Things would not end so easily. Lin Yi knew he had to investigate the assassination attempt. He wasn't Superman; this time, others had underestimated his strength, but next time, it could be different. The thought of facing more attacks in the future made his head spin.
"By the way, I remember you got shot just now," Ying Sa suddenly turned around, swinging her arms.
Lin Yi was startled and quickly touched his shoulder where he had been hit. Although it still hurt, there was no blood at all.
"Hurry up and check what’s going on with my shoulder!" Lin Yi felt a surge of excitement; if there was really nothing wrong, wouldn’t he be invulnerable in the future?
Ying Sa exclaimed and quickly moved to Lin Yi's back, standing on her tiptoes to examine the bruise. Her height barely reached Lin Yi's chin, making her look delicate beside him.
Lin Yi felt a soft and gentle sensation glide across his back, sending tingles through him. But soon he heard Ying Sa say, "You’re really strange; getting shot and only having a bruise."
"Hehe, I've trained for this," Lin Yi replied, unsure how to explain; the story behind it was too complicated to clarify in a moment.
Ying Sa rolled her eyes at him from behind, though he couldn’t see it. Then she playfully slapped the bruised area on his shoulder, causing him to wince in pain.
Considering that things might change, Lin Yi and Ying Sa decided not to linger any longer and took the light rail back to their accommodation. However, before they reached their place, they saw a crowd of no less than twenty people gathered at the entrance, all looking fierce as if they were arguing about something.
Lin Yi frowned and quickly moved behind the crowd. He saw Pachy arguing with a tall man with brown hair who stood about six feet tall. Despite his brown hair, the man's eyes were as dark as an Asian person's. At that moment, he glared coldly at Pachy, ready to throw punches at any moment.
"I demand your Captain come out and face me; otherwise, I won’t hold back," the Brown-Haired Man said, locking eyes with Pachy. They were nearly the same height.
"I’ve already sent him out, and our Captain isn’t someone you can just meet whenever you want," Pachy replied with equal intensity.
"Hmph!" The Brown-Haired Man stepped closer, clearly preparing to barge in. Those who had come with him seemed ready to follow suit as they noticed his aggressive stance. Only Pachy and Bai were present; everyone else likely remained asleep.
Pachy refused to back down and stood firmly at the entrance. "Try stepping one more inch!"
The Brown-Haired Man snorted disdainfully and without hesitation swung his fist toward Pachy's head. Having been a captain before, Pachy reacted quickly and raised his fist like a cymbal to meet the incoming blow.
"Bang!" A dull sound of bones colliding echoed, causing both individuals to take a step back. However, Lin Yi noticed that if Pachy hadn't braced one foot against a stone by the door, he might have stumbled back even further.
The two sides had already clashed, and the others were eager to join in, shouting as they rushed toward Pachy's blockade.
"Do you really think no one is here for Blood Envoy?" Lin Yi's voice, controlled by his mental energy, instantly reached the ears of everyone present.
The crowd felt as if their eardrums had exploded, a wave of discomfort washing over them. Upon hearing the voice, everyone turned around in unison, their faces reflecting an uncontrollable anger.
"Lin Yi!" Pachy was the first to call out. Lin Yi nodded at him, signaling that he was back and there was no need to be afraid.
Those who had come with the Brown-Haired Man recognized the name immediately; it was the very person their leader was looking for. They glared at Lin Yi with eyes wide open, as if they had been injected with beast blood.
"Uncle Lin, why did you run so fast? You nearly exhausted me!" At that moment, a breathless and melodious female voice came from behind Lin Yi. It was none other than Ying Sa. Lin Yi had almost vanished in a few quick movements, and Ying Sa had only just caught up after a long chase.
Ying Sa immediately placed a hand on Lin Yi's shoulder, panting heavily while her cheeks flushed adorably.
"Sister!" Before Lin Yi could respond, the Brown-Haired Man stepped out from the crowd, looking displeased.
Upon hearing his voice, Ying Sa jumped as if she had seen a mouse in front of a cat. She quickly hid behind Lin Yi, appearing as if she wouldn't dare come out unless he left.
Seeing Ying Sa's reaction, the Brown-Haired Man raised an eyebrow in annoyance. At this moment, Pachy and Bai had already moved in front of Lin Yi; they knew how formidable he was and were naturally unafraid of any provocation from the Brown-Haired Man.
"Captain Lin, is it? I am Kaich, captain of the Invincible Mercenary Corps!" The Brown-Haired Man named Kaich stepped forward, his aura growing increasingly menacing.
"Invincible—Mercenary Corps—" Lin Yi couldn't help but repeat Kaich's words while emphasizing "Invincible," but ultimately he couldn't hold back his laughter.
"What are you laughing at? You brat, let our sister go!" shouted a burly bald man towering over two meters tall.
Lin Yi glanced at the other person, just about to retort when Ying Sa's voice came from behind, "That Kaich is my second brother, but I don't like him."
The bald man felt insulted when Lin Yi ignored him completely, but he still asked Kaich, "Captain, can I teach this kid a lesson?"
"No need. Anyone who dares to have their eyes on my sister, I will handle personally." Kaich twisted his neck and cracked his knuckles, the sharp sounds echoing clearly in the ears of everyone present.
"Ying Sa, your brother really loves to fight!" Lin Yi turned to Ying Sa, but his mental focus remained on Kaich's movements; he couldn't afford to be caught off guard.
"That's just how he is. He always likes to solve problems with violence, which is why I don't like him." Ying Sa pouted, her brows furrowed together, yet her expression was quite playful.
"Kid, let's have a match. If you win, I'll give you ten thousand Contribution Points. Of course, if you lose, you'll have to apologize to me in front of the alliance and promise not to have any ideas about my sister. How does that sound?" Kaich had already walked up to Lin Yi, his irritation growing as he looked at him.
"Second brother, if you bully me again, I'm telling Dad!" Ying Sa exclaimed as she peeked out from behind Lin Yi, trying to stop Kaich's actions.
Hearing Ying Sa's words only fueled Kaich's anger further. "No way! We're fighting today!"
"Since there's a big spender offering money, how could I refuse?" Lin Yi thought to himself. He remembered that the first time he earned Contribution Points, defeating a Giant Zombie only netted him ten thousand Contribution Points. For an ordinary person to kill such a Giant Zombie would require significant effort and sacrifice. Now here was a wager of ten thousand Contribution Points just for a simple match; that amount could cover the basic expenses for an average family of five for several years.
"You have no idea how formidable I am, Kaich. Do you really think earning that ten thousand Contribution Points is so easy?" Kaich was displeased by Lin Yi's calm demeanor.
"What’s the background?" Lin Yi turned and asked Bai beside him.
"The tenth-ranked Mercenary group in the Greater Paris region; their overall combat strength is extremely formidable and they are quite famous throughout Europe," Bai replied with a hint of envy. No matter whether it was the Mercenary group he had previously belonged to or the one he was currently part of, their overall strength couldn't compare to these top-tier Mercenary groups.
Lin Yi nodded thoughtfully. He recalled the two terrifying individuals from last night; their bizarre combat prowess was something he would find hard to forget.
"I accept your challenge." Lin Yi decided without further hesitation. He wasn't lacking in Contribution Points, but he felt frustrated inside; having someone to fight against would certainly be refreshing.
"Alright, let's head to the Testing Ground!" Kaich called out to his companions as they left together.
Lin Yi felt a bit confident in his abilities, and Pachy and the others were fully supportive of their Captain. As for Ying Sa, she had just been rescued by Lin Yi from over thirty armed men, so she was well aware of his combat prowess.
Having just woken up, Lin Yi was still unaware of many things, including the Assessment Platform, so Pachy took it upon himself to explain along the way.
The Testing Ground was a place for assessing strength; it served as a fighting arena where mercenary groups typically resolved their conflicts. The military knew that most of these mercenaries were troublemakers, and since the Testing Ground was established with their support, it provided a convenient outlet for these mercenaries to vent their frustrations. Therefore, they generally did not interfere in the mercenaries' fights.
Since they were already in the city, the Testing Ground was not far away, and they walked directly there. Fortunately, the Dueling Platform at the center of the Testing Ground was empty, saving them quite a bit of time.
Being tough men, they didn't waste time on pleasantries; both jumped onto the platform without hesitation. With little conversation exchanged, Kaich suddenly pushed off the ground and charged at Lin Yi like a cannonball.
Lin Yi initially intended to end the fight quickly, but he realized that in such a chaotic area, revealing too much of his strength could lead to unnecessary trouble.
"Ha!" As Kaich closed in, Lin Yi swung his fist to meet him. He believed that even if he couldn't knock his opponent down, at least he could hold his ground.
Suddenly, Lin Yi noticed a strange smile appearing on Kaich's face, and an unsettling feeling crept into his heart as if he had boarded a pirate ship.
