"What are you doing!" Paul was about to take a closer look at the situation when Lin Yi suddenly snatched the Receiver from his hands without a word.
Lin Yi ignored Paul, fixated on the display screen in his hands, his eyes widening with each passing moment. As Paul noticed Lin Yi's distress, he gradually fell silent.
The images on the screen grew increasingly chaotic, accompanied by a flurry of flapping sounds, as if numerous birds were beating their wings around the Mechanical Bird. However, to everyone’s ears, the cacophony sounded like the call of hellish demons, unbearable and unsettling.
"What is all this? Why is it attacking the Mechanical Bird?" Paul's eyes were filled with shock; he could tell that something was wrong with the Mechanical Bird. The entire screen was shrouded in darkness, indicating that the camera had been obstructed.
"Have you all not noticed the problem?" Lin Yi's face turned pale, an ominous feeling creeping over him.
"What problem?" At that moment, the Doctor also sensed something was off. Why was the Mechanical Bird being attacked now when there had been no signs of trouble before?
"Doesn't your Intelligence Agency have any information regarding biological Corpseification?" Pachy exclaimed after watching the video, his heart racing. This scene bore a disturbing resemblance to memories from not long ago. This had always been his greatest concern; if his suspicions were true, it would spell unprecedented disaster.
"Mr. Pachy is joking. Our Intelligence Agency has plenty of data, but it seems our responsibility right now is to retrieve that data rather than discuss Corpseification," the Doctor said, momentarily taken aback but quickly regaining his composure and changing the subject.
"No! You are setting us up!" Lin Yi felt increasingly desolate as he realized he had once again placed his trust in others, bringing disaster upon his team.
Just then, the ground trembled more violently! A loud crash followed, and a massive Giant Zombie suddenly appeared before them.
"Oh crap! This mutation can't be this exaggerated!" Jimmy tightened his grip on his modified HQ4; this large Laser Gun suited someone of his size.
However, compared to the enormous Zombie before them, Jimmy—who was already taller than average—seemed like a toddler just learning to walk. The giant Zombie stood at least three meters tall, its body grotesquely decomposed and resembling a mass of blood clots. It oozed foul black blood continuously. The group felt as if they were in a demonic slaughterhouse, with a nauseating stench permeating the air filled with the metallic scent of blood.
The Super Zombie let out a pained roar, its arms—thicker than an adult's waist—pounding against its chest. Flesh and blood splattered onto everyone around it.
The sight of this mountain of flesh momentarily stunned them into silence; they forgot to shoot!
Yet in the face of life and death, some managed to react quickly. As the Super Zombie finished its roar and charged into the crowd, Lin Yi shouted:
"Fire!"
The piercing sound echoed in the ears of everyone present, snapping them out of their shock.
"Zing~"
"Zing~"
"Zing~," "Zing~," "Zing~"
The sound of the Laser Guns erupted instantly, beams of laser as thick as a thumb shot towards the Super Zombie.
Immediately, the smell of burnt flesh wafted into everyone's nostrils, and just the thought that it was human flesh made them frown.
However, for the massive body of the Super Zombie, those lasers striking it were like sewing needles, completely failing to hinder its movements.
"Fall back while shooting!" Lin Yi quickly adjusted the combat strategy, leading everyone to prepare to retreat a few steps to avoid getting too close to the Zombie and losing their chance to breathe.
"We can't fall back!" The doctor waved his arms desperately, but he was also shooting while following Lin Yi's team in retreat.
Paul seemed unwilling to believe that this Zombie's strength could withstand the collective laser barrage from the Government Forces, standing his ground. Although his soldiers' legs trembled slightly, they were soldiers at heart and held firm.
In an instant, after the first round of concentrated fire failed to kill the Super Zombie, Lin Yi chose to retreat several dozen meters, while Paul opted to hold his position. However, that brief moment was enough for the Super Zombie to close in; it practically leaped forward through its quivering mass of flesh right in front of Paul.
"Jimmy, Witerson II, you two shoot quickly!" Lin Yi raised his Laser Gun as well, but Jimmy and Witerson II were armed with upgraded HQ4s, their laser beams at least twice as thick as the standard ones!
"Bang~"
The muffled sound of "bang" echoed twice from the gun's muzzle, followed by two fiery red laser beams shooting towards the Super Zombie that was waving its hands, preparing to strike at Paul and the others.
With a powerful "zzzz," the upgraded HQ4 model burned two dark holes into the Super Zombie, causing it to momentarily halt its actions.
Suddenly! Before anyone could breathe a sigh of relief, the Zombie swung its hand again, delivering a fierce blow that sent one soldier flying. Accompanied by a scream, the soldier crashed into a tree trunk, blood trickling down the bark as he lay there, his life slipping away.
Paul was completely stunned by the overwhelming force of that strike. If it weren't for his teammates desperately pulling him back, he might have become the next victim.
"Quick, concentrate fire on its head!" At that moment, Lin Yi couldn't afford to think about anything else. He raised his gun and started shooting. However, his aim was still poor, so he could only urge his companions to target the Super Zombie's head.
Logically, the first reaction when facing a Zombie should be to shoot for the head. But when the Super Zombie appeared, everyone was caught off guard and instinctively fired without aiming at its head.
Now that Paul’s team was fully under threat from the Super Zombie, Lin Yi adjusted his stance and signaled for everyone to aim for the Zombie’s head.
At that moment, something strange happened. The Zombie, which they thought would only passively take hits, glanced at Lin Yi after hearing his command. Then, its previously upright body suddenly bent down, and in that instant, it lifted its blood-soaked foot and stomped down on the nearest soldier.
"Ah~" A piercing scream of despair echoed as it became evident that the soldier had been crushed beneath the Zombie's foot, his insides spilling out. Despite his grievous injuries, he fought to keep his eyes open, staring in horror and despair at his own entrails.
As the Super Zombie bent down, Lin Yi and his team fired their lasers. However, since they had all aimed for its head earlier, this round of shots collectively missed their target.
"Wen, this guy is tough. I don't know what else is coming after this. If things get too dangerous later on, you need to run at once!" Lin Yi suddenly seemed to remember something and whispered to Li Qiweng.
Li Qiweng remained silent but looked gravely at the Super Zombie, which was now rising again to continue its assault. She understood what Lin Yi was thinking; she had thought of it too. But she wouldn't give up easily until it was absolutely necessary.
"I'm talking to you!" Lin Yi snapped as he shook the dazed Li Qiweng.
"I'll be wherever you are!" Li Qiweng replied softly.
“Brother!” Before Lin Yi could continue his emotional speech, Paul's voice, filled with a cry, suddenly reached the ears of everyone present.
Lin Yi turned to follow the sound and saw a soldier being grabbed by the Super Zombie, its jaws opening wide as it forced the soldier's neck into its mouth filled with sharp fangs.
“Crack!” Everyone seemed to hear the sound of the soldier's neck breaking as blood sprayed onto the Zombie's face.
The fresh blood seemed to awaken the Bloodthirsty instinct within the Zombie. What had been a somewhat gentlemanly meal turned into a frenzied tearing at the soldier in its grasp. The sharp teeth pierced through the soldier's Combat Suit, revealing the flesh beneath. The Zombie opened its mouth wide and almost devoured half of the soldier's chest in one bite.
Satisfied, the Zombie chewed on a few mouthfuls of this fresh flesh before casually tossing the corpse aside.
“I will kill you!” Watching helplessly as his brother was eaten piece by piece, Paul was now almost out of control as he fired at the Super Zombie. However, it seemed that after receiving the blood and flesh, the Zombie became even more agile, and Paul's shots posed no obstacle to it.
“Flower, prepare for a surprise attack!” Lin Yi had no other good options and could only instruct Flower Cannon to look for an opportunity to strike.
“Everyone, shoot with me to stop it from advancing!” The people Lin Yi brought were all skilled fighters; although they were tense, they remained calm.
Under Lin Yi's command, as the Super Zombie attempted to move forward, everyone fired their Laser Guns in all directions—up, down, left, and right. This way, even if the Zombie tried to dodge, it would still be concentrated in one area. While this might not pose a lethal threat to the Super Zombie, it bought precious time for Paul and his group to distance themselves from it. Their earlier collapse had been due to the suddenness of the situation; they hadn’t reacted quickly enough to counterattack, leading to their current predicament.
Fortunately, Paul was an elite figure. After a brief moment of losing control over his emotions, he quickly took advantage of the situation to retreat towards Lin Yi and the others.
