Rising Sun The darkness was slowly being driven away. Soft light shone on Paul's face, but the weariness and helplessness within him could not be dispelled by even this gentle glow. 0

Lin Yi sighed at the unpredictability of life. Not long ago, Paul had been full of vigor, but now he seemed like a pitiful wretch. 0

The two exchanged glances, and Paul managed a faint smile, though it was unclear what thoughts occupied his mind. In truth, Lin Yi was no less a pitiful figure; he couldn't even dare to imagine his own future. 0

"The general asked me to bring you protective helmets and Flame Guns. Once your Combat Suits are connected to the helmets, aside from a few extreme vents, you'll be basically isolated from the outside world. Given the size of those Corpse Worms, they definitely won't be able to get in. The protective performance of these Combat Suits is quite good; even the residual heat from your Flame Guns won't harm you," Paul said as he handed out helmets to Lin Yi's team from the truck. 0

Once everyone had skillfully connected their helmets to their Combat Suits, Paul signaled for them to get into the vehicle. Along the way, everyone familiarized themselves with their new equipment—the ultra-high-temperature flame throwers. Weapons were becoming increasingly intelligent, making them much easier to operate, and given their rich combat experience, they certainly wouldn't be completely lost. 0

The truck sped directly to the City Gate, driving straight through without stopping. Just as Lin Yi was about to ask something, six Big Trucks emerged one after another from the City Gate. The vehicles were close together, allowing Lin Yi to see that the drivers were all in military uniforms—clearly part of this operation alongside them. 0

This time, they did not deploy any Armed Helicopters, likely fearing that too much commotion would attract the attention of those Zombies, which could lead to being besieged again. Compared to their previous mission, Lin Yi and his team were treated quite differently; they didn't even know how far their destination was. 0

The convoy drove swiftly for about half an hour before coming to a halt with a screeching sound beside a cluttered swamp. The swamp wasn't very large—no more than a hundred meters wide—but its length seemed endless; it was a drying marshland. 0

Knowing they had arrived at their destination, Lin Yi adjusted his mindset and got out of the vehicle. Paul was already waiting for them outside, and soon the occupants of the other six trucks followed suit. 0

Paul gestured for Lin Yi and his team to follow him as he joined up with the others from the six trucks. Lin Yi glanced at the soldiers who had come with them; they all wore identical Combat Suits, and their helmets obscured their faces. Although he worried about an ambush from unknown Corpse Worms, he still felt reluctant to put on his helmet—it felt uncomfortable. 0

"Everyone, we have an important mission ahead of us. I hope you will all fulfill your responsibilities!" A burly man removed his helmet and spoke loudly upon seeing that Lin Yi and his team had arrived. A large scar marred his left cheek, likely caused by a bullet wound. Because of this, his expression appeared somewhat fierce as he spoke. 0

"Yes, sir!" A resounding chorus erupted from the eager soldiers, causing even the surface of the water to ripple slightly. 0

"Alright, real-time monitoring from Satellite will be transmitted to me on time, so there's no need to worry about safety issues. What we need to do now is burn all the bugs hidden in this swamp!" The man with the scar gestured for two soldiers to retrieve a large container from one of the trucks and pour it onto the edge of the swamp. 0

The red liquid flowed slowly from the container into the marshland. Even from a distance, Lin Yi could smell its foul odor—a stench reminiscent of a hellish sea of blood where countless demons sank into despair, making him feel nauseous. 0

"This is something developed by those folks at the Research Institute based on the characteristics of Corpse Worms. It's specifically designed to lure them in," Paul explained when he noticed Lin Yi's strange expression. They were now united by shared suffering; earlier conflicts seemed trivial in comparison. 0

Lin Yi rubbed his nose and asked with concern, "Will this attract those Zombies too?" Both Corpse Worms and Zombies were drawn to blood; if it could attract Corpse Worms, it was highly likely that Zombies would come as well. 0

"Those guys aren't stupid; they won't attract any Zombies," Paul replied with an incredulous look at Lin Yi, but his expression quickly turned serious again as he fell silent. 0

A buzzing sound grew louder as it approached—a dense swarm of buzzing that felt like an itch deep in one's heart, unbearable and maddening. 0

A dark mass swiftly flew toward the recently spilled Scarlet liquid. Lin Yi squinted at the familiar sight and signaled everyone to put on their helmets and prepare their Flame Guns. 0

The Corpse Worms crashed down like meteors onto the liquid, showing no regard for the people around them wielding Flame Guns. 0

"Start!" Bullet Scar Man waved his hand, and immediately, twenty soldiers who had been on standby charged forward, unleashing furious flames at the mass of Corpse Worms. 0

The blazing fire roared like twenty fire dragons, instantly striking those bloodthirsty Corpse Worms. 0

With a loud boom, thick smoke billowed up as the flames collided with the Corpse Worms, filling the entire swamp with a charred odor. 0

The faint popping sounds echoed continuously, reminiscent of cannon fire, as each Corpse Worm burst open under the intense heat of the Flame Guns. 0

Lin Yi's initially tense mood gradually relaxed; since they hadn't yet been called into action, this mission seemed to be going smoothly. 0

In less than a minute, all the Corpse Worms had been incinerated. However, Bullet Scar Man did not seem inclined to call off the operation just yet; he waved his hand again. Soon after, seven or eight soldiers emerged from the truck carrying four large barrels of the same substance and chose four locations to pour it out. 0

"Split into four groups and prepare your Flame Guns!" Bullet Scar Man shouted, urging everyone to get ready quickly. 0

Under Paul's guidance, Lin Yi and the others found their positions, preparing to incinerate any incoming Corpse Worms. 0

One minute... two minutes... three minutes... five minutes... Just as everyone was about to lose patience, suddenly, the ground was covered with Corpse Worms that surged forward like massive dark clouds. They seemed to have coordinated their attack, splitting into four parts as they rushed toward the nearly dried-up liquid. 0

This new wave of Corpse Worms was more than ten times greater than before. The enormous buzzing sound made everyone feel a wave of nausea. Fortunately, these Corpse Worms lacked intelligence and did not attack Lin Yi and his group. 0

Boom! Just as the Corpse Worms began desperately consuming the Scarlet liquid, over a hundred fire dragons erupted from the Flame Guns. 0

Each group had more than twenty people, and the flames quickly converged into a massive fire dragon. The black Corpse Worms were instantly engulfed by this torrent of fire; those thumb-sized creatures felt weightless as they were sucked into the flames and turned into mere fragments, disappearing forever. 0

Due to the overwhelming number of Corpse Worms this time, even though everyone increased their efforts, it still took several minutes to eradicate them all. 0

Though shaken by the experience, everyone felt relieved that they had managed to eliminate all the Corpse Worms. Lin Yi sincerely admired those in research who could develop such a Scarlet liquid that kept even these Corpse Worms trapped in a Fire Sea. 0

Although the mission was complete, Bullet Scar Man considered that there might still be some lingering Corpse Worms and poured out more baiting liquid. However, after waiting for a full ten minutes without any sign of movement, it seemed unlikely that any more Corpse Worms would come. Just when Lin Yi thought Bullet Scar Man was about to wrap things up and head back, he remained still without any indication of moving. 0

As Lin Yi prepared to ask Paul about it, he noticed someone hurriedly approach Bullet Scar Man and whisper urgently in his ear. The person’s face was filled with anxiety, but Bullet Scar Man seemed resolute as he simply shook his head and remained silent. 0

"What's going on, man?" Lin Yi felt something was off and tapped Paul on the shoulder. 0

"The captain wants to wait a bit longer, but the others want to leave. It's not safe out here," Paul replied, his face pale and indifferent. 0

Lin Yi could only shrug helplessly; after all, he was just there to help others and had no authority to command anyone. 0

Three minutes passed, and Bullet Scar Man seemed to have finally made up his mind, waving for everyone to leave. A collective sigh of relief swept through the group as they hurried to get into their vehicles. Although they felt stifled within the defensive perimeter, stepping outside revealed a desolate landscape stretching for miles. Apart from the ever-present threat of Zombies, they could only feel an overwhelming sense of loneliness. 0

The convoy moved significantly faster than when they had arrived, as if they were in a hurry. The violent bumps and the roar of the engines made Lin Yi feel increasingly agitated. 0

After about ten minutes of driving, a piercing screech of brakes suddenly pierced through everyone's hearts like a needle. The abrupt stop sent everyone in the vehicle tumbling forward. 0

"Can you even drive?" 0

"Are you trying to get us all killed?" Various curses erupted as the hot-tempered Jimmy suddenly pushed against his seat and leaped out of the vehicle. 0

Lin Yi worried that Jimmy would start an argument with someone outside and quickly followed him out. However, the moment Lin Yi stepped outside, he sensed something was wrong. Instead of cursing as expected, Jimmy stood frozen, his eyes wide like saucers, his face etched with terror. 0

At that moment, it felt as if the entire world had fallen silent. Following Jimmy's gaze, Lin Yi turned to look and stumbled backward, falling to the ground. 0
