needed approval from Li Xianzong. Since Pachy was essentially an envoy sent by Li Xianzong himself, matters regarding contact were left to him.
"If possible, could you help me ask Mr. Li to get in touch with Wen?" Lin Yi thought for a moment and looked at Pachy with pleading eyes.
Pachy sighed and ultimately said he would do his best. Lin Yi couldn't help but chuckle bitterly; sometimes he felt important but more often felt like a fool who couldn't accomplish anything.
After waiting for Pachy to leave, Lin Yi began planning how to integrate the original Lone Wolf Mercenary Group members into his team. To prevent any unexpected situations from arising, Lin Yi decided to divide the newly joined seven hundred-plus members into seven squads while dispersing his original thirty-five members among these squads. To ensure absolute control over these seven hundred people, Lin Yi decided that those who had followed him initially—over twenty individuals—would serve as captains and vice-captains of these seven squads; each squad would have one captain and two vice-captains.
After half a day, Pachy managed to get in touch with Lion City. In the end, Li Xianzong agreed to help Lin Yi and contacted a working group from the embassy in London to assist Lin Yi with related matters. As for the news about Li Qiweng, Li Xianzong mentioned that he would find an opportunity to inform Lin Yi, but now was not the right time.
Lin Yi disliked playing games, but for his future father-in-law, he had to endure everything. The arrangements from Li Xianzong were not easy to finalize immediately, so after some discussion, it was decided that Lin Yi would head to London.
...
One morning three days later, Will's message finally arrived. However, this time he would not be going himself; instead, he wanted Lin Yi to visit the military camp in person.
Will could bring a few people along since this group of Mercenaries was not to be underestimated. After some thought, Lin Yi decided to take a few individuals with abilities. In fact, Lone Wolf was also an Ability User and specialized in combat.
Lin Yi and his team drove to the city defense camp. This was his first visit to a military camp, and it was not as remote as he had imagined; it was located within a spacious wall in the old city area. However, Wu Hao explained that this place used to be a park but had been temporarily requisitioned during wartime to enhance the mobility of combat troops.
Inside the camp, tanks and armored vehicles were on standby, along with various artillery pieces, always ready for battle since combat could begin at any moment. The sudden fall of Mombasa served as a warning to everyone that complacency could lead to many casualties.
Will stood at the entrance of the military camp with a serious demeanor, waiting for Lin Yi and his team. However, from his expression, it was clear that things were not looking good.
"Is the situation really that dire?" Lin Yi asked as he got out of the car.
"Yes, these guys are indeed motivated by money; several have already shown clear signs of defiance!" Will replied somewhat dejectedly.
"Do you have any solutions?" Lin Yi knew that since they had called him over, they must have some way to handle it.
"For those Old Guys who refuse to comply, there’s only one way," Will said while making a throat-slashing gesture towards Lin Yi, making his meaning quite clear.
Lin Yi nodded and said, "That will suffice!"
Under Will's guidance, they arrived at a cement ground where quite a few people were already gathered. However, the atmosphere among them was rather unruly; many were casually smoking and the formation was chaotic. Surrounding them were dozens of soldiers in camouflage uniforms holding laser weapons, standing still with serious expressions.
Upon seeing newcomers arrive, members of the Lone Wolf Mercenary Group looked on with strong hostility. They naturally did not want to be controlled and lose their freedom, but under the absolute power of the military, they had no choice but to bow their heads.
Not far away, Lone Wolf approached alone, his eyes filled with malice and exuding an aura of primal bloodthirstiness. It felt just like when Lin Yi first saw Lone Wolf; if it weren't for Will assuring him that Lone Wolf had been completely subdued, he would never believe that this person before him was nothing more than a walking corpse.
The arrival of Lone Wolf instantly silenced the previously chaotic group; it became eerily quiet. Instead of greeting Lin Yi directly, Lone Wolf addressed the entire Mercenary group: "From now on, my Lone Wolf Mercenary Group will officially join Captain Lin Yi's Blood Envoy Mercenary Corps. All orders from Captain Lin are the highest form of command!"
The venue fell into a brief silence before quickly erupting into chaos.
“Why should we listen to this guy, Wolf Head? Who is he?” a Bearded Man from the Lone Wolf Mercenary Group shouted immediately.
“This guy hasn’t even grown a beard, and he thinks he can lead us?” As soon as the first person expressed dissent, a second voice quickly chimed in.
Soon, various voices of rebellion rose and fell, creating a cacophony that swept through the crowd like a flock of noisy birds screeching and flapping their wings.
“Those who defy will die!” Lone Wolf already held absolute authority within the Mercenary group, though he usually refrained from using heavy-handed tactics against his subordinates. However, this time he had been given orders and had no need to consider the feelings of those below him. For the military, a group of unruly Mercenaries could only be erased from this world!
“I refuse! You’d better give me a reason!” The first dissenting Bearded Man began shouting again.
Suddenly, his hand froze mid-air, and in the next moment, his entire head slid off his neck.
Dark red blood, still warm from the Bearded Man, gushed out from the severed artery in his neck. Those standing nearby were caught off guard, instantly splattered as if they had been painted by a red painter.
“Lone Wolf, you’re forcing the Brothers to rebel!” A loud voice cried out from the crowd. However, before that person could continue, they found themselves only able to emit a hoarse “Hehe” from their throat before completely losing Consciousness.
At that moment, everyone realized that it was Lone Wolf who had killed two Mercenaries in quick succession. He held a long knife with its tip pointed downwards, still dripping with blood.
“Is there anyone else who refuses?” Lone Wolf’s voice emerged from his lowered throat, devoid of emotion, sounding like a demon from hell.
